Moving Pets Overseas: Issues to Ponder On
Tumblr media
Moving Pets Overseas: Issues to Ponder On
youtube
There are lots of guidelines and issues you should follow and take into consideration when moving your pets overseas.
The first thing you have to know is if your pet will be allowed in that destination. Keep in mind that some countries do not allow pets to be brought in. For those who do, they require a health certificate from your veterinarian. Included in the certificate are records that show that your pet is rabies-free and has been vaccinated.
Once you got all these, you also need to know the duration with which the permit will remain valid. If it is only good for a few months, then you can inquire where you can get the following entry permits so that you will not violate any of the laws in the country.
Breed and age are also a major consideration. There are countries that require pets to be quarantined for a period of time before they are brought to their owners. This is because there is some breed of animals that are considered safe and some are not. The best thing to do is check with the consulate of that country so you will know the specifications that they have regarding quarantine.
If all these are not enough to cause you headaches, the cost will. The fee for quarantine in that country is charged to you. If your pet is required to be placed in a quarantine facility, make sure that you check out that certain first before agreeing.
Check out the cleanliness of the area, the care they provide and the staff that will cater to your pet’s needs. Oftentimes, there are a number of facilities available around the country. If you were given the option of choosing one, opt for the best one you can find. It will be your assurance that your pet will remain safe and in capable hands.
It can be noted that there are a lot of issues regarding the transport of pets from one country to another. One issue is about the sedation that is given to these animals in order for them to be boarded on planes.
Many animal deaths are attributed to the effects that sedation can cause. If you feel that you pet is capable of being transported without any incident, you must therefore inform the veterinarians about this. They are not really required to use sedation in case some pets show good behavior and obedience during the course of the transport.
Another issue that veterinary associations are concerned about is the pressure of the confined spaces and altitude that the animals are subjected to if they are boarded in airplanes.
There are animals that do not easily adapt the chance in their usual environment. If you feel that your pet is not acting like its usual self, seek the help of a veterinarian immediately. They will be able to tell you the cause of that behavior and may even require some medications to counter them.
The rules and regulations, along with the effects of the transport are enough reasons to discourage your from moving your pets overseas. But if you think of the alternative of never seeing your pet again, then all these measures will be worth it once you and your pet have finally settled down in your new home.

Giving Your Pet A Proper Adoption
Tumblr media
Giving Your Pet A Proper Adoption
Tumblr media

There is a severe overpopulation of cats and dogs roaming the streets all over the world. Some animals that are not getting proper care and are being abused by their owners tend to escape from their mistreated homes and tend to wander off on their own.
Because of this situation, there are now lots of domesticated animals that are caught and placed on animal shelters or dog pounds, just waiting for someone to adopt them. However, there are lots of municipal shelters that can no longer adopt this great number of abused or abandoned pets, so they just kill them.
In general, pets are great companions and friends. Like the dogs, they are very loyal and friendly and can be used to safeguard our homes. They can act as our friends and can provide us with lots of entertainment and love.
On the other hand, we have our feline friends. Cats are not so demanding. All you have to give them is a clean litter box; a little affection and they will be satisfied. And in return, these pets will give their loyalty and companionship to you.
Some pet owners don’t really abuse their pets; they give their pets away because they love them too much. The reason why pet owners sometimes have to give away their pets is that they are afraid that they could not provide the best care for them. The owner of the pet will look for the right person that will adopt their pet and leave them in good hands. They sometimes go to their relatives and friends and ask for help.
If the owners cannot find a suitable person to adopt their pet, there are institutions and organizations that are established to adopt pets that has strictly no killing policies.
Here are some of the several pet shelters here you can entrust your pets.
1. The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) – you can find this in the East Hampton Pine Barrens. They rescue those pets that cannot be taken cared of by the owners. The goal of the ARF is to lessen the number of pets that do not have shelters or homes. They provide a sufficient amount of food and a good shelter as well as medical care..
2. Bide-a-Wee – this has three shelters that can be found in Wantagh, Westhampton and Manhattan. They keep animals in their shelter, until they can find a new home. You can take your per here if you do not want them anymore. They got a big area where the pets can roam a round. As a matter of fact, Bide-a-Wee has two pet memorials, just goes to show how much they love animals.
3. Grateful Paws Cat Adoption Center – they rescue the cats from the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter. From here, the cats are being brought to the Grateful Paws Adoption Center. So if you are planning to give your pet to them, you must bring it first to the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter so that it will reach the Grateful Paws Adoption Center.
4. Kent Animal Shelter – they never kill pets, as much as possible, they want all pets to be healthy. They give protection to those pets that are abandoned, abused and homeless.
5. Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Rescue Center – They provide shelter and care for all pets. Keeping them in their folds until a new owner can be found.
Just a few reminders, before bringing your pets to the shelters mentioned above, make sure that you contact them first so that you will know if your pet can be accommodated or not and there are certain procedures that needs to be followed, so you can inquire about those procedures at the same time.

