For this fieldwork assignment I interviewed a relative. His immigration story begins when he developed a dream inspired by the Blue Angels when they visited Bermuda for an air show. At seven years old he had the desire to be in the United States Military. Six years later, he arrived in America and joined Navy JROTC as a high school freshman and three years later joined the Maryland Army National Guard. In his final year of high school, he became a naturalized American citizen and continued to live his dream retiring from the United States Army with 21 years of service. He was born in Bermuda, where he lived for seven years off and on rotating from St. Kitts where he lived for six years. He directly immigrated from St. Kitts at 13 years old. Since, he was only 13 years old when he immigrated his parents had much to do with the decision. He spoke about how his mom allowed him to move with his father who resided in Maryland. He expressed that his parents understood it was time for him to move closer to his dream, but it was not an easy decision for his mother. In 1995 he received his naturalization via his father’s application for citizenship since he was under 18 years old, he didn’t take a citizen test. He expressed that he is thankful his experience was not complicated. Some factors that influenced his experience as an immigrant were the United States military which he held a top-secret clearance which required him to keep track of immediate family which includes aunts, uncles, first cousins especially those who immigrated. His requirement to track family was more stringent than his American-born peers.

The ingredients of a Twix are Milk Chocolate (Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate, Skim Milk, Lactose, Milkfat, Soy Lecithin, PGPR, Artificial Flavors), Sugar, Enriched Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Palm Oil, Corn Syrup, Skim Milk, Dextrose, Less than 2% - Food Starch-Modified, Salt, Cocoa Powder, Baking Soda, Soy Lecithin, Artificial Flavor. Twix (Mars Inc.'s) main source of chocolate comes from smallholder farmers in parts of West Africa, Southeast Asia and the Americas. Children who work on cocoa plantations are exposed to hazards such as dangerous tools, dust, flames or smoke, chemicals, and/or physically demanding labor such as carrying heavy loads or spending many hours in the sun. TransFair USA, which is a third-party nonprofit Fair Trade certifier, ensures that farmers whomake the cocoa aren't being screwed over by the big corporations. The FDA also regulates trade by ensuring food quality standards are met. A store owner on average earns 55-75% of the sales made. I picked up a pack of Twix 4 to go for $1.39 at target.

This article illustrates inequality that is seen today in the conditions of working people compared to those without jobs. Karl Marx said, “ Labor is the source of wealth and prime basic condition for human existence”. Covid-19 has left many unemployed which has also led to many people losing their homes. Jobs let people go for budget cuts, or because that position was no longer believed to be “essential”. Which are all ridiculous reasons to let someone go in a time where they would need the job the most.

My mother and my father had DNA test completed. So, based on their findings. I am 68% African, 31% Caucasian and 1% Spanish (Spain not Hispanic). From my interviews with my mother, she stated how her mother’s grandparents never claimed to be African but Native American. She stated how melaninated people have travels thousands of years before Christopher Columbus and that Africans came to America long before the slave trade. My mother said that the Negroid Natives of America were made slaves and the Mongoloid Natives sided with the Colonizers and they were given land in the reservations even though later the Colonizers tried to kill them off also. Any Negroid Natives were reclassified as African-American. My great grandfather was a Blackfoot Indian from Greensboro, North Carolina. My great grandmother was from Poolsville, Maryland. When I was younger we all watched the movie “THE HELP” and I remember my great grandmother crying and tell all of us that she was a maid for a white family when she was 16. She later went to school and worked for the Pentagon and retired and became an elementary school teacher. My mothers father is white. I learned how the Italians and Irish were indentured servants. They weren’t slaves but they worked to get a form of freedom but were paid a wage. My family has not embraced American Nationalism because America

The location I chose was Peppermill Recreation Center. I try to go here every morning to get some exercise.
On the day of my observations I noticed it was only me and my best friend exercising. It’s usually a good 5 people there whenever we go.
One thing that I would have expected to find is people. Not necessarily at the center but at least walking the street or just outside.
I would say this space has definitely been impacted by COVID-19. It is said that you shouldn’t exercise with your mask on. This could be a reason to why there is a lack of people in the area.

While doing this assignment I learned a lot about myself. I spend money on items that are unnecessary for everyday life. Majority of these items I really do not need. This exercise definitely made appreciate the things I have a whole lot more.
