He’d like to blame his father for his stupid decisions. He wanted to blame him for dying, because it was so easy to blame a dead man for not being around.
But you can’t blame the dead for dying. It wasn’t fair. So Ronan blamed everything else. He blamed Kavinsky, for offering the drugs, and he blamed himself for taking them. He blamed Gansey for looking at him with wide, mournful eyes that made Ronan feel nothing but rage. He blamed the man with the tire iron for beating his dad’s skull in, and he blamed Niall Lynch when he was alive for being such a scoundrel that he got himself killed. He blamed Declan for not caring, and Matthew for caring too much, and his mom for caring so much that she’d gone unresponsive.
Blame was so easy. Falling into Kavinsky was easier.

The summer after high school, after Glendower and a contentious will-they-won't they relationship, things finally seem to be settling in for Ronan, Adam, and Kavinsky.
Ronan has brought Adam - and sometimes Kavinsky - to live at the Barns. It's a return to the home he used to know... with the new relationships and people who love him... But he's got plenty to learn about his own boundaries and feelings, specifically why he chooses to stay when everyone else moves on.
Adam always knew what would come after Glendower, after magic, and especially after high school... But now he wonders if he's still as set on his plans as he wants to be. He's not sure how much he misses magic or if his future can handle the answer... and if he's discounted other things the same way.
In theory, Kavinsky's got everything he could want or need... But he can never leave well-enough alone. He's stuck in a balancing act: nurturing his relationships and his selfishness, reconciling his past and looking forward. The only thing that might settle it is finding out how he'd got there in the first place...which is easier said than done when the answer could make him lose it all.
