My final animation is titled ‘Pickles’; it follows my characters daily activities around the house. I have created this frame by frame animation using photoshop and have compiled the videos in Premiere Pro. I also used Premiere Pro to add the audio on top of the video.  I have tried to maintain the same colour palette throughout my whole animation to help it flow and depict the same mood throughout. I used the same walk cycle to place my character in different locations and to make sure that my character looked consistent throughout the animation. I decided to choose upbeat/ happy music for my animation as that was the mood I was hoping to portray through my work.

I have combined my two previous animations to create a longer sequence. I have had to flip the second part to make the animations line up.

I have animated a title card for my final piece- I have decided to name my animation Pickles, named after my character, I am planning on fading the title card in and then out again at the beginning of my animation.

By combining my concept art as well as my previous animation study, I have managed to create a more finalized animation of my character interacting with its surroundings. I have used Photoshop to create this frame-by-frame animation. I used my previous cat jumping animation as a template for this animation and by studying and creating a more anatomically cat animation it has helped me understand basic movements for my more stylized character. The animation principle that I am demonstrating here is the use of Arcs- I have studied the way that cats move and jump and created an animation which is accurate to that.

Using my own reference video, I have created a simple animation of a cat stretching. Although this is not my final character, creating this animation has been beneficial to me as it will help me when it comes to animation my own character.

I have filmed/ taken pictures of my own cats as part of my research for my project. Collecting this primary research has allowed me to have a better understanding of how to animate my own character as it has helped me understand proportions as well as movement.

I have created some concept art featuring my final character- these will help me when it comes to animating as I now have some ideas on potential storylines I could animate. I have also been able to practice and improve on my drawing of the character which has been beneficial to me. I have also considered the principle of appeal and how to make a character more appealing to the audience. Instead of creating a realistic cat character I have decided to create a more simplistic and ‘cuter’ looking cat to make it more visually appealing and entertaining for the viewer. I have also created a character profile and given my character traits and qualities that I will keep in mind when it comes to animating.

For my character design, I started off with very simple outlines of my character to understand what works well and what does not. I experimented using different colour palettes as well as slightly different proportions and art styles. I finally came to the conclusion that out of all of my designs, I preferred the ones which featured a lighter colour palette as it suits my characters personality the best. The colours I have used are very soft colours; Pink and white are often associated with purity, kindness, as well as love- all traits that suit my character.

I have completed a series of simple sketches which have allowed me to develop and create an idea for my character. I have looked at various different poses as well as expressions to help me understand how I am going up to animate my character later on. I started my character designs with random pen marks on a page, I then drew characters over the pen marks based on what I saw in the shape. This helped me to refine and create a rough plan for my character as it helped me narrow it down to a cat. I have played around with different colour palettes as well as slightly different art styles to see which one suits me best and which one will work well when it comes to animating it.
