Betrayal & Regret Sentence Starters
“I told you not to get too close to me.” “From the day we met, I knew I’d hurt you eventually.” “I wish you never had trusted me.” “I told you to leave, but you didn’t. I gave you the chance!” “We were never friends. I’m so sorry.” “I did something terrible.” “It was inevitable, but I regretted it every step of the way.” “I’m mainly sorry that somewhere along the way, I started to care about you.” “I guess this is a lesson in not trusting people, right?” “How long?…Since the beginning.” “I wish I could just make a wish and become a better person.” “None if it was real, but I wish it was.” “Do you think I liked hurting you?” “I hurt people. It’s all I’m good at.” “I did it because I had to, not because I ever wanted to.” “I -did- care about you, I just had no other choice.” “You should have walked away when you had the chance.” “If we had never met, it would have saved us both some grief.” “I know it hurts, but I’m still glad we had the chance to know each other.” “Hurting you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.” “I didn’t want it to be like this, but I had no control!” “I guess I’ve just never been a trustworthy person.” “I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t want to forgive me either.” “So? Aren’t you going to say something?” “If I tell you what I did, we’ll probably never see one another again.”
“When were you going to tell me about this?” “Why me? Of all people, why me?” “You planned this all from the beginning?” “I wanted so badly to think you were different.” “How could you lead me along like that?” “None of what we had was ever real, was it?” “So, our friendship didn’t mean anything to you?” “I would have done anything for you, but you’ve ruined all of that.” “All of the things I sacrificed for you didn’t mean a thing?” “I wish I had known when we met that you were such a vile person.” “If I could go back, I would just walk away.” “I forgive you, but I’m not going to forget what you did.” “No. I don’t accept your apology.” “After all your lies, how do I know you mean it when you say you’re sorry?” “I hope you realized what you did was cruel.” “I still care about you.” “Just tell me that your feelings towards me were genuine.” “What on earth is worth betraying someone who loves you?” “If you want to regain my trust, you have to earn it.” “Don’t just say you’re sorry. Show me that you’re sorry.”

Qrow listened to the boy talk, and felt a tug at his heart. He wasn't really one for gripping emotional conversation, but he figured he'd try his best.
"Listen, kid, I get that you're frustated, but trying to force it isn't going to help him come back any faster. He's made his decision, obviously, and we're just going to have to deal with things as they are." He stopped walking and gently grabbed Oscar's arm. "The most important thing is that you're with us and you're safe. Whether Oz is around or not."
He was beginning to feel a little uncomfortable with the sappiness of his own voice, and cleared his throat. He let go of Oscar and picked up his hunched walk once more, nodding his head in front of them to make sure the boy followed. He was looking forward to getting back and crashing on the couch, or in someone's empty room should the group still be awake. Qrow figured it wouldnt hurt for a couple of the kids to be stuck sharing a bed just because he was snoozing away on theirs.
When Oscar asked about Salem, Qrow furrowed his eyebrows and frustration crossed his features. He thought about the question for a minute before speaking.
"I dont know, kiddo. I really couldn't tell you. The way things are looking, that might be the case." The last thing Qrow wanted to do was lie to him and plant a seed of false hope. "But you won't be alone."
Qrow had had more than enough sap for the night, and pursed his lips after he finished his sentence. By this time, they were nearing the house, and he turned onto the corresponding street and made his way down the sidewalk. He decided to change the subject, because he still wasn't sure how they were going to face Salem at all.
"Listen, uhh, Ruby is definitely still awake, but I'm not sure about the rest of the group. I am beat and would like to crash when we get inside, but Ruby will make sure you're all set and feeling better before you get some sleep of your own."
Approching the building, Qrow stopped on the front steps and took his flask out again. He glanced down at Oscar and swallowed the rest of what was in the canister before gesturing vaguely towards the door. "If I walk in first and you're nowhere to be seen she'll kill me."
“Dammit, kid,” Qrow muttered, siting down on the curb of a poorly lit street. He put his elbow on one knee and dug around for his flask. Taking one long swig, he snapped it closed again and eyed a far alleyway. It was getting to be very dark out, and Qrow wasn’t going to let Oscar spend the night away from their group, away from the little comfort they could provide. Probably more comfort than he was gonna get out here, the man thought.
He sat for a few minutes, thinking about Oscar. Poor kid, sucked into this mess with no way out. Qrow could only imagine what the boy’s life could have been like had Oz never merged with him. Happy, and simple, he supposed.
With a sigh, he stood himself back up on swaying legs, and set off. He was determined to find this kid. “Oscar!” he called out into the night, hoping it would bring the child back.

