With the pain of his aching form burning in his mind, Taka hadn’t paid any mind to the voices that had come from further down the hall. It was nothing more than muffled background noise to him, his emerald eyes focused on the ground beneath him, struggling with each step to keep himself going. But, as a figure came running up to him, the first thing that had come to mind was the rushing forms of the hound dogs as they came after him. Freezing in place, the young lion reeled back, his fur standing on end as he tightly shut his eyes, a frightened yowl leaving his jaws as he blindly swiped a paw at the figure.

His form trembled as he stood there, stiff and braced for whatever was to come next until the gentle call of his name had him peek at the blonde woman through a single eye. It wasn’t the hounds...It was Ella...

That single realization was all he had needed.

His rigid form slumped forward as his hindquarters shakily dropped back onto the ground. His eyes opened up to look at the woman as she cupped his face, her words meaning nothing to him in that moment before the young lion broke down.

Tears streamed down his cheeks, darkening his russet fur as Taka fumbled up into Ella’s lap like a small, frightened child.
