Chairs to Share with Jes and Bible

I've watched the interview and found both the interview and their dynamic very interesting.

They talk about how Jes joined Be on Cloud for the project and that it started from the cat food ad where Pond saw him working with Bible.

He accepted because he saw the outstanding production that were looking very much like western shows and movies and felt like the lakorns he was doing didn't have that. This is kind of my point when I say give BOC time, accept the changes because they know what they are doing. If actors like Jes join this company because of the products they ultimately produce and also feel comfortable in the environment, that says a lot. People always talk in the industry and if BOC was as bad a company as many fans make them out to be, seasoned actors with constant work, wouldn't leave the safe money of lakorns and join them. This is a huge compliment for BOC and I don't think fans, especially those who always have something to complain about, realise.

BOC makes sure that the quality of what they put out is always top notch. But they also take care of their actors and staff. they reduced the hierarchies on set, they made working hours on set family friendly, they don't deduct money from the jobs the artists accept on their own and we know that Pond personally sent Bas to therapy when he couldn't shake his role in Man Suang. All of these things are huge and not common at all. So fans complaining about the time it takes to produce a show or a lack of fanmeets complain about things that affect them, not the actors. So BOC might be a company that doesn't focus on the fans, but on their work and their artists, which in my books is a great thing.

Bible talks about how hard this un certainty was, not knowing if "his project" would ever be realised.

I also think they have very much the same energy on camera and seem to get along well. It's nice to see.

I am not sure when the Engsubs will come, so far there are none.

Know everything better

Are hateful in any way

Don't respect both Mile & Apo or their career choices and wishes

Best is to ignore, block and report if you stumble across haters. Be aware that however unfair you think they are or how much bullshit they spread, they want your attention. Simple as that. So it's most effective and unnerves them the most if they scream into the void.

Step 3: Have fun! Being a fan should be fun! If it stops being fun for you it's better to find something that is fun instead of staying out of obligation and make yourself miserable!

Man Suang (& Shine) Meta Doc

Hello! As promised, I'm back for another round of archiving. Since Man Suang's rolling Netflix release on Thurs, I've been keeping an eye out for meta related to the movie.

So what is Mile's part? He will most likely star in the MV. But I personally guess that's not all, seeing that BOC Music icon at the corner. I think he either played the guitar as well, which is quite prominent in the later half of the song and/or he is the head behind a new music label by BOC.

Update: BOC was the copyright of music and song recording, so it's not about the MV only.

Queerbaiting claims of BL fans

Queerbaiting has become a prevalent term in recent years, particularly in the context of popular media. It is the act of teasing or hinting at queer representation in a work of media, such as a TV show, movie, or book, to attract a queer audience, but ultimately failing to deliver on that representation. This sends the message that queer representation is unimportant or not valuable. While queerbaiting is not a new phenomenon, it has gained attention in recent years due to social media, which has given fans a platform to express their disappointment loudly and oftentimes hatefully.

Creators who use queer representation as a marketing tool without the intention of following through on that representation can frustrate fans, leading to the rise of the term queerbaiting. For example, popular shows like Sherlock, Merlin, Supernatural, and The Witcher have been accused of queerbaiting. 

However, some fans of Boys' Love (BL) shows on social media make false claims of queerbaiting when things do not go their way with actors and their sexuality. They may accuse actors who are not romantically involved with their on-screen partners or who identify as straight of queerbaiting.

It is crucial to differentiate between actors playing gay characters despite being straight in real life and the act of queerbaiting. Actors are professionals who portray a range of characters, regardless of their sexual orientation. Their sexuality has no impact on their ability to play a character with a different sexuality. In contrast, queerbaiting refers to teasing queer relationships and not following through on the representation promised.

In the case of BL shows, the actors are already delivering queer representation on screen by playing their roles. Thus, the accusation of queerbaiting is baseless, additionally since BL series are mainly aimed at a straight female audience.

However, the fanservice provided by actors for BL shows might be part of the reason for the confusion. The mixing of the actors' on-screen and off-screen personas, fueled by fanservice and added on by parasocial relationships, can lead to misunderstandings and false accusations of queerbaiting.

An example of the false use of queerbaiting concerning western media, is the case of Kit Connor, the actor who played Nick on "Heartstopper". The show, a gay teen romance, delivers queer relationships and representation and even promotes understanding, coming out on ones own terms and the like. It even caters to all queer representation. And yet, fans of the show accused the young actor of queerbaiting when he was seen holding hands with a female. Things got so bad online that he felt the need to out himself online as bi, something he wouldn't have done without the immense online pressure and hate he received. So the term queerbaiting is used wrong two times here, since it's aimed at someone who has played a gay character and also belongs to the queer community.

A BL example, is Mew Suppasit, the actor who played in TharnType. He recently revealed that his off-screen relationship with on-screen partner Gulf was purely fanservice and that he had never been romantically involved with Gulf. He also stated, that he had been in relationships with other people and was currently in a serious relationship with someone he intends to marry. Some fans accused him of queerbaiting, even though he did not fail to deliver a queer relationship on screen to attract a queer audience. 

It is also worthy to point out, that Mew has been one of the first actors in the BL world who uttered that "gender does not matter" when asked after his own sexuality, even though he has never explicitly come out in any way. He is, however, considered to have been outed by his former on screen partner Art in a scandal that ended their working relationship. Back then Art was viciously attacked for outing Mew against his will, when now Mew is being attacked for "queerbaiting".

In both cases, there is also an entitlement felt by shippers/fans that the actors "owe" them the information and definition of their sexuality. If that is then not what fans want and or the question remains unanswered, then the mainly straight female fans, lash out at the actors for being in a straight relationship or for not being in love with their work partner.

In conclusion, the term queerbaiting can only be applied to a show that explicitly markets to a queer audience and fails to deliver the promised queer representation. Since a BL show, by definition, HAS to deliver in order to be called BL and also markets to a straight female audience, it is therefore impossible to be guilty of queerbaiting.

It is always crucial though, to differentiate between actors' on-screen and off-screen personas, what fans also fail to do. So the issue is not the claim of using queerbaiting as a concept to promote fiction, but that the term is a used a buzz word to complain about a real person's sexuality or choice of real life partner.

What the marketing departments of the studios of BL shows could be accused of, is "slashbaiting"; a term Joseph Brennan proposes in his study from 2018, meaning letting down fans of real people slash or rps as it is known in the fanfiction world, where it is seen as highly controversial, because people there are aware that they are making up stories about real people and their love life. 

Sadly, BL fans seem oftentimes unable to realise the lack of distinction on their part between role, marketing strategy and real life of the actor.

sMile Day 2024

Today was the birthday celebration event for Mile. He was accompanied by Mama Rom and P'Man and the dress code was white & red.

Meanwhile Apo posted a throwback picture from the BOC Countdown Event. Outfit colors very fitting.

And at one point Mile showed what he bought while they were in Disneyland Hong Kong last year. A pride Minnie Mouse. (He thought it was Mickey)