The Good Things Pet Cats Bring
Tumblr media
youtube
As man’s best friend except for his dogs, cats have been a part of every family, be it poor, middle class or the super rich. Reasons of having pets such as these domesticated animals and other animals are mainly relative depending on the owner. For some, it is because they are inevitably- animal lovers, for others, they feel relaxed. And, for most, these make them happy.
Despite the advancement of technology, people will never find an alternative to the joys given to them by their pet cats. There are numerous benefits when one has pet or pets especially when you choose to have cats.
More than the activities they could share with you; pet cats are great source of comfort. It was found out in a study that pets like cats would be very helpful for the aged people. Most of them are in the dark age of their lives. All the fears and insecurities are there. At an old age, other people younger than you seem not to pay that much attention. Having a pet would enable you to touch, be touched and feel how it is to pamper somebody is. The activities they could share like walking around or having some jogging would be very healthful too.
Animals, especially these cuddly and affectionate cats as pets also keep us feel far from being lonely and bored. We could talk to them and express our deepest emotions, the words we could not tell to our fellow humans. Dogs and cats, also other animals, are now being trained and so they learn to do tricks and to entertain people. They are so playful and they could unravel the child in us. As a form of emotional outlet, they could ease stress and make us feel more relaxed.
Every pet could provide you with different positive feelings. Birds and fish are so attention-catching. Looking at them would get you feel at peace without exerting too much effort. Staring at fish in an aquarium or pond gives one the peace of mind and the relaxation against a stressful time. These pets could also help you build the focus or concentration you need to start a task or the like.
Humor is the best medicine. Animals are great source of it. Having pets at home gives you free shows. Yes, just looking at them would make you feel fun. Their actions are animated; they act and move so funny without the risk of hurting other emotions unlike people-comedians.
It is undeniably true that pets are saviors; they stretch our lips to smile, stretch our patience, stretch our peace of mind… and in the end, stretch the length of our lives. They give people relief and refuge. Having them around would give you a happier life and a happier life would be your ticket to a better self- in and out… a longer life ahead of you.

Hero Pets

Hero Pets
Tumblr media

The storybooks abound with tales of heroic pets, and the amazing deeds they performed to save their masters from danger, or protect innocent children from harm. The classic TV series Lassie featured the classic “heroic” family dog, seemingly saving disaster-prone Timmy from a new and horrific fate in each episode. But few of us have personally been saved by a pet, or know a close friend who has. You almost have to wonder if such hero pets are just a topic for fiction writers, or if such animals really do save lives on a daily basis around the world.
As it happens, not only do hero pets really exist, but a number of organizations even collect their stories and recognize the outstanding cases for their deeds. Readers Digest magazine has a long standing “Hero Pets” feature, including stories of dogs and cats who have roused their families in time to escape from house fires, saved children from being attacked by animals, and many other admirable feats. Purina maintains their Animal Hall of Fame for Canadian hero pets, cataloging the most admirable stories submitted each year. Their immortalized heros include a dog who alerted his owner to her undiagnosed cancer in time to successfully treat it.
Hero pets also exist in far more day-to-day circumstances, especially in the ranks of trained aid and guide animals. A trained assistance dog can alert an epileptic owner of an impending seizure in time for the human to safely deal with the situation, or alert a diabetic or hypoglycemic person of a dangerous fluctuation in their blood sugar before serious damage occurs. Family dogs are renowned for not allowing harm to come to the family children, although unlike Lassie they’re more likely to protect their charges by staying with them in dangerous situations than running home to fetch their parents.
Does every beloved pet have the capacity to become a hero? A lucky owner will never be in a situation to find out, and it’s quite possible that not all animals possess the honed instincts or extreme loyalty to perform the greatest heroic feats. However, even the most pedestrian of pets still have the capacity to perform “everyday heroics,” like keeping their people company during times of stress and sadness, actually helping to lower their humans’ blood pressure and even prolong their lives, and helping to teach children loyalty and responsibility in ways their parents can’t. Perhaps every pet is a hero, whether we recognize it or not!

