#i dont think there's ever been a single manga that didn't have mistranslated names and then people just move on after the correction#why's Yahya special
Honestly the whole fandom's been bad about names the whole time, Yahya's not the only one people won't update themselves on he's just the biggest one. Like I'm personally never gonna be able to shake calling them "Sebun" and "Voss" but that feels less obtrusive than like, a major-antagonist-turned-we-forgot-he-was-supposed-to-be-the-bad-guy, y'know?
Like do you remember five years ago when there was SO MUCH fighting over putting the "H" in Legoshi's name? "He's named after Bela Lugosi, LegSHI sounds dumb!" I saw people make alts of their fan art just to have a version with both spellings.
I mean, there's reasons why it's so bad, too. Lot of early stuff of Louis called him "Rouis" which was a lot of people's justification for saying you can't trust official stuff. Netflix promo stuff and I think even the subtitles call him and Haru "Rouis" and goddamn "Hal", even the dub makes the same v/b mistake with Voss mentioned above.
and I don't know how normal this is, I'm not in a lot of anime/manga fandoms, but anecdotally I don't think I know anyone who's read the official translation that wasn't already a massive fan who read the fan translations Which, makes sense to me, I've looked and I haven't found an easy place online to read a rip of the official version.
Since season 3 came out I've seen a bunch of comments on different pieces of art like "Yahya? I thought his name was Yafya" and then people blaming the anime or talking about how the mistranslation happened etc etc
And I can't really begrudge a fan translator for getting a name wrong, it happens, and I get that people wouldn't know "Yahya" is an actual name I mean I didn't til like a year ago, but this is kind of a special case where
A: It poisoned the entire tag for him on every website ever, the fan translations fixed their mistranslation of Melon cause it was part of a bunch of visual themes but didn't give the same courtesy to Ya"f"ya when they realized the mistake
and B: Like literally the sixth chapter the name appears in the manga ever it's written In English. Debut in 99, name on letter in 115. That's about 4 months real-time. Only one chapter longer than they called him Meron.
#yahya#louis#haru#legoshi#fandom complaining#yafya#rouis#hal#legosi#as a final aside: the number theme naming is really prevelant in a way I still don't totally understand the importance of#but yeah legoSHI is kinda significant actually use your head

#Yahya#I'm not like mad or disappointed just like frustrated#We could've fixed this#annoyed at seeing the same conversation again and again and needing to search two times for anything

All Legoshi's friends should get in a group chat focused just on documenting what he's doing day-to-day cause like, no one in his life seems to know more than like 20% of his current goals and feelings and side gigs at any given moment.
Like if Legoshi fully explained the Riz situation to Jack or Haru or the Melon situation to Haru or Louis or the Yahya situation to Louis or Jack every single person in his life would be able to switch from constant worrying to sitting him the fuck down and actually handling his emotional problems, right? At some point they gotta realize he's never getting smarter and just start working things out around him.

I was recommended a video that was called something like "are the mario rpgs canon" and I didn't watch it because I'm like. in too deep for that question to mean anything to me. like what would they be canon to? the only sensible answers are "yes, because all mario media is equally canon" or "no, because all mario media is equally canon"

Why didn't I think of that?!
#gosha#toki#legoshi#haru#I still like to think of this scene as him hearing the question 'do wolves like it warmer or colder'#and actually thinking for a moment like 'huh what do WOLVES like? probably cold'#instead of realizing she was asking what HE would like#Because he's part lizard so he actually always thinks the dorm is a little too cold
