“1000-8 is.......992, 984, 976.”
Vriska counted in her head to retain consciousness as pure chaos unfolded around her. On each count of eight she would have preferred to tap, but one arm had gone completely numb and the other was flailing around in the air as she got dragged along hook line and sinker by the metal anchor. Oh, how ironic.
The skeleton which had been fruitlessly pursuing the blur until this point, finally found a task which could make its existence worry. Demons existed to devour and grow stronger, but since the blur existed out of his grasp he switched targets to the strongest thing in the radius. A great dragon of twilight seemed to warp the sky around him, his great wings leaving trails of orange and black circles in the sky where once the dark blue night had once peacefully filled the sky.
Surfing forward on his great ship, he crashed straight into the dragon. Wood and debris were shattered and sent in every direction. The shockwave finally dislodged the hanger on which had been struggling against the part of her coat that caught itself on the metal hook of the anger, the entire time, when the fabric suddenly snapped at the exact right moment and she was sent flying with the force.
Tumblr media
Vriska had always missed flying, but never in this specific form. She tumbled through the air only by the dumbest of luck missing the other objects that had been pulling into. Whatever that was that had ripped a hole in the sky. While she fell for what felt like forever, she eventually, and inevitably came into contact with something heavy.
The jarring collision finally shocked her out of her counting, and her babbling, as her left eye rolled backwards to see what she had run up against. A fang poked out frmo under her lips as she smirked ever so slightly.
“Fancy meeting you here,” She said, to the blurred man she had run into before the force tearing the sky apart threatened to tear them apart again, “How do we keep running into each other like this?”
All in Context
The man continued to leap and bound across platforms and stretches of rooftops that had been sent spiraling into the air, making a bit of a spiral pattern himself as he carried onward. He was nigh oblivious to the demon in pursuit of him, truly unable to care about anything that it might try to do. He could outmaneuver it easily enough, it was just a matter of making it to the finish line.
And to the finish line he continued to draw near, climbing up, up, up, almost to the point where the sheer force of wind at the gaping maw of the Singularity would be enough to rip him off of his feet. However at this point, he instead remained standing atop the twirling side of a skyscraper, arms folded as he tried to wait for an opportune time to aim a leap towards the center. A simple enough task really, he’d just have to make sure he didn’t get tangled in the outer event horizon, otherwise he’d be ripped to shreds.
And frankly, that was a process he didn’t intend to go through a second time.
And then…
Tumblr media
“…?”
Suddenly, entirely without any form of fanfare or warning, a large, gargantuan golden chain sliced through the sky, almost directly next to the Singularity. It bypassed the vortex entirely however, instead opting to plunge into the city below, cutting right through the loop at an angle and demolishing it entirely, sending the entire structure floating into the air as it become much more easy for the Singularity to pick it up this way.
The man in yellow seemed to look at the chain as if it had offended him deeply somehow, before eventually pointing a finger at the construct and saying, “Yyyouuuu aren’t supposed to be here yet.”
It was early. That was hardly a good sign.
“That must be my signal to make my exit,” he decided, speaking mostly to himself in that last breath as he aimed his gaze back towards the center of the Singularity. One chain was bad, but others would soon follow, and he’d rather not wait around to witness the negative effects it-
“SKROOOOOOOOOOOOO”
“Of course.”
In an explosion of glass, the figure of a large, winged reptilian creature burst forth from the skyscraper that the man had been standing on, and in a quick aerial twist, it turned around and spewed out a stream of fire, aimed right towards his form.
Tumblr media
Thinking quickly, the main held his arms out forward, spinning his arms at such speeds that they created twin tornadoes that cut through the flames like a hot knife through butter. However due to the lack of a solid platform, the force of such sent him flying backwards, spiraling out of control while clinging to his small chunk of glass as he searched for a new hunk of solid debris to land on.
This got out of hand much more quickly than he had anticipated.

“How did you do that? Did I rip it straight through your legs? No, flesh would tear, blood, bloody. Atoms, the basic unit of matter. In solid objects they are stacked, but there still exist spaces between. BETWEEN. Life and death, I learned that in biology class, it was raining. The night my world ended I stayed up late. Late, I was too late to dodge you- you went through me too same as with the string. String theory. Vibrations, bad vibes, bad break, broken arm........”