Best Places to Look for Exotic Pets
Tumblr media
Best Places to Look for Exotic Pets
youtube
Exotic pets are special pets. You can’t buy it in common pet shop or similar place. You can only find these in equally special places. These animals grow in the wild and the jungles, mostly.
If you are really bent on getting an exotic pet, maybe as a gift or as your personal preference, then you have to go to these places to find one.
1. Check out the internet. The internet is an online store for many things, exotic pets included. Specialty pet shops put their store online to get more customers. If you want to know where to get exotic pets fast and easy, check out your computer. The pet you wanted could be delivered with just a click of a button.
2. Local specialty pet shops. If you can’t find just the right one you are looking for online, you can scout the specialty pet shops within your area. They are sure to have an exotic pet or two. If, unfortunately, there are none like that in there, you can ask for references from them because for sure, they know of somebody, a competitor or otherwise, that are selling exotic species.
3. Veterinarians. Although not all veterinarians sell pets, but if you try to look hard enough, you can find one that has an exotic animal for a pet and is willing to sell it to you. Maybe he acquired it from his last trip to the Caribbean or to South America. Either the case, if he is willing to sell it, you are sure to have a good deal.
4. Rescues and Shelters. Rescues and pet shelter houses would likely have animals placed in their institution. Just in the U.S., there are many places where exotic and not so exotic animals need homes. They would be willing to screen you out and give you the pet that you wanted. These are mostly coming from other people who could have abandoned these pets or didn’t know how to take care of them properly.
These are the common places where you can see some exotic animals. Of course you can also go to an entirely different country to get one. But that shouldn’t be necessary. Common exotic pets such as guinea pigs, iguanas, and turtles should be easy to find. But if you go for snakes, spiders, and skunks, you might just find it a little harder to look for these.

Bringing an Exotic Pet in the House

Bringing an Exotic Pet in the House
Tumblr media

Many people are attracted by exotic pets. It makes them feel unique and different.
People see exotic animals in the movies or television shows and may just decide to have one at home. Now, bringing home an exotic pet will entail more considerations.
What Is an Exotic Pet?
An exotic pet is an unusual animal that is maintained as a pet in the household. The term can cover various kinds of animals. Exotic pets can also be the reptiles like chameleons or iguanas, snakes, tarantulas or fancy birds.
It can also include rodents and ferrets or farm animals like pigs or goats because they aren’t usual pets that are maintained in the house.
Is It Legal to Own Exotic Pets?
State and federal laws can provide restrictions and regulations of animals that aren’t common house pets. For example, ownership of a farm animal in the urban areas like the pig has certain requirements. The house must be big enough to keep it within an enclosure.
There are also animals that can’t be owned because they are banned by state laws. Some states don’t allow the ownership of snakes or monkeys. There are also federal laws that ban the importation of some animals.
The endangered kinds can’t be kept at home also.
Caring and Maintenance
Owning an exotic pet also means bigger responsibility. Exotic pets aren’t typical household companions. They will have peculiar needs and demands that must be met in order to maintain a safe atmosphere in the house and in the neighborhood.
1. The owner must know the basic needs of the pet like the required diet. Some can live on fruits and feeds like rodents and the monkeys. Some have more complicated or expensive foods like snakes or big cats.
2. Second, find a location within the household to maintain the pet. It has to be kept according to its kind. Maintain proper caging. There must be enough space for the animal to move. It must also be strong and sturdy enough to keep it from escaping.
3. Get the right knowledge and training in keeping the exotic pet. There are peculiar behaviors be wary of and the pet might be something that can be trained.
4. Find a willing veterinarian who could give assistance anytime help is needed. This is to ensure that when things get complicated, there is someone to ask help from.
Conclusion
People have different ways of finding happiness. If that happiness depends on owning an exotic pet in the household, then do get one. Just be a responsible owner and things will go smoothly.

