“Oh of course,” Regan gestured for Aoibhinn to sit across from her. Even though she left Hogwarts a long time ago, Regan was still getting used to seeing her friends, or the friends of her friends, outside of school. Once Katie took her under her wing, she was thrown into a life of socialization. She loved it of course, but sometimes it got a bit overwhelming. Though she knew everyone was nice and welcomed her with open arms, she still felt somewhat of an outsider, coming from a muggle family.
She didn’t exactly know Aoibhinn on a ‘best friend’ level, but any friend of Rose & Hugo was a friend of hers, so she was grateful for the company. Plus she did remember the two of them go along when they did see each other at school, so she was eager to catch up. “How are you? What have you been up to?”
Aoibhinn smiled gratefully and took a seat, setting her iced matcha down in front of her. It was nice to be around someone who had known her before her books and Wixtogram took off. It felt more normal. Being an influencer had its perks, but nothing compared to being treated like a normal witch. “Well, I started a food blog. Magic technology has come so far! I’m grateful, it gave me a position.”
“I was just at a book signing, actually.” A blush spread across her cheeks. She didn’t want to sound braggadocios. “I just put out my first cook book. Here, actually, I have an extra copy on me—” she pulled one out from her bag and slid it across the table. “Keep it, I have a hundred. What’ve you been up to? Everything going well?”

Regan opened the door to the bookshop, allowing her to finally push the hair out of her face. She was excited to be back in London with her friends, hopefully getting her career on track and starting her life. It’s not that she regretted moving home after school but knew she did it mostly out of guilt, feeling terrible that her brother never bothered to even send a postcard to their parents, let alone come visit. She felt she had to visit for both of them, no wonder she stayed so long.
The shop was smaller than she remembered, but she had only visited London a handful of times before moving permanently. Still, she knew exactly where to go to find what she was looking for. Her copy of Pride and Prejudice was at her parent’s house, no doubt catching dust on her old bookshelves. Her mom had offered to mail it to her, but it had been worn and read so many times, Regan feared it wouldn’t survive the post office, and using wizard methods never worked well when it came to her muggle parents.
She found a used copy that definitely could use more love, made her purchase, and braced herself to go back outside and across the street to a coffee shop. By the time she finally settled into a chair by the window with her iced coffee, she was exhausted. She decided to start a reread of the book she just bought but looked up when she heard footsteps approaching her chair. “Hi?” She winced internally when she realized she phrased such a simple greeting as a question. Starting conversations was never her strong suit.
Aoibhinn’s hand was cramping from the book signing she had just left. Thousands of books scrawled with her looping Aoibhinn Thomas-Finnigan—happy cooking! It felt like she had carpal tunnel, though she couldn’t possibly. It was the most that she had ever used her wrists in her life. Cooking was in the hands, sure, but she also sometimes cut corners and chopped things with her wand. It was so much quicker, not to mention safer, than ordinary Muggle knives. There had been a surprisingly large turnout for her signing. The panic of meeting new people (her least favorite thing) was outweighed by the joy that bringing recipes to people gave her. Somewhere, some day, someone would make her lemon tart.
There was nothing more refreshing than a matcha latte after a long day’s work. She loathed coffee but enjoyed the atmosphere that coffee shops brought. London wouldn’t ever truly feel like home—that was Dublin—but at this point it was as good as. Diagon Alley was finally starting to catch on to Muggle trends that had been around for ages. She was happy to see it.
Normally, Aoibhinn was not the kind of person to approach someone else in public. She made an exception for Regan, whom she had known from school. “Alright, Regan?” Though they hadn’t been in the same house, she remembered Regan hanging out with Rose. “I dunno if you’ll remember me. I’m friends with Hugo Weasley. Aoibhinn Thomas-Finnigan. D’you mind if I sit?”

ABOUT
Aoibhinn was the child that Dean and Seamus had wanted for years. They couldn’t decide how to go about it: adoption or a surrogate. In the end, they chose a surrogate. Deal was they would use Dean’s DNA and Seamus would be able to decide on the name. Her childhood was filled with laughter, quidditch, and football. Raised in both the Muggle and Wix worlds, Aoibhinn learned how to interact with all cultures and identities.
Dean’s mother is an excellent (Muggle) cook, which is where Aoibhinn’s love of cooking came from. She would spend hours painstakingly rolling out biscuit dough—cutting them into different shapes and sizes—sandwiching them between homemade jam. Some of her best childhood memories were in her grandmother’s kitchen.
At Hogwarts, she had to grow into her own skin. Aoibhinn is a gentle soul—sometimes to a fault. She takes after Dean in that way, always the peacekeeper. She learned that sometimes it is better to take your time and think problems through before jumping into action. Despite that reservation, she was sorted into Gryffindor house almost immediately. Even though her fuse is rather long, she’s ultimately daring and courageous (sometimes to a fault—like Seamus).
After Hogwarts she wasn’t sure what her career would be. That was, until her Wixtogram following grew overnight. It was her videos on social media that caught people’s attention, as well as being the daughter of two war heroes. She carved out an identity for herself, apart from her fathers, by showcasing her culinary talents.
Aoibhinn grew up with the Weasley-Granger-Potters like most of the children of Dumbledore’s Army did. Their exclusivity always extended to her. She has always been close with Hugo, who is the same age as she is. Growing up she loved hearing stories of her fathers’ adventures in saving the world.