Vriska started out cohesively, but her words slowly dripped into babbling as she with fear looked down to the damage he had done. Blue now stained the floor, coursing fresh from the seams of her new cut. She felt the entire half of her shoulder coming undone and falling away from her as if the two parts of her body were on divergent paths.
Then the babbling cut off all at once. Her eyes widened in silence.
Tumblr media
“AaaaaaaahAaaaaaaahAaaaaaaahAaaaaaaahAaaaaaaahAaaaaaaahAaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaah!”
Vriska leaned back tilting herself at an unnatural angle and screamed, though whether it was fear or anger that cleared her throat was impossible to tell. Her left eye which had looked about to pop a vein all throughout the fight suddenly rolled back in her head to turn a color of black, as blood burst from her back. A gorey display, and perhaps impressive if you were into that sort of thing but it all seemed useless.
Until the skeleton demon which had been observing the fight until that moment, because his limbs had been bound by two achors wrapped around him in chains, broke the chains mimicking Vriska’s own movements. When leaned forward though, the anchors shot up into the air, chains in tow. They aimed for the blurred man, but when they missed they made contact instead with the surfaces he bounced off of.
Vriska began to stumble around mumbling still, “He is YVHV, his eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down his chest, the thatched matt, spread outside of his chise, spread softly, he attos, he polishes, cross legged makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed. He is YVHV.”
Vriska felt herself slipping away, but what really happened was she slipped on her own blood. At the exact moment the skeleton began his ascent, causing her to fall and collide with his leg, and be caught by her coat tangled by one of the anchors that fell from the side of his body. A case of good bad luck, as Vriska was pulled along now after the reverse flash.
“I’d love........” Vriska gathered the last remaining amount of her composure, “to be dragged along with you.”

The girl was handling the blows rather well, he had to admit. She was getting hit by most every single one of them, of course, but even after getting knocked down she would be quick to roll back up, and of course take the punishment immediately thereafter. It was a pathetic display pulled off in an impressive manner, and the man in yellow had to give her credit where credit was d-
Did she make him punch her dislocated limb back into place…?
Tumblr media
“Surprises at every turn,” he said aloud, before realizing that Vriska was making some kind of move. As she began to wind her arm upwards, the man’s glance snapped downwards, noting that he was still snagged on her weapon. Scoffing, the man’s body immediately began to vibrate violently, and as soon as Miss Serket pulled the string, it phased through him, as if he were a ghost. The moment it went through, his body solidified, and he shook his head while ‘tsk’ing loudly at her.
“You’re too used to dealing with those that can’t think eight steps ahead of you,” he said condescendingly, though there was an edge of praise in his tone too. “But I’m always one step ahead. Honestly, with as slow as you go, I’m probably the one eight steps ahead of you.
Now let’s see you pop this back into place.”
Suddenly, the man wound up his fist, only this time he caused it to vibrate at almost immeasurable levels, keeping his fingers straight as the arm crackled with that familiar red energy. Then, in a flash, the man zoomed forward, plunging his outstretched fingers into the depths of the shoulder that she had managed to make him fix. At least, that’s where he was aiming. Once he was done with that movement, he pulled back, glancing around them and noting that buildings were starting to be pulled up from their structures. Even the Loop itself was starting to creak a bit from the strain being caused by their scuffle.
Eyes darting back and forth, The Man in Yellow quickly glanced back at Vriska, before backing away from her slowly, letting out an echoed laugh as he did so.
“Well, I’d love to drag this out. But I’ve little time to work with, so I’ll just leave you here to contemplate the end of all you hold dear… if there is actually anything you hold dear, that is.”
On that note, the figure suddenly sprung off from the side of the structure they were standing on, plunging through the air before colliding with a rather hefty piece of concrete that was being pulled up into the Singularity. The moment it began to break apart, he jumped from it and onto another, his speed propelling him as he went.
He was actually running upwards by using the debris as running points to push him upwards further still.
It was impressive, if not a little too cocky of an action. But with the state of the buildings being pulled up, slowly but surely, he wouldn’t be running out of surfaces to sprint across any time soon.