Qrow approached Oscar and watched him stand up, and he reached out to brush the kid’s clothes off. “Hey, no apologies. Not to me, at least,” Qrow responded, cracking the faintest of smiles. “Ruby’s going to need one, though. Took everything to stop her from coming out here alone. I managed to convince her that I’d go instead, but she still wasn’t very happy.”
He stood up straight, looking down at Oscar with a nod. At least when Qrow bought Oscar back, he wouldn’t look so much like he slept in the dirt.
“She’s got a big heart, kiddo. Not a thing in this world can keep her down, least of all a lost friend.” He didn’t want to think too deeply about that statement, so he shook his head and moved past the thoughts. “Come on. Better get home before she tears this town apart.”
Qrow made a vague motion with his hand, and grabbed his flask from his shirt. He took one gulp, and then glanced down at Oscar. With a sigh, he took mother long drink before stashing it away.
“You kids will be the cause of my early demise, I swear,” he muttered, walking out onto the dark street. “Any word from Oz, pipsqueak?”

Qrow: I’m not a drunk, I’m an alcoholic.
Taiyang: It’s the same thing.
Qrow: No, drunks drink to have a good time. I drink because I want to be dead.

Qrow got down and held his sword in front of him as she ran towards him, using the thick blade to catch the tip of her sword and push it aside. In retaliation, he swung his blade down hard at her, once, twice, three times, before jumping back and taking defense again.
“Oz knows what he needs, he’s a smart guy,” he began, standing up straight. He shrugged and glanced away for a second, before turning his gaze back onto Winter. “He trusts me because he has reasons to trust me, Oh Angry One.” The nicknames for Winter were such fun for Qrow, a small thing he could do to get under her skin while he bested her in a fight.
“And yet you, my dear Ice Queen, are just General Jimmy’s dog...”
Qrow cocked a smile. “And you act like one too.”
“Hey, Ice Queen!”
Qrow had his flask in one hand, and the other held out to his side expectantly. He flicked his tongue over his lip and dropped his arm to his side, and began meandering in her direction.
“Busy tonight, hmm?”

Qrow searched for another half hour, occasionally knocking on a poor stranger’s door to ask if they’d seen a kid “about yea high, chestnut hair, probably crying”. It was to no avail, and the most he got were disgruntled looks and doors shut in his face. Another strong sigh left Qrow’s lungs, and he set off once again.
It wasn’t until he was about ready to go home and tell Ruby he’d given up that he saw him. A frightened boy, curled up on the ground in an alley off the street he was walking. Qrow took a few hesitant steps closer to make sure he was seeing things clearly and it truly was Oscar, before calling out to him.
“Hey, kid, you’re killing me,” he sighed, hunching his shoulders as he walked towards Oscar. “I’ve been looking for you for hours.”
He didn’t stop to consider what might be going through Oscar’s head, the reason he’s run off in the first place. All he knew was that the boy was safe and Qrow could take him home.
“Come on, Ruby’s worries sick.”
“Dammit, kid,” Qrow muttered, siting down on the curb of a poorly lit street. He put his elbow on one knee and dug around for his flask. Qrow spun his scythe around to block Winter’s strike, but then took one large step backwards, and collapsed his weapon back into a sword.
“You’re not worth my scythe,” he spoke blankly, rolling his eyes.
Though he preferred to keep mostly on the defense, he brought his sword down hard against Winter’s ready weapon, hoping to knock her back a peg.
No amount of alcohol in the world, let alone his flask, could keep the thoughts of Summer from trickling into his mind. Why had Winter felt the need to use her against him? He already knew it was his fault, his luck, that had gotten her killed. What more did she want from him?
“You’re gettin’ sloppy, and it shows.”
“Hey, Ice Queen!”
Qrow had his flask in one hand, and the other held out to his side expectantly. He flicked his tongue over his lip and dropped his arm to his side, and began meandering in her direction.

Qrow dropped his hands, rightfully astounded by Winter’s words. His jaw hung slack for a moment, before his face grew dark and he wrapped his fingers around the handle of Harbinger. No words could convey just how snide that comment was, and he didn’t try to search for the right ones.
“Fine,” he expressed, drawing his weapon and letting it unfurl. “Play it that way.”
He refused to make the first move, despite her attempts to draw out his anger. He wagered he was better in a fight when he was drunk, and more fun, too. That didn’t help him now, though, as he felt a pang of heartache for Summer Rose.
“Hey, Ice Queen!”
Qrow had his flask in one hand, and the other held out to his side expectantly. He flicked his tongue over his lip and dropped his arm to his side, and began meandering in her direction.

“Oh,” Qrow put his hands up in feigned shock, his eyes widening. “General Jimmy, apologies.”
He took one last good swig from his flask and shoved it back into his shirt. He eyed her sword, hands still in the air, and a smile flashed across his ragged face. “Looking for a fight, huh?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow.
He never did understand how Winter kept her job and her reputation, after seeing how she broke down into a fighting stance every time word of him crossed her ears. She had anger issues she really needed to get resolved.
“Okay...hit me, princess.”
“Hey, Ice Queen!”
Qrow had his flask in one hand, and the other held out to his side expectantly. He flicked his tongue over his lip and dropped his arm to his side, and began meandering in her direction.
