My idea was to create a recipe book for the company logo I created last semester for Design 1. For this recipe book I am going to use the same colours used in the logo to respect the theme by also adding halos and angel wings to the texts and titles. The first one I decided to create a basic recipe book look, so the picture on one page and the dessert name, ingredients and the direction in order. To try something different, I experimented with 2 different layouts from the book “Making and Breaking the Grid”. For the two first ones I used the Compositional logic layout. So by putting the texts and images in different angles guides the readers to follow and connect to the subject matter by seeing things in order of importance. In this case, The first thing they would see would be the picture and the the ingredients, the time, the method, the servings and finally the directions. The time, method and servings are usually information that the readers want to find fast instead of looking in the directions and finding that information, which is why I put them separately too so that the readers would be able to access it easily. The picture of the dessert would be in a green frame followed with a gold box, where the ingredients would be since it is important information we look at before starting the making of a dessert. The colors are a reminder to the logo by using its color scheme. For the last sets of layouts I used the sequence and pace layout. So the image of the dessert would continue to the next page. It is a very simple layout that is pleasing to the eye. I experimented with different forms, the first one is the full picture in a rectangle and the second one in a form of a triangle. In this case it is just a sketch so it doesn't look perfect, but for this layout I would experiment with different forms. I also put the texts in order of importance and used the halo for the title. For this project, I will also experiment with the different ways I can take pictures of the dessert to make the recipe book unique and not like any kind of recipe book there is. The way I take the pictures has a big influence on how the recipe book will look like since it is the main subjects that puts the book and page layout together for it to look creative. For the first 2 layouts I chose a 9x12 size paper so that it fits as a normal size recipe book, not too big not too small. For the last 3 layouts I chose a 8x8 size because there is more space so that the texts and the images would fit nicely and not too close to each other; so that the pages do. not look too full or else it wouldn't be pleasing to the eye.

I wanted to redesign nature by creating a plant with an eye ball and hands to represent surveillance. This plant is meant to watch what you do. It watches with the eye and the fingers are there to represent how it watches what you do since you do things with your hands. The Stalking Flower is a flower that grows naturally like any ordinary flower, but doesn't have the same function. Unlike the natural flowers where it’s function is reproduction, this flower’s purpose is to stalk you. It is created by Mother Nature to spy on us and make sure we are keeping her earth clean. The flower has human features, the human eye and fingers, because the flower’s main focus is to watch the human’s actions. So the human features represent it’s purpose which is watching us. I made a basic flower and added the eyeball and fingers inside the flower, making it look like a normal flower from the outside, but it is actually not an ordinary flower. So you do not know that something is watching you. The petals help the eye and fingers not to be exposed and gives the eye shadow to be able to see well when there is too much sunlight. The fingers are also there tp help protect the eye from any insects that think it’s a normal flower. The eye has the same function as the human eye. It is still a flower that grows from the earth so it has the same anatomy as a normal flower: it has a stem, leafs, petals... I put the diagrammatical representation of The Stalking Flower on an old paper to make it look as if this flower was discovered from a scientist and he represented it in a book that is used to inform the readers about different types of weird plants or creatures that do not look ordinary. This is why everything is explained on the paper so that we can understand what it is without doing research.

So the first one I made a basic flower and added the eyeball and fingers inside the flower, making it look like a normal flower from the outside, but it is actually not an ordinary flower and watches your every move. So you do not know that something is watching you. The second one is making a plant that is not subtle to let you know that it is watching you, which gives it a creepy touch to it. To kind of warn you to watch out what you’re doing, making you feel like you have to do good and do the right thing.

I wanted to create a font that has an arabic style to it. To do so I was inspired by what makes me think of arabic. For example: the genie bottle, I tried to follow the form of the bottle with the curves and the pointy end. Also, the Aladdin shoes, so making the bottom of the letters, for example the letter “H”, wider and swirl the end. I was also inspired by their architecture style, so starting pointy from the top and it gets wider from the bottom, for example the letter “M”. I based my fonts on their alphabets, I made the letter “G” look like their “G” and the letter “S” like their “Y”; also the letters “B”, “E” and “R” I made them look like one of their letters that looks like a 3 backwards, where the top curve is smaller and the bottom one is larger. Usually, arabic letters are very pointy and when there are curves they make them thinner. Their dots are shaped like the ones in the english writing, so a circular shape. In the arabic writing, they shape their dots like diamonds, and there are a lot of dots in arabic letters, so I included that in my font. In my font, I used the color gold since this is usually the color they use in their designs, they use a lot of gold and white when it comes to calligraphy designs. So this is what I did for the final representation. The background is a typical arabic pattern with an arch that represents their architecture style. I made the poster look like an old arabic style by using the colour of old paper they used. I called my font “Risala” because in arabic it means “letter”.