Tumblr media
Screw five, she was going to last for eight minutes.
 “Games are fun, though.”
She whined petulantly Childlike. Though nobody could remain a child after what she had witnessed eight times over, and the blur must have realized that just like his polite conversation her pettiness was as much of an act. Which is why as he started to vibrate she tucked her hands into the back of her pockets and waited.
The first punch came and her body moved in the exact perfect position to intercept it. Eight seconds too early. Eight blows hit her in an eighth of a second, or at least that was how she counted it. All the while her body still carried through the moment of trying to block the first strike. One eye was fixed forward, but veins around her other eye turned blue and pulsated underneath her skin, and the eye seemed to move on it’s own to watch him. Faded blue, her iris in her left was markedly different from her right. At the final blow her body seemed to finally register what had happened, as it shooke wildly against the frame of the second in space time she seemed to occupy before force sent her skidding backwards on the arc.
Her hand she had reached out to block with, she now needed to drag her nails into the metal to stop herself. Then still he would be on her again. She stood up anyway.
“You’re right, as much as it pains me to-Ow!” It was hard to talk with a fist in your face, she stumbled backwards a few steps and wiped blue blood from her mouth, “Time is limited, almost-Ow-everything is.”
She gripped her dislocated shoulder, stepping backwards slightly as his next punch came in, and just her luck it connected in the exact right angle to pop the joint back in. “OW! But t I know one thing in this world that is infinite.” Regaining movement of her gaunletted arm at least temporarily, she whipped it backwards and tugged, pulling the string still connected to the blur’s ankle taut, hoping the sudden opposite force would be enough to trip him.
All in Context
Tumblr media
The punch caught the man off guard, however it didn’t really send him flying towards his destination either. At least not entirely. The suction from the Singularity had yet to reach any kind of proper momentum, and thus, instead of allowing him to ride the current upwards, he instead fell back down, landing flat on his back with a resounding ‘clang’.  It was easier dealing with other speedsters, or metahumans, but anyone mythically charged in any fashion tended to throw him off his game. He’d need to be wiser about how he went about this.
Pulling himself back up, he looked himself over, before letting out a bit of a laugh. Though… it wasn’t particularly joy filled.
“So, I’m guessing you’ve equated me to being your enemy then,” he stated rather plainly, as if he were disappointed in her. “A fair assessment, but I’ve no time for games. As I’ve come to find, time is not quite as limitless as one would like to believe. On the contrary, actually…
Sizing Vriska up, he shook his head, before allowing his body to crackle with some of the red energy that seemed to trail him as he ran. His body began to vibrate more ferociously as he took a bit of a stance, though it was less of a fighting stance and more like he was getting ready to run at any moment. The girl had made one fairly decent observation, at least. Any sort of fight could be used to his advantage to propel him up to the singularity when the moment was right. Even as he spoke, things were starting to build up, winds pulling upward at a steadily increasing rate.
“Time is a resource like any other. Like oil, gold, whatever analogy works best for you it hardly matters.” He gestured towards himself briefly, touching his hands to his chest. “And I suppose, then, that makes me a Miner for Time.”
Tumblr media
At that, the man rushed forward, delivering a few dozen jabs aimed right at her midsection. Even if she were to dodge or move, he would trail after her, giving her little breathing room. Pressure was the name of the game for the moment, and even if his focus on her would cause him to be distracted, he didn’t particularly care. All he had to do right now, in this moment, was drag things out.
All he needed was another five minutes, tops.

Tumblr media
As she hung suspended in the air, feeling less and less in control of her own fate, Vriska raised her tongue to the side of her lip to taste fresh blood. Blue blood. She tried to move the tips of her gauntlet covered fingers, but as her muscle tendons stretched she heard a distinctive popping, as her arm was already twisted in the wrong direction. She felt a cold stab of pain, then numbness.
Despite all these concurrent sensations though, with a one eyed glare she stared above at the now hooded man. Then the bloodied corners of her mouth stretched to reveal a razor toothed smile.
“Speaking of luck, actually.”
