The hermit community is pretty old so I probably don’t have to say this, but I know a lot of people in the fandom are young; but here’s a few tips from an old school yog fan

1. just because someone has left or did a bad thing, doesn’t mean you’re a bad person for enjoying the content, along with still wanting to watch that old content they did or were a part of

2. Just because someone has left or did a bad thing does not mean you cannot continue to make fan content. While it’s understandable if you don’t make more or remove art you have made, you are also not bad if you don’t. YouTube is all about collaboration and transformation. Fanart? Fanfic? Cosplay? That’s all transformative, you don’t have to stop making a new thing from the old thing. It’s fully in your right to do so, but it’s not required.

3. Do not harass people about whether they do or don’t make art or delete art, it’s transformative works and personal choice, the most you should do is ask for it to be tagged so it can be filtered.

4. Don’t harass the creators either, it’s clearly been handled and handled well. If this was a case of it being ignored for years by the company or group (COUGH SJIN YOGSCAST COUGH) then it would be more complicated, but it’s a solved issue. Don’t harass iskall or stress either

5. You are allowed to hold off on making a value judgment until you have more information. We don’t have a lot of information and things around kids media tend to be a lot more stricter then adults for what’s appropriate. so it could be a lot of different things of highly varying morality ranging from assault to a bad case of public intoxication that didn’t fit the child friendly brand of the Hermits. We don’t know. Especially about Stress her resignation and how it relates is a near total mystery right now.

6. Be kind to each other, and remember the people you watch are people, and people do dumb or fucked shit sometimes, it sucks, but these are just people, hopefully it’s something to be grown from by Iskall and not something life ruining, but let this remind everyone to not put people on pedestals as unproblematic. Every hermit has probably held an opinion or been a part of something you’d find distasteful, that’s just what it means to be human. It’s up to you to decide where your personal line is and your comfort levels on that stuff, and no one can make that choice for you.

but because the "this isn't a scripted series" read as me being against theorizing and lore which I am not I wanna make an amendment: theorizing that Jimmy is doomed to die forever because he's cursed by God is BORING. It's a handwavey "a wizard did it" that detracts from actual character analysis. Like, suppose the Canary's Curse is real- suddenly his teammates are justified for abandoning him since he'll die anyway. Suddenly people are justified for making him a grave in advance. It turns so much character analysis into absolutely nothing.

also, this is slightly less of an issue, but I see people acting like the Canary Curse is just. Canon. Like I've seen a couple people say that Jimmy is Going to die at some point, and that's Going to be what heralds chaos.

if we wanna go with symbolism I like having Jimmy as a symbol of innocence. Grian, as the gamemaker, stands with everything the game stands for. He plays largely by the rules, and he never breaks them, only bends them, and when he does bend them, it ends up causing more suffering. Killing people in 3rd Life. Cheating on his soulmate in Double Life. Jimmy, conversely, is a symbol that stands against the games, maybe a Listener plant if we wanna roll with Watcher/Listener lore. He's a pacifist, he's kindhearted, people mock him when he's there and mourn him when he's gone. And in a place like this, innocence has to die. Either it dies with Jimmy, as he goes out again and again due to his own lack of violence, or it dies in Jimmy as he learns the feeling of blood on his hands.

This is why I think he'd be a narratively satisfying winner this season, by the way. He's learned violence, and this is being praised. He kills people he once loved. He continues on after Scar's death. All the while, each victim's last words are of disbelief, or surprise, or pride, each life ended more and more confirmation that he's doing the right thing. And he wins, he finally wins, and there's nobody left to congratulate him.

cries because everybody in this fandom sees the thought of Jimmy winning as a laughable impossibility and even people who say they're rooting for him only mean it as a joke and whenever you mention that he's doing good people have to let you know that it won't last long and inevitably he will die first because of some stupid self-fulfilling prophecy that got turned into my least favorite fanon ever. why can't he just be like a player who has a chance just like everyone else does. have you stopped to consider WHY he dies first so often? it's not a curse. this isn't a scripted series. it's because he's incredibly pacifistic and because people generally don't want to help him because they consider him a weak player. both of these things have been done away with this season, he has a taste for blood and an ally who is both incredibly underrated in his strength and has said he would never betray him. jimmy has as much a chance as anyone else.

