You want to be immortal? Immortality is when your words ring so true they are translated into languages that didn't even exist when you first wrote them, across time so deep that the dust your bones turned to has become bone and then dust once again.

A friend and I got a bit stoned and after laughing at how the level 1 machamp he caught in pokemon go must be a weak nerd. Skinny, no belt, thick frames glasses, and a book in each hand. It got me thinking about a reversal of the machop and abra lines.
A machop that gives up violence and instead becomes a psychic type (machop -> machak -> machakra, the yogi pokemon; ancient scrolls suggest humans learned early spiritual practices from this pokemon, it is dedicated to pacifism and known to aid travellers lost in the mountains).
An abra with an attitude that prefers to scrap rather than run and becomes a fighting type (abra -> kabadra -> alakaslam, the delinquent pokemon; the chain it carries wrapped around its body contains 5000 links, it can slam the chain into the ground with enough force to cause small earthquakes).

What about the feeling that you’ve grown but into something you hardly recognize?
Flashes in the lake-- scales and feathers and fur. How strange, the shapes you take. You can barely hold them in your head. You were once a simple thing, so small you could hold your heart in your palm like a chestnut and wonder if this was your world. Now, clumsy beast, sprawling limbs and tangled mane, you spill between fingers and out of arms. Not a one can hold all of you, not even your own yellow eye. A beast now. A beast unknown. But your twisting feet are free to leap-- a beastly pleasure. Dance with me.

Hold, the bulb whispers to itself, biding beneath the earth. There will be a day for me. The fields will clear and then I can grow as I know I can, let loose all this green kept shuttered in the seed. When the other roots make room for me. When the wind wanders calm. When the soil is soft, weathered down the rocks and frost with spring-melt. Stay your stem. Wait, it whispers and whimpers and wails– wait– til the winter has fallen back and round again, and patient, polite, withered, it waits.
