In April 2023 my Family plan to go on a vacation where we can refresh and celebrate my Mother’s birthday. I actually suggest to have a vacation there since my Father lives in San Antonio Zambales so we can have a vacation and relatives visit too.

My Mom and Dad were not together so we don’t see each other for long time we can only see our Father if we visit him. Some of us rode a bus to get there it is 4 to 5 hours travel. We are so excited specially me because it is my first time to visit the place specially the beaches added up some excitement when my eldest sister tell us stories on how beautiful the beaches in there and telling us what we can do.

We go straight ahead to little Villa beach resort, since we need to celebrate my mom’s birthday first.

The resort has several cottages made up of Kawayan. There are two big rooms for visitors who want to stay overnight, one is air-conditioned. They call it family room. We choose to have the kawayan cottages, we really love to have this old version of staycation.

I really love the place, I felt peace all over my body. I can say I can relax in this place.

Pundaquit beach is located in San Antonio, Zambales it is my Father’s hometown.

Pundaquit is one of the barangays in San Antonio. In Zambales, when you say Pundaquit, most locals refer to it as beach. Maybe because of the fact that the barangay resides in a coastal area. So when people say “let’s go to Pundaquit,” it’s tantamount to saying “let’s go to the beach.

For someone like me who can simply appreciate the abundance of nature, it will always be a pleasure to see beaches deluge with mountains and trees. Pundaquit doesn’t offer white sand and turquoise-like water, but it proffers natural glow which makes you feel away from pollution and draggy vibe of the city

How could you not be amazed on a scene where sea waves directly hit the rocky mountain’s foot before it reaches the shore? How could you not be mesmerized to the perfect view of sunset?

Pundaquit also serves as terminal point of the tourists hankering to see Anawangin Cove, Nagsasa Cove and Capones Island. From Pundaquit, it takes 30 minutes to reach Anawangin, more than an hour to Nagsasa, and 25 minutes to Capones.

With fine and greyish sand, the sea water is abruptly deep few meters from the shoreline. Resort owners describe it as “biglang lalim” and warn visitors who do not know how to swim not to go farther to avoid any undesirable incidents. It’s not like any other beaches where even if you’re already 10 meters away from the shore, water level remains chest-deep

This is absolutely a perfect beach for swimmers and surfers who look for added adventure during their stay. The primary source of income of people living around the area is fishing. So expect that while you’re swimming, fisherfolks flock in the area taking advantage of the vast sea to catch fish. This scene is very visible in the wee hours of the morning. It somehow benefits picnic goers craving for fresh fish since fisherfolks sell it at very reasonable prices. You can cook, fry or grill freshly catch seafoods.

There is a lot of souvenir shops from locals that we can purchased for our friends and families but also to help people in there to support there living.

The municipality of San Antonio Zambales makes sure that they are doing there best to enhance the beauty of the place.

As I surely love to go back over and over, my hopes are also high that its inhabitants would preserve it as what it is at present and keep the beach untouched by modernity. I believe it is better keep that way.

My Experience as a Senior in High School

All people say high school is the most memorable phase in every teenager’s life. In this stage you will be able to meet new people and experience new things. Which I certainly agree with. My life as a senior high school student was one of the most unforgettable phase in my life. It was at this phase I was able to build and rebuild connection with different individuals.

There are some whom I had already known for a year and more. Since they were either my neighbor, elementary classmates or junior high school classmates. While there are some whom I had no single idea on their personal identity yet. Nonetheless at the end of the day no matter how diverse all our personalities may seem, we are able to find a connection. That had lead us towards creating many good and memorable memories.

For me there are lots of struggles and learnings becoming a senior high school student.

But this experiences provide me more, that I prepares me to face my future.

I’m glad I was able to make it since many teenagers like my age don’t have opportunity to study maybe because of some life struggles like some of us needs to find work to support the family in very young age that it takes away the chance for them to have a brighter future.

I have also struggles too, I have a broken family and since then my Father don’t supports us so my mother is the only one that needs to stand and provide for all of us.

