Every scary story you hear about "kids today" from teachers always comes off super fake to me bc its the same "kids are lazy, stupid, and spoiled" shit that teachers have been accusing kids of forever

"kids in my class text their drink orders to their parents who deliver it to them at school" bro what fucking parents?? what fucking school?? do you teach at an academy for children of jobless rich people??

And like, I get as a university instructor that I'm not on the frontlines of this, but I teach a fuckload of 18 year olds fresh out of high school. Pretty much every course I teach is introductory, I joke that I teach 13th and 14th grade. And yeah, the kids like their phones and airpods and are a little ADHD with it, but so was I and the kids I grew up with! Nobody is getting drink orders delivered or is functionally illiterate. Most kids just don't like school and do their best to only put in as much effort as is absolutely necessary.

Which like, maybe you were ms goody two shoes uber nerd perfect student as a child, but the vast majority of people have never been that!

i remember when i was doing a religious simpsons painting in my painting 1 class and the professor had been talking about trends that annoyed him, specifically people painting bart back when he taught in the 90′s. i took my painting off the easel and turned it around and my 50-some year old professor had to cope with seeing imagery of bart simpson as a cherub
