Baze has returned after a long separation. Chirrut has feelings.

This is initially inspired by what I would call the “Wong-Kar-Wai-verse” subplot from Everything Everywhere All At Once (if you know, you know, and if you don’t know, go watch the movie now, it’s amazing), but for all intends and purposes, the plot turned from “wistfully thinking of what could have been” to “reconciliation upon reunion”.

“That’s-“ she started, racking her brain for platitudes of assurance, before deciding to settle on the truth. “That’s the hard part. No, I don’t trust you. But I don’t think you trust me either. And trust needs to go both ways.” She stuck out her hand. “How about this, instead? I promise to learn to trust you.”

He looked at her hand carefully before shaking it, as if trying to decide if doing so would accidentally trigger a bomb. He went forward with the motion anyway. “I promise to learn to trust you, too.”

With the Yavin budget crisis growing more urgent, the City Hall gang's antics devolve into chaos when Luke and Bodhi go on a date, Jyn and Cassian cause problems, and everyone is stuck with cleaning up the consequences, figuring out how best to move forward. Of course, shenanigans ensue.

“Easy-" Baze started to caution her, but Jyn cut him off.

Cassian’s face was expressionless except for one raised brow. “This building has feelings?” he asked evenly.

His voice rose in anger to match hers for the first time. “Because I didn’t cause these problems, Ms. Erso, your government did.”

Cassian Andor has a problem. In fact, he has lots of problems, not least of all Jyn Erso and Leia Organa. Both for very different reasons. Leia is determined to see him happily coupled up. As for Jyn, well, she's Jyn Erso. Then again, perhaps the two problems aren't so very different after all.

   The problem was, the universe really had it out for Cassian this year.

  Not only was he single, up to his eyeballs in work, and in the midst of some very pathetic, unfortunate feelings for a certain someone who needed no introduction (but shone like the brightest star in the Galaxy despite her grumpiness), but Leia had decided this party was going to be one to be remembered. Plus ones all around.
