The last day I worked was March 13, 2020- 148 days ago. My work, like many others in arts and entertainment, require me to consistently be in close proximity to others. Without a vaccine for Covid-19, I cannot imagine that we will be able to get back to working any time soon. I am fortunate to have a full time job in costuming, but I also rely financially on my ability to pick up side gigs and freelance work. Right now, I can’t do either. For many in these industries, their work is strictly project to project and they’re all equally anxious- if not more so- to get back to work and earning a paycheck. We don’t know what the future of our industries will look like, when we’ll get back, and how many of us will even be able to go back. That is why it is imperative that Congress extend Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation. Kampala Harris and Dianne Feinstein, please fight to Extend FPUC. Be an Arts Hero and Save the Arts economy! — To my fellow Arts workers, please consider joining this photo challenge created by @beanartshero 1) Post a photo of you at work 2) Caption with the last date you worked. 3) Add “Extend FPUC. Some days you throw on a flower crown and pretend you’re a forest nymph. Taking a break on my feed from fashion and masks and the sort to share something else that I’ve been doing during quarantine- walks and nature photography. My dog and I have been taking more long walks, and exploring the beautiful neighborhoods around the apartment. Much to Rhett’s annoyance, I like to stop and snap photos along our route. I am by no means a professional photographer, though it has been something I’ve enjoyed and was passionate about for many years. I’ve just been enjoying capturing little moments each day of beautiful things I see. “For observing nature, the best pace is a snail's pace.” 🐌🌼 https://www.instagram.com/p/B_7lquvDYu9/?igshid=fqoa3z6fn76e

Today is my 8 year anniversary as a Disneyland Cast Member. Exactly one month ago I worked my last shift before the park closed and in one week I will be furloughed. To say my emotions are high would be a serious understatement, but I’m mostly trying to focus on the positive. Because if anyone would have told that little girl in the blue dress with the Mickey Mouse crown on her head even half of the wonderful adventures she’d one day have working at the Happiest Place on Earth, she would have been amazed! Like most people, I have my ups and downs at work. There are some things that frustrate me immensely and there are things that make me feel the utmost pride. One thing is for sure, this time away has made me realize how deeply I miss my job, the work that I do, and the people I work with. In my 8 years with the company, I have met some of my best friends. I’ve learned so much about costuming and entertainment. I have worked countless shows, events, and hours. And I’ve created so many memories that will stay with me for a lifetime. I’m not sure what the future holds, but I am certain that these past 8 years have changed me for good. (at Disneyland California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-7W520jMUk/?igshid=zote7ngu4uza

Yesterday, Clare Waight Keller announced that she would be stepping down as Artistic Director for Givenchy. The news came by way of a heartfelt post on her Instagram and left the fashion industry stunned. Currently, no successor has been named nor has Waight Keller announced what is next for her. Clare was the first woman to hold the highest title at the French fashion house. In a release following Waight Keller’s announcement, chairman and CEO of LVMH, Sidney Toledano, stated, “I want to warmly thank Clare Waight Keller for her contribution to Givenchy’s latest chapter. Under her creative leadership, and in great collaboration with its ateliers and teams, the maison reconnected with the founding values of Hubert de Givenchy and his innate sense of elegance.” What have been some of your favorite designs from Clare Waight Keller in her time at Givenchy? Here is my take on the rose dress from the Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. It’s been a while since I’ve put my illustrating skills to use, but I feel like this was a wonderful warm up! I grabbed all of my art supplies and basically just used whatever looked good. Primary mediums are colored pencils and Prismacolor markers, with a splash of glitter glue 😅! Sky’s been a bit gloomy these days, so the lighting might be off on the shot of my drawing, but I didn’t want to color correct it and get too far from reality. I had a lot of fun with this challenge and look forward to the next #McQueenCreators prompt! 🌹 https://www.instagram.com/p/B-qYPaOjBsb/?igshid=mmgg9trfwgbt

Along with her successful singing career, Selena Quintanilla was also a talented fashion designer. Before her untimely passing in 1995, she founded her own design line and had opened two clothing boutiques in Texas. Her iconic purple jumpsuit was one of Selena’s original designs, and was made in her favorite color. It was worn during what would be her last major concert at the Houston Astrodome on February 26, 1995. The glittery jumpsuit features bell bottoms and rhinestone broches at the side of both knees and at the front of the removable jacket. It is now on permanent display at the Selena Museum in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. (at Astrodome) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-JC98UjmBR/?igshid=15rqwkwrcckmk

This year, I decided to celebrate my 30th birthday with a 1990s themed party! Who better to channel than La Reina herself, Selena? Like many other littler girls, Latina and otherwise, Selena was such an inspiration for me growing up. Every year in elementary school, I’d sing a Selena song for the talent show. I did a biography report on her in 4th grade. And I always dreamed of wearing the beautiful, sparkly outfits I’d seen her wear on stage. Fast forward twenty plus years- I finally made that dream a reality! The biggest shoutout to Wall Fabric in DTLA for having the most PERFECT fabric for this look! 💜✨🌹 (at Wall Fabric) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-FHyQcD8Oj/?igshid=1ah9ewnnl9vrf

