I decided to look into anime and manga art styles this past week, focusing on Fruits Basket. I started watching Fruits Basket in 2021, and after finishing the first two seasons, season three was released later that year. While I waited for season three to release, I watched the 2001 version and started to read the mangas. I noticed how different each of the art styles is from the other. The newest one was obviously my favorite, because it somewhat stuck to the style, while upgrading it in other ways.
Own thing that the original illustrator or Artist, Natsuki Takaya, did was make the eyes larger than normal animes and give them softer features with longer bodies. When the anime was created in 2001, they took those pictures and did great at copying her style for the animation, and her color schemes. She used a lot of pastel colors. When the 2019 version was released, it was a little duller, with more of the trauma being met.
I want to see that happen in my own artwork

I feel like my biggest struggle drawing lately has been the lack of motivation. It is something you have to feel and I think that’s one thing I like a lot about anime style art is, because you can see the characters' emotions in the mangas as well as in the animes. It has been very hard for me to capture characters emotions in my drawings. I try to capture them in the eyes, but that’s the closest I have gotten.
I started trying to give more facial expressions, and realized that artists have to work really hard and study a face a bit to know how to just draw a facial expression. I think that the art style that they use, really helps to bring out overwhelmed, sad, or a happy sad emotion. The artist draw tears, they make the little whites shake in their eyes, and crinkle the eyebrows down. It helps to really express what a character or drawing is feeling

Something that has been very difficult, while watching people draw lately, is just how easily some of it comes. They have drawn things like this so many times that they do not need to draw the shapes out as circles and rectangles first. They just kind of understand how the body and face should look because they have been drawing it for so long.
No matter how many times I draw the same angles and faces, I still need to do rough sketches in order to draw something accurately. I follow multiple people that I see drawing people with great anatomy, and they do it with such ease.
I hope I can master that one day, but the more I try, the less easy it is. I wonder if there is a trick to drawing anime characters eyes and I just haven’t figured out what it is yet.
I am now on a mission to figure out how to draw people, and have ease in doing so.

I decided to change up how I was doing my aliens and monsters, by adding white detailing in their eyes that would normally be a glare, and shaping it into something related to the elements, and things surrounding each alien.
I think it helps to make it look more anime styled, and I am even thinking about adding some background designs similar to the ones you would see with the Zodiacs in Fairy Tail. I want to have that magical aura around all of my characters.
I will be posting the aliens and monsters sometime this weekend as well as two new aliens.
I have also been working on some Fruits Basket art, and a mixed piece with multiple anime men from different animes. I am excited to drop them over the next week or two! I have been getting some inspiration from watching Kuroko’s Basketball and Kamisama Kiss.
I love the colors and style of Kamisama Kiss, it’s so majestic! I am excited to drop some Tomeo inspired art.
Stay tuned over the next week or two!😋

I have been very indecisive lately, as far as drawing in different anime art styles. I really wanted to put a spin on my aliens with a more white accent, because it is something that really helps anime art pop. I want to make the eyes glow, like in Horimiya. I have also been thinking about adding a light shading behind the characters to really make them pop after finishing that anime.
I think I want to redo some of them in digital art styles, so I can add more details to the drawings that really glow. I want to see the difference in drawing in a classic art style, versus in a digital style. I have a really hard time drawing as well on my IPad, but I know I need to practice more to get better at it.
I will be posting the finished pieces over the next few days to a week for everyone to see♥️

I have been working on a new alien/monster drawing for my best friend. I was doing one based on her looks, personality, interests, etc. and I’m currently in a slump.
I kind of have the basics down for it, but I feel like I’m missing her spark. One thing I really admire about anime are is how they always make the emotions and interests sparkle. I love how they have their favorite colors and animals.
I really want to get to that point that I can draw the spark and people see it. If I keep studying and working toward it, I am sure I will find the secret.
I feel really inspired by the zodiacs in Fairy Tail to do it. I love how the keys, Lucy’s outfits, and the zodiac spirits compliment each other. As well as when they change to no longer being her spirits, they change physical forms.
I cannot wait to reach my goal with these pieces.

I finished these for right now! I’m excited at the end of the day, but I have plenty more to go.
This has been an amazing experience to try out alcohol markers in a whole new way. I attempted some blending and you can see what shades work together and which do not.
I love the anime style for my aliens. I got the idea when I was watching some of the styles that they did in JJK, with the demons. I chose a less dark, more beautiful approach, and I love how each came out.
I will be trying plenty more styles, including more dark art. Stay tuned for the lovely ride of anime styles. I will be taking some notes from Junji Ito’s art style.

Current painting I’m working on is an animated Cerberus, based on my Pitbull’s features. Her main three personalities. It needs plenty of work, but I have started Bungo Stray Dogs, and just felt inspired to do an anime.
I also got pretty deep into Fruits Basket because it’s my favorite anime, and I love how they portray the different emotions on each dogs face. I will change some facial features as I continue painting.
I really enjoy getting some anime inspiration after I have been drawing a lot of aliens and people. I try to change up my art work and materials, which is hard because I’m not a huge fan of painting. I think my go to art supplies would be alcohol markers or just pencils. I do plan on posting some digital pieces I’m working on soon.
Every time I try to draw animals, I struggle with facial expressions, so I really love seeing how anime does it, because I know the details must be hard. I think Black Bird and Kamisama Kiss do a great job of expressing feelings issuing facial features in their mangas. I need to work on that as well.

I am a huge fan girl when it comes to anime and manga art. My ideal job would be a graphic novelist, so I study all styles of anime, and love seeing other people draw popular animes in their style. I repost everything anime and manga related.
My all time favorite style is probably something like Jujutsu Kaisen or Black Lagoon. I love drawing in chibi art styles, but I don’t like their look, they are just fun to draw. I really enjoy the more realistic anime art style, like the previously mentioned.
Gekiga is an exaggerated art style and is fun to draw in. I also enjoy seeing peoples Jidaimono art style; which is commonly more traditional Japanese outfits and colors. My favorite art style to draw in currently is kenmonomimi which is like humans with animalistic features (like Tomoe in Kiamisama Kiss). It’s satisfying to see and draw.
You’re bound to see plenty of drawings, because I’m slightly obsessed with anime and mangas.

My whole heart belongs to Fruits Basket. The art is so unique and beautiful.
I think a lot about that Fruits Basket story where the onigiri (rice ball) thinks its plain and bad with nothing special about it
but everyone else actually admires it because of the delicious plum on its back that it can’t see
anyway, I’m going on a second date with a girl soon and couldn’t help but think “Why would she want to keep going out with me?? I’m like, so weird and a little crazy.”
but then I remembered that there is also a plum on my back that I can’t see and that people often like others for reasons we don’t recognize in ourselves. Be kind to yourself. There’s always something good about someone– however little we remember it.
