forever mourning how granada holmes never adapted the three garridebs. diabolical. unbelievable, even. 'if you had killed watson you would not have made it out of this room alive' but in brett's frightfully intense and low, biting, hissing voice. the violent, wild stare versus the gentle hand on watson's knee. all of that precarious control getting flung out the window. the humanity of it. gritting my teeth can you fucking imagine.

I always felt that Holmes’ backstory wasn’t traumatic, at least not in the dramatic sense that we thinks of the word. As in, I’m sure he’d faced a lot of shit, but he wasn’t poor or beaten by his parents or assaulted. No major events that created his persona. More so a collection of smaller moments, like not getting invited to play with the other kids. Not out of malice, but because they didn’t understand him and it was easier not to try. He had difficulties in school because he was bored with the material. He had trouble forming connections because he was different. He probably had a lot of sensory issues that nobody was willing to accommodate for, because it was the 1800’s and people thought he was bratty. It was a slow build up over time that caused him to put up walls from the rest of the world.

I think that Watson is one of the first people who really TRIES to get to know him. Who tolerates his endless scratching on the violin. Who sits and listens to him gush about Paganini for hours, with no place that he’d rather be. Who not only respects his great mind, but sees beyond that, to the person underneath.