Pets - now legally protected
Tumblr media
Pets – now legally protected
Tumblr media

We buy our pets fancy clothes, outlandish designer dog accessories, a custom made pet carrier or jeweled dog collars; often paying more than we would if buying for ourselves. Now the legal profession has become involved to protect our four legged friends.
According to an article in a law review journal (Jarva), one weekend in November 2004, some 200 people convened at Yale Law School with a singular purpose: identifying ways of strengthening animal protection laws through the legislatures and courts. These individuals gathered from across the country and overseas.
There were lawyers, professors, and law students who, like many Americans, are convinced that animals are inherently valuable and deserving of humane treatment. However they go considerably furtherin their belief that all nonhuman animals are equally important and entitled to greater protections under the law.
The article goes further to say that some conference attendees may well balk at the “animal rightist” label, opting for the less inflammatory “animal protectionist” moniker instead. But whatever their ideological nuances, they are the legally savvy wing of a social movement determined on using the courts and legislatures to elevate the status of animals in society.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and Yale Law School sponsored a conference titled “The Future of Animal Law,” held Nov. 5-7. Headquartered in Petaluma, California. ALDF boasts some 100,000 members and has, for the past 25 years, worked for stronger enforcement of anticruelty laws.
The field of animal law has grown dramatically over recent years, and many want it to grow even more. There is a hope thatanimal law be taught in every American Bar Association-accredited law school, that animal law practices abound, and every judge and district attorney be educated about animal law. New laws and new pet meds There is also a longstanding cultural norm against harming animals—the nation’s first anticruelty statute was passed in 1867 in New York with the help of Henry Bergh, founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“A hundred-plus years ago, our legal system recognized that animals are different. They have interests; they can feel pain; and we as a society ought to mitigate that pain, where possible,” observed conference speaker and Michigan State University College of Law professor, David Favre. (Maybe that’s why we spend so much online for pet meds).
It can be argued that many animals in the United States already do have rights, although they are protections in the narrowest sense; anticruelty statutes, for example, criminalize animal abuse. A provision of the federal Animal Welfare Act requires that dogs used for research be given regular opportunities for exercise. The Endangered Species Act protects the Florida panther and other rare wildlife from being hunted to extinction.
For people who enjoy them, pets add enormous value to life. Most pet lovers will tell you that while animals don’t replace the benefits of a healthy human relationship, they supplement life in ways that no other satisfaction can provide. It’s rational for humans to treat pets among their highest values, assuming those pets bring something to the individual human’s life.
That’s one reason new laws are being sought to protect our animals and to recognize the loss one suffers when something bad happens to our pets. And, it is also because of that belief—animals do indeed add to our enjoyment of life—that we indulge our pets by buying a wide variety of specialized (and often extravagant items for Fido and Fluffy.
For many proud pet owners computers have become the pet shopping mall, with everything from jeweled dog collars and nutritious pet food to custom fit pet doors and luxurious dog beds and even a personalized pet memorial – all available online and at the click of a mouse.