I do like Wild Life I'm just putting it out there. Just to let people know. It's a very fun season. But I do have critical (critical meaning criticizing not important) thoughts on it that I do want to share so. have them.

I DON'T LIKE GIMMICKS OKAY THERE I SAID IT. I know the gimmicks are the point. I know what Wild Life is trying to be and it's succeeding at it with flying colors but it's also not something I particularly like. There are parts of Wild Life that I love- none of them have anything to do with the gimmicks. I love Scaridarity teamup. I love the toxic exes. I love Rendog. I love Jimmy having blood on his hands.

But I do have thoughts on the gimmicks so I'm going to break them up by session.

GIMMICKS AS A WHOLE: There are three big problems with the gimmicks. The first is that because they can't be tested, nobody knows how balanced they are until it's too late. This was especially a problem in session 3, but sessions 1 and 2 still had unforseen issues that both killed Pearl. The second problem is that they take away from the death game itself. Much like with Secret Life's tasks, every episode now revolves entirely around the gimmick, with little room for anything else. The only session that didn't get hit by this was 4, and yet again 3 was hit the worst.

The third problem is the advantage it gives Grian, or more accurately the disadvantage it gives everyone except Grian. Sure, Grian's already won, so he's not going to use his knowledge to win, but it still puts others behind. In session 5, Scar lost a life because Grian knew something about the gimmick that he didn't. I don't think it's unfair in that he has an advantage in winning, but he has an advantage in playing- he's much more of a threat, and it detracts from others' chances, especially since he's not very equal-opportunity in who he fucks over. iirc it's almost always the bamboozlers.

With that being said I can now criticize the gimmicks by session:

Session 1: No problems other than shifting not working. That should've maybe been vetted, I'm sure it would've been fixable.

Session 2: Besides the universal problem of the gimmicks taking up all the attention in an episode, this one was really good. No notes. Maybe the shuffling could've been toned down to give people more time to actually do things.

Session 3: Session 3 is Session 3. To trim it down: the snails were too complicated, multiple deaths were just unfair, and Grian had an advantage in knowing how they worked when nobody else did. You can really tell they weren't tested beforehand because they forced the session to end early. If I were the one deciding, they would've just been immortal snails that move at consistently half player walking speed, can climb up walls, and break blocks at diamond tool speed. No lunging, no instabroken blocks, no weird soulmate mechanic that only applies to the water. People didn't die to the snails because of their own failures, they died because of a failed gimmick.

Session 4: The gimmick affected very close to jack shit. On the one hand, this is a very big part of Session 4 being my favorite session, on the other hand, it was kind of boring for a series that's supposed to be all gimmick.

Session 5: There have already been posts about the unfortunate consequences of TriviaBot being made by fandom members. I agree with them, but I don't feel like repeating other people's words. All I'll say is that this was the most fandomy session out of any life series session ever, handcrafted to make shippers point at their screens and yell. On the other hand, that robot came down from the sky to ask Scar if he remembered who he got cucked by, and that was fucking awesome, so good session all around besides the whole Grian knowing it can turn into a snail and accidentally killing Scar with it thing.

Experiencing extreme erasure by everyone, even our own communities and those who claim to be our allies, only to then be called exclusionists for making our own niche sub-spaces that focus on ourselves and literally do not infringe or invalidate the larger spaces that don’t welcome us existing at all & being demonised by people all around us just for existing visibly & having people make assumptions on our lived experience without ever listening to what we ourselves have to say ever & it's often at the very least implicitly, if not explicitly and actively, encouraged to listen to everyone but us on our experiences & getting accused of bigotry [towards other queer people] the second we open our mouths about our own experiences with oppression & also constantly getting ableism and saneism thrown at us (being called "mentally ill").

I don't have many followers so I don't know how much this post is going to get out there but I would really appreciate if we could tag our political posts, even the hopeful ones. Really trying not to think about how I'm going to need to put off transitioning for the next four years, and while I've managed to filter some posts there are still some that are untagged and worded so vaguely that they're impossible to block.

Seriously, if you're talking about the election, at least put the word election in the post.