“In the new film, [Ariana] DeBose swishes through ‘America’ in a golden handmade dress with scarlet ruffles beneath, but the actor says she was haunted—and daunted—by the violet swirls of the woman who originated the part on screen. ‘I grew up watching the film and I just fell in love with the woman in the purple dress,’ she says. ‘Even before I really understood what the story was about, I knew that I loved what she was doing. As I grew up, I discovered who she was and her name was Rita Moreno, and she looked like me. She was one of the first women onscreen that actually had skin color that was close to mine—especially in a film made at that time, where there weren’t many women of color on the screen. That was very influential on me during my childhood’... DeBose’s presence adds a new dimension to her character’s unshakable faith in a country that has so often failed people like her. ‘The way that I see Anita, she is the consummate optimist,’ she says. ‘She believes in the American dream. And she believes in her right as a woman to pursue it. There’s something really amazing about not only Anita, but women in general who constantly find a way to see the world—not with rose-colored glasses—but with hope.’” — Excerpt and first look photos from @vanityfair Costume Design by @paultazewell https://www.instagram.com/p/B9zB6fDjgGG/?igshid=35o732z8ykgn

“Rita Moreno won a best supporting actress Oscar for playing Anita in the original film, and, at 88, has returned to play a different role in Spielberg’s project. Remember Doc, the old-timer who ran the corner store that served as neutral ground for the gangs? Moreno plays a new character, Valentina, Doc’s widow, who’s also a peacemaker—although perhaps a little tougher. The actor says Spielberg and Kushner “really wanted to right some…should I say wrongs? I don’t know if that’s…yes, that’s fair, because the [1961] film had a lot of things that were wrong with it, aside from the fact that it had a lot of things that were very right.” One of the wrongs, she says, was that she was one of the few Puerto Ricans in the cast. “That’s what they were trying to fix and ameliorate, and I think they have done an incredible job.” — Excerpt and first look photos from @vanityfair https://www.instagram.com/p/B9zBp94DTtX/?igshid=1wh55lldvp0vr

“Could we not dye it red at least? White is for babies! I will be the only there in a white dress.” — Vanity Fair has shared first looks for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story. Newcomer Rachel Zegler takes on the role originated onscreen by Natalie Wood, with Ansel Elgort playing the Tony to her Maria. In these production stills, we catch glimpses of Paul Tazewell’s costumes for the rival Sharks and Jets in the “Dance at the Gym” scene. Much like the original film, it seems to be a vibrant and boisterous atmosphere for the young lovers to first meet, and for Maria to stand out in her iconic white dress. West Side Story opens in theaters on October 18, 2020. https://www.instagram.com/p/B9zAjwoD5Y4/?igshid=60e2tocl7ej9

Warning: Incoming Sappy Friend Post! This time three years ago I helped open some shows for Food & Wine Festival with @hlblack and I’m sure if we knew then what we know now, we would have thought that was a piece of cake! 😅 Hannah, I am honored to have been able to open several more shows with you since then, especially this behemoth that has been Magic Happens. I know I’ve told you this already, but it wouldn’t be legit unless I embarrassed you on the socials- I am just so damn proud of you! You’ve helped lead our team with such grace and passion and I’ve loved watching you level up as a Costumer! From loopy elevator rides to the workroom, to deeply profound conversations in the car, and many *many* trips to Starbucks, I’m glad that I had both a friend and leader in you by my side during this journey. Here’s to any other adventures the throw our way...and hopefully some more champagne-filled evenings at billionaire residences! 💜✨ (at Sheats-Goldstein Residence) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9Vww5KD-g6/?igshid=p7xqhpc6nrb4

“90-plus performers in vibrant costumes will soon bring the “Magic Happens” parade to life when it debuts in Disneyland park on Feb. 28. This all-new daytime spectacular celebrates moments of magic that are at the heart of so many Disney stories.” “To help Mickey open this stunning parade are Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip ‘n Dale, along with a group of eclectic and contemporary dancers. These performers, known as “magic makers,” represent stylized aspects of “Disney magic” – from beauty to strength and everything in between. Magic is there any time a pumpkin becomes a carriage, or a sword is plucked from a stone.” 💜✨ (at Disneyland) https://www.instagram.com/p/B85hYNjDnjw/?igshid=fvvrq2v7y5jh

Had to share one last look from Oscars night! It was a tough decision, but ultimately I’m a sucker for Oscar de la Renta and behind the scenes tidbits, so Scarlett Johansson’s gown took the coveted spot! Plus, it allowed me to sneak in another one of my fave looks from the night (slide to find out which one)! The custom pewter gown with fringe bodice was a collaboration between Johansson’s stylist, Molly Dickson, and Oscar de la Renta’s creative director, Fernando Garcia. According to the fashion house’s Instagram page, “the intricately hand-draped corset and bias-cut skirt represent over 300 hours of craftsmanship.” 🤩 (at The Oscars) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ffo-wDViN/?igshid=ju8xks1b36tk

Baby’s first Oscars and he did not disappoint! Pride is not the word I’m looking for! 👏🏽 Anthony Ramos was exactly the exciting menswear I was looking for on the red carpet last night. Styled by Ilaria Urbinati in Dolce & Gabanna, his ensemble was a little bit old school, a little bit new school, and a whole lot of suave! Can’t wait to see what the year brings for him and his wardrobe once things kick off for In the Heights! 🇵🇷 (at The Oscars , Hollywood) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8aerDkjg8p/?igshid=1df2uq6ax7423
