Day 1 of NaNoWriMo

I come back from the dead to announce that I’m doing NaNoWriMo! (And hopefully this is not going to be the fist and last time I manage to hit the daily word count)

But I’m ready, I’m pumped, and I wrote something! I have no idea what the story is or where it is going, but I’m a pantser and this is just normal life.

7 Days of Productivity - 7/7!

I did it, got to day 7/7. But it has been a very difficult day.

I got to draft 2 of my Literature essay and managed to finally refine the structure of it. Now I just need to write it better. And then second essay.

Classes kept me busy but today is a difficult day. So forgive me if I don’t put the word count this time. I will update it tomorrow.

Early night today. I’m working 10 hours tomorrow.

Monday 24th October 2022

7 Days of Productivity - 6/7

Monday means a new week has started and it also means classes are on.

This morning I took some time to do my Spanish homework, but then the Spanish Workshop did not take place (there was a mix-up with the classrooms). Then I went to the Literature and the Gender and Sexuality lectures, and in between those two, I had the time to get a coffee with some friends.

Back home, I continued working on my Literature essay. Starting on it wasn't as easy as yesterday. Instead of working from 6pm to 8pm, I ended up working from 9pm onwards. I moved from draft zero to draft one and started cleaning it up, organising the topics and the paragraphs and trying to find the right flow. Unfortunately, that also means that I lost words overall. I did also start to collect some ideas for the other essay, but I only have scattered notes for the moment.

Unfortunately, it was a slow night and not as productive as I would have liked. But I tried and did something.

Literature and Society essay: -3.5 days word count: 1,260/1500 Gender, Sexuality and Culture essay: -3.5 days word count: 0/1000 ( still haven't started it, but I had the chance to think about it during today's lecture)

7 Days of Productivity - 4/7 and 5/7

Yesterday I didn't have the time to post so here's Saturday and Sunday in one go.

Saturday I had a slower day. I woke up quite late being that I was out the night before. And I didn't do anything productive during the morning in preparation to then go babysit for six hours in the afternoon. That meant the day went by without me being able to get any of my uni work done. But it's okay. Some days you have to prioritise resting and working.

Today I spent the morning organising this coming week. It's going to be a tough one between classes, work, essay writing, essay submissions, Spanish mini-exam and hockey training.

I am starting a countdown for my essays today and a word count for both of them as well, so that you can all see if I'm working or not.

I had hockey training in the early afternoon and after a needed shower, I sat down and worked on my Literature essay for about two hours. I tried not to feel the pressure of making everything perfect on the first go and forced myself to write everything that I could think of about the passage that I have to analyse. I'll then edit it and make it more focused once I have enough material to work on.

The evening writing session went really well. I started with already around 700 words on the page made up of notes and bullet points and I managed to get to nearly 1300 by the end of the night cleaning doing also some cleaning and light editing on the way. In doing so I finally found the focus for my essay and what element I want to concentrate on.

I might get some more writing done after I have dinner. But for now, that's it for today's update :)

7 Days of Productivity - 2/7

I wish I had been more productive today, but it was a difficult day with a difficult start. It took me forever to find the strength to get out of bed, but I eventually did and I dragged myself to the library. I did skip my Spanish workshop, unfortunately. I spent the day trying to come up with a plan for what to do next, and I decided to jump over to my second essay and get that started as well. It's for my Gender, Sexuality and Culture module and it is a Textual Analysis (still have to figure out what it is actually about, I have a good idea but I'm not sure it's exactly what I need to write). Anyways, that meant some reading, idea-gathering and very little writing.

I am still currently in the library, it's 20.40, and I'll try to work a bit more to at least get some words in the documents and make it easier to continue tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning 9am Literature tutorial! Too early for me to think. But I'll be able to run my idea for the thesis by my tutor so that I know if it's good and I can proceed or if I have to reframe my whole work whilst I'm still on time.

Today was a gloomy, rainy, chilly day, so pretty much much a normal day in Scotland. But jokes aside, I really like this type of weather in autumn. The leaves are turning auburn, the weather is perfect to refuge in the library and the rain acts like background noise for reading and writing. I really like October.

