Ok what the hell is the current Hurricanes logo? I didn’t know it was 2 C letters until it was pointed out to me. Anyway here is a Canes concept. Its a C but only in a more discernible artistic style. The C has a puck as it’s eye and it looks like the hurricane symbol that you see on the Weather Channel. I kept the color scheme and made it easier to understand.

To start of my NHL series, here is an NHL expansionary idea for the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference, the St. John’s Berserkers. My grandmother hails from Newfoundland and grew up playing hockey in the 20s and 30s. This is pure fantasy to even think the NHL would ever put a team in a city as small as St. John’s but hey Green Bay’s an even smaller town and they’ve got an iconic NFL team there. Anyhow I decided to honor Newfoundland history and the fact that the Vikings were at L’anse Aux Meadows and named the team in St. John’s after these legendary fighters. I decided to be authentic in my design and not include horns on the helmet since archeology has shown this to be inaccurate. The berserker carries a hockey stick and wears a blue tunic with a fur mantle. Again I know there will never be a professional team in St. John’s but this design is one of my favorites.

This concludes my MLB logos series for now. I want to do hockey or football next but I’m not sure which one to do first.

Washington finally got a major sports championship for the first time since 1991, and to celebrate I’ve redesigned the Nationals logo. The current Nats logo is downright uninspiring and its no wonder they haven’t won a playoff series in their 14 year existence with that as their insignia. I used the Capitol building as the centerpiece of this logo and made its outline the baseball diamond. The Washington Monument extends from home plate and the initials DC sit on both sides of it. Maybe there’s too much going on here but with a city that’s as iconic as DC, a W in a circle that says Washington Nationals is just lazy.

Chief Wahoo got run out Cleveland faster than Eric Mangini and the new red C logo is a pathetic attempt to put 67 years of racism behind them. I’m one of the most politically incorrect people you’ll ever meet but the grinning Indian face logo was actually racist and stupid to boot. Anyway from 1921-1927 the Indians used a C like the one above. I updated it a bit and added a baseball in the center with a pair of feathers tied to the letter. It’s pretty innocuous but the liberals will probably find a way to say that it’s “culturally appropriating Native American culture.” Not that I care though.

If MLB wants to expand, they should definitely consider Nashville as a top city to gift with a baseball team. The Music City’s an up and coming city and the state of Tennessee already has 3 major league sports teams with two of them playing in Nashville (the Predators and Titans). To give a nod to the fact that Nashville’s the music capital of America, I’ve strung two eighth notes together to form an N for Nashville with the noteheads filled in with baseballs. The N/2 eighth notes are on a wavy musical staff that makes it look like it’s flying through the air. As for the team colors, I used the Predators yellow, blue and grey. I don’t know if it’s good but I thought it was clever

Now the Tampa Bay Rays might just have one of the coolest names in sports. You’d think with a dope name like that, their logo would reflect all that awesomeness. But no they had to do away with the manta ray logo that they used from 1998-2007 and replace it with a remarkably bland and a generic wording of the team name. Despite being really badass fish, rays are pretty awkwardly shaped so I decided to keep the stylized RAYS logo and add a stingray underlining the wording whilst stemming from the R. It’s simple and I’m not a fan of the team name being the primary logo but at least the ray is back.

I really like teams that wear purple and the Colorado Rockies are the only team in baseball that has that color so I had to do a logo rebrand for them. The one they have now just isn’t very good and I feel that they need a new logo. Using the old NHL Colorado Rockies mountain outline I drew 3 trees, a river and snow capped mountains with the team initials at the bottom to pay tribute to the mountainous terrain of the Centennial State. On the right I did a similar drawing but instead of trees, I put a baseball moon above the mountains. This was all done within the outline of a baseball diamond and I have to say this design is my favorite of the two.

The Milwaukee Brewers are my second favorite MLB team because I have family out in the Badger State and while their current logo isn’t on the level of the Marlins or the D’backs, it could definitely be better. So I came up with a logo that works with the team name. The beer mug with the Milwaukee M and the foam overflowing evokes images of watching baseball sipping beer on a hot summer afternoon. The barley stalks turning into baseball bats crossed behind the beer mug gives off a classic vibe. This is one of my favorite logo designs and not just because I like beer.

While we’re on the subject of appalingly bad logos, the Arizona Diamondbacks have a history of bad logos from the weird snake shaped like a D to the A with a rattler pattern which might just give the Marlins a run for their money in a who has the worst logo in the majors competition. So here are 2 versions of the D’backs that I drew. The one on the right was the original one but I like the one on the left better. It’s a rattlesnake contorted into the letter A for Arizona as its striking its enemy. The one of the right is a rattlesnake wrapped around a baseball like its an egg and warding off enemies.

The Miami Marlins have the ugliest logo in baseball and one of the all time worst in sports. I don’t know who told the person who designed it that they could draw but clearly they lied. Blame also lies with the Marlins managaemnt for choosing that chaotic mess because it’s hideous, offensive to all artistic things, and quite frankly disgusting. I get that the Marlins want to pay tribute to the city’s ethnic influence but honestly I’m not politically correct and the Latino color scheme they have now of bright orange, yellow, black and sky blue makes me want to vomit. Since it’s so bad and I can’t stress that enough, I’ve designed a new logo. I brought back the Marlin in a new style with more teal. A marlin is a beautiful fish and i don’t know why the Marlins organization decided to make it secondary to the M in the current logo. Anyway, I brought back the old M in the baseball. Not a great look but hey anything’s better than the mess that they’ve got now.

Next up, Les Expos de Montreal. I’d love to see MLB bring back the Expos and give Canada another baseball team. Basically an elaborated version of the original Expos logo with the EMB for Expos Base-ball de Montreal. Keeping the original color scheme of the Expos, I gave them a darker shade of blue and a less retro shade of red. The color scheme also is similar to the Canadiens in the NHL because I’m a sucker for a city having multiple teams with the same colors. On the M is the flag of Quebec with a stylized fleur-de-leis in the center.
