Blessed to have two amazing big sisters who helped raise with me with such love for their baby brother. This past week i got to spend some seriously special time with my eldest Meliza Rose and her family in Jackson Hole Wyoming and Flathead Lake Montana as we celebrated her 40th bday (damn time flies!). She is so dedicated to her little ones and it comes as no surprise since she's been there for me since day 1 and ALWAYS supports me in this life. That look of a country boy. Amazing how i can still relate so much to boyhood (as a country kid), though our upbringings are obviously so different there is quite a lot that is similar. Thinking back to a hike in the mountains of Lao Cai, Sapa. Met this young boy who sold water to hikers in between his time helping out his family farming their land irrigated by snowmelt and rain from the mountains. Picked up an old salvaged 2" x 10' board from @philadelphiasalvage yesterday, and a day later after hand sanding and installing brackets i've got a new custom made tv/record player stand. Special thanks to Alan for helping me rummage and find the winning piece and my dad for bouncing my design ideas off of. #tbt to the father son get away last month in Cape Cod, New York and the Hamptons. Father's Day is obviously this week and though I'm not going to get to spend it with him - he'll be on Grampa duty with my sister's kids in Wyoming - I'm thinking of this guy all week. Happy we had time to get away just us two and he was so supportive of me as I begin a new chapter professionally (officially today) back from travels. It means the world to have a legend in your corner. Love you pops and now planning the next trip we take 😏 (at Provincetown Harbor)

Back in Saigon, one last meal before I go. Vietnam has been such an astounding country to travel. So much of it has been surprising and I've found myself simply taking it in and bearing witness to life here. Its cities' streets and alleys perpetually winding into one another where parallel lives go on. Its countryside, mountains, sea, beaches, islands, parks, valleys and villages all tell their own story and invite you to take in their beautiful scenery. Its people dynamic, personalities of confidence and character, kindness and flare, sharp and present. Its language sooo complex and intricate with the subtle inflection changing meanings of words completely. It was quite an experience to be so foreign..... Life can be very hard here for many reasons but it says a lot to see 91 million making a life here..... Noticed that the phrase people say for "goodbye" here (hẹn gặp lại) really translates to mean "See you again" which is what many Vietnamese people say in english to you when you're saying bye... Life is good on #CatBaIsland. Arrived via boat and watched the sunset over the harbor. Morning cappuccino and fresh ginger tea #samebutdifferent before heading out to explore the island 🌴 which is a national park (at Cat Ba Island)

Yesterday was spent hiking through small roads and trails connecting villages in the Sapa valley among the mountains. This is very north/northwest Vietnam, close to China's southern border. The ancient Black Hmong, Red Dzao, Tay, Giáy, Thai and Phù Lá people have made this their home for centuries, planting gorgeous terraced farms in the valleys capturing snowmelt from the hills to water their crops each season. So much from yesterday to take in, i'll follow up with a more in depth post but this one shows a Black Hmong woman standing on the crest of a hill.. as I looked up I asked to take her picture.
