I absolutely looove the writing in ROTS where Anakin narrates what it feels like to be “him” at different sections of his life during the course of the book, and I realized I just had to do my own version for Padmé.

( “This is what it feels like to be Padmé right now… sometimes you are Amidala, other times you are Naberrie, and a lot of times you feel as if your true mold is engraved in the core of the name Skywalker. But right now, you’re just Padmé. You are with child, that is why you remain strong. And you’re also in love, so in love… with the only man who had ever existed before you. The man to whom none other would be worthy to take his place even if centuries were to go by. The man whom understood you, who had mistook you for an angel… but loved you anyway when he realized you were just human.

The man whose love burned across the stars for you, and would tear down the galaxy out of love for you if he had the chance. You shiver at the thought… because you love him too much to see him fall. You thrive and suffer under the weight of his love and passion. Your soul sings to his, he responds in kind. You feel him slipping away, you fear for the fate of his and the fate of others… you long to help, cry to change everything…This destruction destroys you utterly and wholly. Amidala would remain loyal to your duty, as you’ve always been. But Padmé was as a rose who bloomed to rays of the sun striving to blossom into pure beauty, and you know that Anakin was always your sun.

You worry for the others, your colleagues, the Jedi… even Obi Wan… you pray that they are well and safe. But underneath all this… you want to leave behind everything even more. You want to with the love of your life, more than anything. You want to let him play the tunes of your heart as a musician his violin… but you feel him slipping, further and further away from you. And now he stands in front of you, from the tips of your fingers, you hold onto his soft and gentle hands.

The same hands that has always tended to you with such love and care. You longingly gaze into his deep and beautiful blue eyes for which you’ve always admired. Perhaps, looking for something more… maybe it was the absence of his healing smile, or cleansing laughter which never failed to ease your ache. So you continue gazing into him as he promises you, in his soothing voice which was as sweet as honey, of his return. You beg him to come back to you… ‘my love, my love, come back to me.’ But there’s a deeper, more dreadful feeling inside you… it is an echo you don’t want to hear… refusing to search deeper within to acknowledge its existence. So instead you just let it… echo. You trust in him. You believe in his goodness. You let him go, and you trust in him.

This is what it feels like to be Padmé… right now.” )
