I have a feminist friend who lives in the USA and volunteers as an escort for an abortion clinic. These women make sure the women seeking help can get there safely. I won't give out my friend's identity for safety reasons but she's been sharing her experience over the years and I just want to give you a glimpse of what it's like. Also, she's a remarkable woman and I love her and thank her for everything she has been doing for women.

and my bitter, misanthropic, atheist Brit Lit teacher, who hated my class because he was obsessed with teaching Tom Sawyer but got stuck with Shakespeare and Jane Austen, was the first, and this day the last man I have ever heard articulate a rebuttal from the depths of his soul to the idea that it was normal for teenage girls to be desirable to middle aged men

Fun fact about the early Catholic church is that, despite spending generations being persecuted by the Roman empire, it took less than 15 years under Theodosius I to go from “the empire is Catholic now” to “and also every other religion is banned.” You can literally read St. Augustine move from “state religious persecution is unacceptable” to “state religious persecution is cool actually” over his lifetime as Catholicism came to power. I’m sure there’s no broader lessons to be learned there
