the problem with "I need to criticise myself to prepare for other people criticising me" is that it fails to account for the possibilities that a) nobody will criticise you, or b) the people who do criticise you are not people you value the opinions of anyway. i wish more people realized how dangerous it is to fall into the mindset of "everyone outside of My Group is out to get me/us. everyone of This Group is the enemy."

this is priming you for getting sucked into radicalized hate groups, conspiracy theories, abusive relationships, or cults- more likely multiple of those at once.

diversify who you interact with, including those that dont agree with you on every single topic. its harder to realize how deep you may be falling into bad mindsets/ideas/mistreatment until you get a reality check from outside your group.

“in order to create loving males we need to love males” means teach boys that they can be themselves without being less of a man. it means being encouraging and nurturing of their emotions so they don’t become cold and hateful. it means showing boys, early in their lives, that they have value outside of what our society deems proper masculinity. what it doesn’t mean is that it’s our job to handhold men who see women as walking sex toys through the concept of empathy, and maybe if we’re really really nice to them and don’t say things that hurt their feelings they’ll stop killing us for saying no
