olixrhodes:
“Henchman, huh?” Oliver asked, amused. He dug the lighter from his pocket and held it for the other man to take. “There ye go, mate.” He smiled brightly between the two men.

"Exactly. At Marv’s age, having someone to do your dirty work means you’re a success.” Andre offered a smile, taking the offered lighter and casting his companion a glance. This banter between them, silent and otherwise, seemed relatively typical. “Thanks, man. Won’t take a second.” Turning back to the older man, Andre lit up his cigarette with one graceful motion before looking back to return what was borrowed. “You see? Henchmen. We get things done. Thank you again.”

decmoretti:
December walked outside, listening to the click of her heels on the pavement. She looked up as she dug out a cigarette. “Uh, yeah,” she shamelessly checked up the lumberjack jesus figure. Em handed over the lighter after lighting her own, still slightly looking at him instead of the quiet man. She was a little bit awestruck as the man stood as tall as she.

“Hey, thanks a lot.” Andre offered a warm smile. And if he were taken aback at actually seeing someone at eye level rather than having to look down, he made a valiant effort at masking it. With a small, polite nod, he took the lighter into his hand and allowed it to flicker to life. “Here you go, Marvin.” Leaving over him, he lit the older man’s cigarette, leaving him then to duck into a corner to enjoy it on his own, as if he were afraid someone might try to take it away. Andre sighed. “We appreciate that,” the younger man continued, speaking again for the both of them. He held the lighter back out. “Even if some of us don’t have manners.”

whittmans:
Genevieve’s head was high above the starry skies. Evenings were her niche and something about the shiny lights and bright white stars that hung above the city of Chicago, left the blonde in a dream like state. Her booted heels clacked as she walked, avoiding the cracks due to superstitious nature as a mixed demo softly played through her headphones. She could just hear the end of the question, pulling on her left earbud as she stops in her tracks in casual curiosity. “Sorry—what?” She had to retrace what she had heard, her brow furrowing together as she puts two and two together. “No, I’m sorry. The only thing I’ve lit in the past twenty one years is a candle.” She allows a small smile to grace her features, assuming these two were probably the last likely people for anyone to stop for. “The coffee shop on six just closed, so I’m sure someone will come by soon that could help.”
Tumblr media
"Oh, well, thanks anyway. That’s good to know,” Andre replied, matching her smile with a small, polite one of his own. Straightening his stance, he turned his attention back to the man beside him. “Did you hear that, Marvin? She doesn’t have one, but the coffee shop on six just closed. So, we’ll catch someone with those big earrings you don’t like.” He nudged the other lightly in the side with his elbow and received a mumbled rebuff in return. “I’m sorry to have bothered you. It’s hard to be a smoker in Chicago these days. They keep making the ban bigger, so no one even bothers carrying lighters anymore” He laughed a little bit. “We’re going to have to turn to the patches, Marv.”

"I’m sorry....You wouldn’t happen to have a lighter, would you? My friend here could use one.” Andre himself had never touched a cigarette, but the older gentleman huddled beside him in the bar doorway certainly had. It dangled now from his lip, still unlit. But Andre had apparently taken it upon himself to make sure he got to light up tonight. It was a strange routine they did nearly every Sunday. He’d get asked for a match, reiterate he didn’t have one, and then take the guy outside to find someone who did. They both enjoyed it in their own way, Andre thought; it made an otherwise slow night less lonely. “He’s too polite to ask for it on his own, which is why he has a henchman.” And in truth, the picture was an amusing one in that regard, the younger man standing at 6′7″ and his companion at at least a foot below that. Either way, neither looked particularly intimidating, offering instead a genuine smile, as if sincerely apologizing for being a bother.