Tumblr media
Whether or not the man believed in any sort of higher power, there was no denying that events were connected by some sort of intricately connected chain of cause and effect. If that universal causality, just happened to tip in her favor at critical moments, one might call her chosen, either by causality itself or he who oversees it. Or in simpler terms, one might say she had all of the luck.
At that moment a series of events that had been building up since the beginning of their encounter fell into line now. Tayama, who had been reduced to gurgling out phonetics instead of speaking tried to run away, but tripped and fell on his face instead. The second he fell the red pills fell from his pocket and spilled out in front of the ground where Yamato Takeru was being pinned. His insect like jaw undid itself, and a tube much like a butterfly’s mouth came out and wrapped around the pills. His eyes took to glowing red, and his entire form melted into the color dragging the seven other demons with them in the same light.
This was demon fusion in a much rawer form, Yamato Takeru was actively devouring them. From the energy a new demon was birthed, it’s bones rattling, it looked like a pirate corpse that was left to rot for months. It was covered in a great blue overcoat, and kept tied to the ground through several chains. It roared though, and the chains shattered. Vriska made casual conversation the whole time.
“Cool line. But what’s with the talking, didn’t we just go over this?”
Vriska then braced herself, as the second the skeleton began rushing upwards to chase after both of them she caught it for a moment, then pushed off using the combined force to hurtle herself to the top of the arch. It looked like it was plotted, but really Vriska just took advantage of a coincidental circumstance.
For a moment, she seriously considered his retorical quesetion. Adjusting her glasses to look up at the singularity in the sky.
“I’m guessing, you want to go up there.”
She pointed upwards.
“Well then, why don’t I help you up?”
At that point she dropped all illusion of nonchalance and rushed forward with her sole remaining good hand, and swung for a quick uppercut.
All in Context
Luckily, she would not be left chasing after the man long, as he stopped as soon as he reached the top of the loop. At the top, a strange, almost harness sort of device was hooked up, seemingly being built right into the peak of the arch. At the center of the harness was some sort of glowing circular opening, and it seemed to be almost ready to burst or explode or… something.
It was definitely built to harness some of the energies from the loop.
Tumblr media
“Don’t you have a world to save?” the man asked, almost mockingly before pulling the hood overtop of his head. As soon as it was on, his body began to crackle with a bit of energy, but he clearly hadn’t fully tapped into… whatever abilities he might have had. He clearly wasn’t utilizing them all.
Tumblr media
“Though, lucky for us,” he continues, pulling out the device he had shown earlier before flipping the switch on it. “We won’t have to worry about you doing that any time soon.”
Immediately, the machine hooked to the Loop sparked to life, shooting a powerful beam into the sky without seeming to need any kind of charge. Despite the lack of build-up, the effects of the machine could be seen almost immediately. At the top of the beam, a large, growing spiral could be seen growing in the sky. The first few moments looked regular enough, like clouds spiraling in a wide circle in the sky. But soon enough, the true terrifying effects could be seen, as the spiral slowly seemed to take form, ripping a hole in the sky. No demons or anything fell from it, instead, the portal itself seemed to be consuming, though for now, it seemed to only feel like a slight draft was blowing upwards into the sky.
Turning back towards Vriska, the figure gave an over-exaggerated shrug.
“Sometimes, Miss Serket, the world just has to end before you can save it.”
At this, the figure zoomed forward in the blink of an eye, aiming a punch right for her jaw. All he needed to do now was bide his time until the force of the Singularity started to pull everything into the sky. Then he’d have a straight path leading right up into it, and he’d be able to guide his trajectory.
While he had the time, the man took up the harness, it’s primary use now completed. But, it still had it’s secondary function. A simple flick of a switch, and the glow of the chestpiece changed to red. He quickly put the harness overtop his suit, snapping it into place, allowing it’s energies to flow over him. This was hardly enough to get him anywhere, but it would serve it’s purposes for a quick scuffle and a trip out of the timeline.
“You have no idea what’s going on out there do you,” he asked, glancing off in the girl’s general direction. “Tsk, no, of course not.”

“Please, no story with me in it can ever lose it’s charm.”
