help why did almost all of my moots go as Jane doe or Ricky Potts for Halloween 😭😭 (spacedolls 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑)

thinking about how ocean’s parents have led her to her extreme nature. they likely dismissed any complaints out of hand because of their toxic positivity hippie thing, so she likely never got properly listened to and couldn’t express her feelings properly growing up. nothing she did got any feedback, so she craves arguments or at least conflict so she knows other people are reacting, she wants her words to matter, she wants to be able to use her feelings and get her way because nothing she did could shake her parents’ unwavering chill. i severely doubt they dealt with any negative feelings from ocean well, they probably just gave her a bunch of platitudes and expected her to jibe with the groovy shtick like they did because they raised her on it. all that would leave her in the odd position of technically being validated, but it never being enough because it’s all hollow, so she needs awards, she needs to win, she needs to know that the praise means something. it also probably fed into her toxic friendship with constance. an average life isn’t enough because you need to force your way into being heard, and you can’t prove you’re the best if you don’t have anyone to contrast against. plus, constance’s whole life is essentially one big platitude and that led to her depression references in the end of the play. she was the ‘nice’ one, the hometown girl, ocean likely couldn’t detect any want to change or excel because she didn’t look any deeper and it fed into her existing complex about validation. constance accepted ocean’s forceful nature because she was passive and may have been drawn to someone so overly out there, ocean was drawn to constance because of the steady source of validation, but also because it was controlled validation and probably reminded her of the toxic positivity, except in her favour this time. her feelings were understandable and important, but with constance she could actually control what she was doing and the outcome, whereas her parents whole thing was being uncontrolled and free.
