So I’m rewatching season 7 and by the time ‘slash fiction’ comes around, Dean is referencing non-performing-Dean movies and songs 2, 3 times per episode. And Sam keeps getting the references and ribbing him about it.
What’s interesting is that Sam is also spending this whole time saying “what’s wrong, what’s upsetting you, you can talk to me, why won’t you open up.”
Textually, Dean feels guilty about killing Amy, the kitsune. But subtextually, Dean is trying to show Sam little cracks in the facade, and Sam mocks him for it every time. Which really shows Dean that he can’t open up to Sam- no matter what Sam tries to say.
It’s refreshing to see how much this has changed in the years since then.