My older siblings don’t have a change to study in college, they all have graduated in High school in old curriculum. My older sister manage to enter college but don’t finish her first year due to financial hardship we are facing. She has now manage to get a job that can help to support the whole family.

My Mother supports us by selling foods in the street. Selling viand in the morning for breakfast and lunch in the afternoon. She also accept orders for catering. And I’m very thankful for that since I see how my mother struggles to do all of this while taking good care for all us.

She is the reason why I try to do my best to be able to achieve my dreams.

There are many things that make my experience has senior high school student thought me, experiences in dealing with many people and to show off my skills and talent.

Studying alone is fine, however studying with a group is much better. In Senior High School I was able to experience studying in a group. From time to time we ask each other questions regarding on the lesson being studied. In order to determine if we are able to familiarize and understand the content of the lesson. We would do a very swift recap of all the notes that we had studied together that made our lesson bearable.

I personally believe that it was the food that had bring us all together. Since all of us live far away from school. Foe that it is a wise decision to bring packed lunch and ate it at school to save money. But since we are all struggling we can’t afford to buy foods on fats food or cafeteria the reason we bring our own food.

I also experience performing, as it was one of the things we need to do for our some subjects.

It is one of the activities within the classroom that I am most excited of I always feel entertained and also to cope my stage fright. I’m not yet comfortable enough to stand in many audiences but I’m still working on that.

I know this stage of my life only prepares me to face the world in the future and all the experience and learnings I have learned in this stage will make me a better person someday.

I’m already in the edge of ending this stage and I know that I can face the next chapter entering to college with the help of my experiences being a senior high school student, friends, love ones and family. I can be the person I want to become in the future.

There will always be trials and struggles that will make it hard for me to achieve my goals, but I also learn that this journey this to have those for us to appreciate the victory we are working for.

I will do my best and give my all to achieve my dreams. I just need to pray that God give my mother more time to be with us so I can make her proud and let her experience my success.

Acknowledging Streetwear Fashion Trends in the Philippines

Fashion is something that people wear to express themselves. That's their way to express their sense of beauty through clothes.

According to New World Encyclopedia (n.d.), “fashion refers to a prevailing mode of expression, whether it be custom, style of dress, speech, or other”. It is a broad concept that extends beyond just clothing.

There are some different types of fashion here in the Philippines, except in cultural influences and historical narratives, contemporary global trends are one of them.

There are different kinds of contemporary global trends, such as Traditional and Korean fashion, including Streetwear fashion.

Streetwear is a style of fashion that originated from skateboarding and hip-hop cultures. Most of the people wearing them are youths, and it has evolved into a global fashion phenomenon.

Streetwear is a blend of global street culture and local sensibilities. It is defined by a style that often features boldness, trendy graphics, and a combination of casual and sportswear.

Most streetwear clothes are much more available at ukay-ukay; besides being high-quality, these items are affordable, especially for young individuals who love wearing streetwear clothes.

Filipino streetwear design combines edgy and street styles with stylish and cleaned details.

Streetwear fashion lovers now have a wide variety of options to choose from due to the development in popularity of vintage and retro styles, vibrant colors, and prints created by local streetwear corporations.

This trend, which appeals to all aspects of preferences and styles, represents the dynamic combination of traditional and contemporary inspirations in Filipino fashion.

Furthermore, the Philippines' fashion industry is putting more of an emphasis on sustainability, transparency, and fair living wages in an effort to develop a global fashion sector that cares about the welfare of both the environment and its employees.

Filipino designers are focusing on ethical production, upcycling waste materials, producing eye-catching alternatives to quick fashion, and increasing the accessibility of artisan-crafted items.

This is in line with international movements calling for a more thoughtful and responsible approach to fashion and represents an increasing focus on ethical and sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

The streetwear fashion in the Philippines or in other countries is not a "disgusting look" because it isn't in your standard of fashion. It's just their expression towards fashion.

By acknowledging streetwear clothes here in our country, we also recognize the efforts towards sustainability, transparency, fair living wages, and locally produced fashion in the local communities. Also, the unique blend of traditional elements and modern designs, as well as our homage to the country's culture and history.