7 Days of Productivity - 1/7 (again) Hello hello hello!

This was not the greatest start. I have been not super productive since the last post but I've been experiencing a lot of tiredness and I'm not sure why. But here we go again, trying again to start the productivity spree that I need to get done. Wednesdays are my "day off" of the week, meaning that I don't have classes and I can instead concentrate on a mid-week catching-up.

I have now 9 days before I have to submit my first two essays of the year. Essay week is here. I have spent the entirety of the day in the uni's library trying to set up my practical criticism on 'The Duchess of Malfi'. I've been reading articles about it, trying to focus on the role women had to fulfil in the Jacobean era, and trying to get some inspiration from those.

I am enjoying the subject, but I haven't found my thesis yet, which is making my research a bit too scattered for my liking. I did manage to write a good 800 words of notes and I count that as a win for the day

I am still in the library as I'm writing this and I'll be for a bit more. I'll try to get some more work done before going back to my flat, relax and go to go to bed at a reasonable time to be up tomorrow for my 9am Spanish class.

7 Days of Productivity - 1/7

Today I'm starting my days of productivity challenge. I need all the encouragement so I'm starting with a very low number and once I will have completed this one, I'll up the goal.

This Monday started slow. I didn't manage to do much during the morning if not complete a reading for my Gender, Sexuality and Culture module and attend two workshops, one to help decide what career we might want to pursue after university and the other one was my the comunicación class for my intensive Spanish module.

After that, I had to take a break and head back to my flat to rest a little bit. I am coming down with a cold, so I felt the need to nap and eat something nice and warming.

In the afternoon I had the Gender, Sexuality and Culture lecture. This is a module that is labelled as humanities in general, so each week we'll explore the same topic through different lenses. This week is history, but we'll also have some lessons that concentrate on the literature aspects of it, philosophy, physiology and so on. It has been a very interesting module so far.

After this lecture, I had to go rest for a while again. But around 7pm, I convinced myself to go to the library and get some work done. Tomorrow we're going to have a screening for the 'Duchess of Malfi', so I really wanted to finish reading the play tonight. And so I did. I'm glad I convinced myself to be productive and go to the library. It's the second time that I go later in the evening and I manage to get a lot done, so I'm thinking of keeping this up. It looks like I'm more able to concentrate in the evening than during the day.

Overall, a good productive Monday :)

October 9th 2022 This first week was a little bit of a failure on the studyblr side of things. I didn't post anything because I didn't have the time to. Going back to in-person lessons has been more overwhelming than anticipated. So many people around, so much to do, so many things to pay attention to. I haven't found a balance yet and I hope it will happen soon. In the meantime, I've been spending a lot of time in the uni library trying to keep up with the weekly tasks, readings, notes, and so on. Saturday I took a day off, went to the aquarium in St Andrew and then around the town for a walk. It was a lovely day and it helped me to relax. (I also had some lovely company, so that helped as well ;) Today, Sunday, I started reading 'Metamorphosis' by Kafka, even though it's not one of the readings for my literature module. But I'm already halfway through 'The Duchess of Malfi', my actual reading, and it's a short one anyways. In the afternoon I had the first training with the uni hockey team. I'm so happy I joined this year. I missed this sport so much and I'm ready to play it again. Overall it was a positive week and from tomorrow I'm aiming to post daily. I think I'll start an X days of productivity challenge, maybe starting with 7 days and then upping the number little by little. Also, expect some sort of analysis for 'Metamorphosis' in the near future.

October 1st 2022

I’ll kick start my study(ish) blog with a not so study related post. But I’ve been back in uni for a week and I’m already exhausted. Classes are back in person and that is great, but it also mean that I now have to very quickly readjust to a faster paced, much busier pace for the first time since forever. I’m excited about this year, for my modules and for all the new experiences I’ll get.

Saturday was spent relaxing and recharging, catching up with a friend. Listening to music, buying some used vinyls just for the surprise of finding out what music is on them. With the start of October, I’m ready for the autumnal vibes to take over. Sweater weather and spooky season, here we go!
