Holy crap I have that issue somewhere.  Tim can’t appear on camera as Robin, so first he just hides in the shadows and then producer-guy flicks a lit cigarette into them which apparently hits Robin who says, “Ouch.”  Producer-guy looks at the shadows then at Wonder Girl and says, “Did the all-encompassing shadow just say ouch?”

THEN, because the team needed Robin for a fight or something, he appears looking like some kind of Spider Jerusalem knock off, calling himself Mr. Sarcastic.

Once again, a neural net tries to name cats

Last year I trained a neural net to generate new names for kittens, by giving it a list of over 8,000 existing cat names to imitate. Starting from scratch, with zero knowledge of English or any context for the words and letter combinations it was trying out, it tried to predict what letters might be found in cat names, and in which order. Its names ranged from the strange to the completely nonsensical to the highly unfortunate (Retchion, Hurler, and Trickles were some of its suggestions). Without knowledge of English beyond its list of cat names, it didn’t know what letter combinations to avoid.

So I decided to revisit the cat-naming problem, this time using a neural net that had a lot more context. GPT-2, trained by OpenAI on a huge chunk of the internet, knows which words and letter combinations tend to be used together on the English-language internet. It also has (mostly) figured out which words and letter combinations to avoid, at least in some contexts (though it does tend to suddenly switch contexts, and then, yikes).

When I trained GPT-2 on the list of cat names using Max Woolf’s colab notebook, it still retained a lot of what it had learned from the rest of the internet. Gone were the strange names like “Tilly-Mapper” and “Balllucidoux” - it had a bunch of real words it could use instead. Here are some of the names it came up with - and the Morris Animal Refuge (who you may remember from that time they used neural net names for their guinea pigs) has given some of these names to some highly adoptable kittens.

My thought process:

Do not romance bears.  Well, I mean, you can romance bears all you want, just keep them to the gay subculture bears.  Do not romance non-gay subculture bears, because they have a tendency to eat you.  Well, I guess the other bears would probably eat you as well just in a very different way.  I wonder if there’s a lesbian version of bears?  Would it be like hard butch?  Is that a thing?  I mean, if we keep to standard nomenclature, I don’t think the generic misogynistic heteronomative media would really push any portrayal of a woman-presenting bear because *GASP PEARL CLUTCH* BODY HAIR?! and we can’t very well present that in a sexualized manner.  I wouldn’t even know how to start looking this up for myself.  I typed ‘Are there female bears?’ into Google and all I got back was a concerned look.

Had a dream, but it wasn't too funny or strange. I was a writer/creator for a new animated series on DC Universe called Batgirls Inc. It was about Oracle (Barbara Gordon) and Black Canary (Dinah Lance) acting as mentors for two new Batgirls: Spoiler (Stephanie Brown) and Orphan (Cassandra Cain).

Their first order of business is to deal with this strange new girl who is wearing a Batgirl outfit (Misfit; Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe). There was a lot of other stuff, mostly sitting in a writer's room hashing out plots. Black Alice was going to be the main antagonist for the first arc as Misfit's ex-girlfriend.

I may have to sit down and actually write this, and make a proposal. There seems to be a lot here.

So, here’s the thing.

I play a Vampire: The Masquerade LARP with a bunch of friends.  One of my friends had a bunch of buttons like this made up because his ex-girlfriend is trans and one of our friends is genderqueer (both of whom play at the same game as us), and there are other people who are non-binary, not to mention a few people who cross-play.

I just created a new character, who is a Nosferatu vampire.  If you’re unfamiliar, Nosferatu are HIDEOUSLY ugly.  Like, my character has no skin whatsoever.  So I wear jeans, tactical boots, a full face mask, non-latex latex gloves, and my Stephanie Brown as Nightwing hoodie.  He is covered from head to toe (at least, he is when it isn’t hot as sweaty donkey balls outside.  Safety first and all that.)  So there’s not a lot to see of a person in that.  So I asked if I could grab a button that said ‘He/Him/His’ for two reasons.  First, it will help people know how to address Jacob when speaking to him.  Second, I’m a cis-hetero male.  If I wear one of these buttons, that helps normalize it which is something I can use my privilege towards doing.

Yes, this is a little self-aggrandizing, but this is also my blog and I need to learn to toot my own horn occasionally.  It’s good for my bipolar.