Vriska said in brusque confidence, with a nonchalant tip of her shoulders. Even if she showed her surprise for a second, now it was replaced with something different empty curiosity? Something to repeat the boredom? Even if yellow dude was right in his analysis of the situation she would never admit it, that meant surrendering whatever control to it she had left.
“For some reason though, as much as I love getting praise, a compliment from you makes me sick to my stomach.”
She pondered it for a second. Putting her hands behind her back as she did so.
“Nevermind, I’ll take the complement anyway. Thank you, uh........quicksilver?”
She decided with a light hearted grin. Which was exactly the time when everything went to shit. Tayama while stunned, and handling the chaotic new development grasped desperately as the last bits of control  fell out of his fingertips. He threw his pills into the air and called forward.
“COME, YAMATO TAKERU!”
A guardian of the earth erupted from the ground, dressed in buglike armor, cracking the earth as he stood up at full height. At that exact moment the yellow blur took off again, Vriska’s right eye followed him while the left looked on confused giving her a cross eyed expression. Left with few options Vriska threw her dice, having to deal with two objectives at the same time. The dice fell in a random assortment of numbers as seven faceless demons, with growing red eyes that looked more like dark masses than regular legends brought to life. They grabbed the great eyed man, and pinned him back to the ground.
There were only seven demons present though, and seven dice on the ground. The eighth had already been cast before this, landing on a perfect ‘8′. The demon however had hidden in her shadow, and extended out to the man in yellow wrapping itself around his ankle while he stopped to make small talk. As he climbed into the air, Vriska was jerked behind him.
Tumblr media
She had to let go of her dice, the string wrapped itself around the metal of her gauntlet and the force of it crushed the metal, sending sparks flying from malfunction and friction. Still, the line did not break, as she pulled herself closer through sheer determination through whatever it was they were traveling through, the speedforce, the dimmensional rift that was about to open. When she was close enough she opened her mouth to talk, even if she was moving faster than the speed of light.
“You really should have known better than the monologue, that’s like basic villain.” She said, then ignoring her own voice she began to monologue, “That’s spider thread from Arachne herself. Spider thread has a basic configuration that makes it the most tensile material for its size, try and snap it now.”
All in Context
Tumblr media
The man looked over towards Vriska, a smile playing at the corner of his mouth before stomping his foot down on the switch, destroying it.
“I’m sorry, but I think your patience for this is about as expended as mine is for this world as a whole.” He shook his head, looking over towards the man in the sunglasses, approaching him slowly as he rubbed his hands together. “Tayama, you’ve been busy,” he said, his tone a little bit difficult to pinpoint. Was he mad? Excited? Expectant? Really more than anything, he seemed just a tad bit impatient. He soon walked past the man, looking out towards the metal construct, his smile dropping a bit as he looked over it.
After a moment of silence, likely to give his audience a chance to speak, he continues.
“After the eighth time, this story started to lose it’s charm,” he called out, turning towards Vriska and pointing towards her. “I’m guessing that was where you put most of your energy towards. Stunning victory, truly.” Soon, he moved his finger from pointing to Vriska, to pointing out towards the giant circle. “However if you don’t mind, I’d like to skip all of the formalities today. I’ve no intentions of allowing myself to be trapped in a never ending cycle any time soon. Or ever.”
Tumblr media
Suddenly, the man pulled out a small device that had been attached to the side of his belt, holding it up for a moment before bringing it back towards him.
“I made a few…” He bobbed his head back and forth, searching for the correct wording as he backed away from the two. “Modifications. Minor tweaks, easy too, you really did all of the footwork for me…” He scoffed, shaking his head. “I’m impressed and that does not happen often.” He pauses, looking between the two of them before laughing a bit.
“Sorry, interrupting the moment? Let me just…”
Suddenly, in a flash of red, the man was gone. If one were to pay attention, they would see a trail of red leading straight to the top of the Giant Loop, before eventually stopping.

“Huh? Not as many of you this time. Well, makes no difference to me.”
There it was again, that familiar voice. Vriska adjusted her glasses and looked up, instead of staring down bored at her feet. One could only watch the same cutscene so many times, before they desperately wanted to press the skip button.
“Welcome to the Skaiatech Perpetual reactor, is that the greeting you expected?”
