My first work towards my story art project for BA2a. The first page shows an exercise in shot composition and perspective drawing using a floor plan. On the right is a rough floor plan of my room at my student accommodation building. Beside it to the left is a sketch of the perspective shown by the V shape on the floor plan. I found this exercise quite useful in demonstrating how a floor plan can be used to assist in creating accurate shots for a storyboard or animation.
Following this, I began working on a very loose thumbnail storyboard based on the script we have been assigned for this project. Also on the first page are some practice sketches of the two characters featured in the script, one that was assigned with the project (left), and another which I designed myself (right). I opted for a simplistic design with a silhouette that would be easily distinguishable from the first character.
On the second page are my first pass at thumbnail sketches of each shot. We were asked to keep to one panel per shot, though I have not kept to this rule perfectly. I found this somewhat difficult, specifically I struggled to translate the shots I had in mind to paper and each shot took some time to draw. In future I would look to improve the speed and looseness of my drawings in order to quickly get my ideas on paper. I definitely think I should have spent less time worrying about shading and detail at this stage, this is something I will try to work on going forward.