Getting Your Pet Through An Animal Rescue Group

Getting Your Pet Through An Animal Rescue Group

Animal rescue organizations or groups offer you a great place to get your next family pet. These groups are all different, but they do have common goals. These groups work hard to locate a permanent loving home for unwanted or misplaced cats and dogs. Many of these rescue groups rely on volunteers and donations to care for these pets while they are between homes.
When you begin looking for a rescue group to work with, you will find that most of these groups do rely on their hard working volunteers and support from the local community to operate. You will also find a wide variety of animals available through these rescue groups. Many of these groups handle all types of animals and you will find kittens, puppies, and even older pets available for adoption. You might be surprised to learn that some groups even offer exotic pets such as reptiles, pot bellied pigs and even guinea pigs.
As you begin looking at pets available through rescue groups, keep in mind some of these animals have had very hard lives. You may find a dog that was abused by its owner. You may find a female cat that has just given birth. Their owners have relinquished many of the animals offered by rescue groups because they are moving or can no longer care for them. In addition, some of these groups take animals that live in kill shelters or as strays living on the streets. Some programs also offer spay and neuter release program for feral cats.
Rescue groups do a good job of screening animals before adopting them out to new homes. They also screen potential pet owners. IF you find a pet offered through a pet rescue group, you will be asked to sign a contract saying that you agree to care for the pet long term. You will also be asked several questions about your home, your children and other pets you may have. This is not to be nosey—it is simply to help match an owner with the right pet. If the animal suffers from a medical condition, such as diabetes, the new owners know this up front before adopting. Having the animal’s health history at the time of adoption helps the animal find a permanent home.
You can gain a lot of personal satisfaction by adopting your next pet through an animal rescue organization. You know you have done something to help and your new pet will show its appreciation. If you are interested in adopting through one of the many rescue organization, it is easy to find one in your area. Your vet can give you the contact information for organizations near you. Most of the time, these pets are kept in private homes (foster homes) until they are adopted. This gives the animal time to be socialized with other pets, children and time to get used to living in a home. Sometimes, animal rescue groups will bring their animals that need homes to pet stores or other locations for interested people to see and meet the animals on certain weekends.
When you choose a pet in a rescue program, be prepared to go through an interview and application process. The organization wants to know these pets will be well cared for the long term. You will probably be asked about other pets you may have, the age of your children, the size of your yard and your thoughts on a cat with claws if you are looking at a cat. This is to help match the pet with the right owner. Adoption fees vary by each organization, but you can expect to pay $100-$200 for a rescued animal. These groups do not make a profit. These fees cover the cost of the animal while it was in the care of the organization. This adoption fee usually covers vaccinations, medical exams, spaying, and neutering.
Getting your next pet through an animal rescue organization is a responsible way to get your next family member. You can also find many volunteer opportunities through these organizations.

Treating Animals with Acupuncture

It has long been known that acupuncture is a great way to treat many disorders and diseases with the alternative therapy that’s called acupuncture. There are a great many benefits to the therapy and it is practiced literally all over the world. Even though there are many questions that need to be raised as to how the whole process works, many people are just fine and satisfied with the fact that they don’t need empirical data in order to see that acupuncture truly works. But one issue that you may not have thought of before is whether or not animals are able to be subject to the same alternative therapy of acupuncture as humans are. This is naturally a delicate issue that many people don’t take lightly, but when it comes to pets living in homes there are also many people who are concerned about the health of their animals. Here is some food for thought when trying to decide if animal acupuncture is the best thing for your pet:
Does Acupuncture Work on Pets?
Just as there are those who say that acupuncture is not a therapy and doesn’t work on humans, the same people are the ones who usually state that acupuncture doesn’t work on pets, either. On the other hand, there are some people who believe in acupuncture for strictly humans and contend that acupuncture doesn’t reach to the animal world. Nevertheless, there is also no real and hard evidence in favor of or to the contrary that animal acupuncture should or should not be practiced. Even though there has been less acupuncture practiced on dogs, cats, and other animals, the fact that the alternative therapy is not usually practiced on animals should shed light on the fact that it doesn’t work, or at least not too well!
Is Acupuncture Practiced on Pets?
Even though the skeptics of acupuncture don’t enjoy the thought of having acupuncture practiced on their beloved pets, it is true that there are some certified acupuncture therapists who will perform an acupuncture therapy on their cats, dogs, and other pets. Just because acupuncture works for humans doesn’t mean that it can’t work for pets, too. On the other hand, there are also those who do practice acupuncture on humans that also say that acupuncture should not be practiced on animals.
Nevertheless, though, some people believe that the same pressure points that can be found on a human can also be found on a dog or a cat. These dogs and cats are also said to have an energy source, such as the Chi in humans, and that energy source is where cats and dogs derive all their pain from. The whole idea, though, of practicing acupuncture on cats and dogs have come directly from those who already currently practice the alternative therapy on humans and themselves. In fact, there have been some cases where practicing acupuncture on pets, including dogs and cats, has worked, but there has not been a substantial number of pets that have been healed by acupuncture, at least in the United States.
When considering having your pet treated with acupuncture, though, all one needs to do is consider the many benefits and downsides to doing so. If one truly is an advocate of acupuncture, though, chances are that he or she will trust it for their pets as well!