He didn’t question why she was alone this time. Well, from his perspective this was the first time they had done this fight.
“So, what’s all this about? You’ve forgot all I’ve done for you and went with Yuriko, or Lilith I guess I should say.”
He flashed a small object out of his pocket, a switch. Behind him, a great circle of steel hollowed out in the middle stood, a logo on the wall behind it could be scene, a house built of shapes, it looked a little too simple for the stage of a boss, Vriska thought. A small yawn escaping, as she drifted further from the reality of the situation, her hands in her pockets, her shoulders relaxed.
“You only have to press this switch and the gate to the expanse opens.”
“If you know what it does then hand it over already.”
“Blow me kid, this thing won’t just screw up Tokyo it’d throw the whole world into Chaos.”
“Then I say such concern from a many who raises men to be harvested. Then you say, ‘you goddamned brat, if that gate opens, Tokyo’s gonna get a flood of demons coming in. More demons than our production line of reds can come up with, this city’s gonna be stuffed with stacks of stiffs ripped apart by the demons. Then you ask me if I would march into a place that had it made and ask them to change it all, and I say ‘Yes.’ The you say ‘The ashura-kai won a stunning victory over the firmament, No one crosses the great Tayama and learns to tell about it, sound good? Then you very angrily say, ‘Tokyo is mine, I won’t let anybody screw around with my utopia. Then we fight, so can we just skip to that part.”
Vriska said, with a roll of her eyes. Tayama stumbled back, not comprehending. He decided to try and assert his authority with anger as usual. He stomped his pointed black polished shoe o the ground, and dug into his pocket pulling out a bottle of red pills. His mouth opened to call forth his ace, but just at that moment he lost what remaining control he had of the situation. When a blur from nowhere came through the battlefield, and circled the reactor and the surrounding technology, stripping parts, and leaving scars on some of the walls.
Vriska herself finally dropped the bored act, and looked up, readjusting her glasses again. “Well, that’s new.”
The blur became a man which stood between them. Just as he formed, Tayama stumbled backwards and dropped the switch from his hand. It bounced across the floor skidding to a stop at the man’s feet.
“Wait, don’t touch that,” Vriska commanded almost immediately, grabbing onto her gauntlet out of reflex.

A time ago…
Survival was just a concept to be flirted with
                                                                                         …and now
We’ve begun to court something much more vicious.
How does one put into words the process of being completely and utterly removed from the fabric of existence? It isn’t something that can easily be put into words, and trying to conceptualize it is nearly impossible. How does one even fathom such a thing? The idea of being unwritten. Undone. Erased? It’s not something a person is generally given a chance to dwell on, because it isn’t a process that really welcomes thought, or leaving one with a mind to think with.
But this. This was all just a part of the machine, and even as he was torn away, Eobard Thawne was able to fix the issue. Or rather, postpone what seemed to be the inevitable. And he did so by doing what he always did.
He ran.
Tumblr media
It was ingenious, in a sense. His fate was tied to that specific iteration of time, so all he had to do was run himself out of that thread. And once he was able to break from it, and with the added measure of securing the Tachyon Prototype, the only question left wasn’t a matter of when, or where, but how long. True, he had caused a delay on his fate, but to secure himself from it, it would take a bit of creative manipulation, some quantum entanglement here, black matter distortion there. Child’s play, really.
Or, it was supposed to be.
Eventually, his running landed him somewhere less than familiar. Less than safe. It was a severed string of time, one seemingly disconnected from any other iterations of itself. More specifically, it seemed to be in a loop. A perfect pit stop, a self-sustaining loop that seemed capable of resetting itself if certain conditions were met. Being a visitor, he would be unaffected, most certainly, but it might wear him down as well. He couldn’t afford to stay here long, but he couldn’t afford to depart blindly either.
There was someone he had to find. But to find them, he would have to continue traveling through the threads, until reaching one specific node.
Until then, he would just have to stay in this place. This Wasteland. And try to blend in as best he could.
Tumblr media
Easier said than done, but he would manage. Monsters, well, those were easy enough to deal with. In a world such as this, it were the people that really needed to be watched out for.
