The only SPED teacher in my school of two campuses. I needed to find a way to document my journey.

Yay for Fridays!
12/2/22
We had a late start due to snow and midterm grades were due so it was a day full of adventure. I received an email about a three hour test I took almost 4 weeks ago, I passed! Thank goodness! One more step towards teacher licensure. It’s about 10:30 pm and I finally submitted my last two assignments for EDUC 5034 before calling it a night. Let’s see if the gym is in my day for tomorrow. I’d hope so!

Academic wins can look like:
Getting an A on your test
Organizing a study group
Studying daily for an hour or two
Having perfect attendance
Getting that grant/scholarship
Getting ahead in all your classes
Academic wins can also look like:
Actually being able to focus in class for once
Getting enough sleep and food
Fighting through your depression and finishing a single assignment
Turning in a paper a little late
Taking a mental health day
Getting a C on a test you thought you failed
Academic wins are personal. They're different for everyone and depend on you, your goals, your mental and physical health, and your overall well-being. For someone working full time, getting that C and showing up to class once a week is a win and something they should be proud of! For someone who has everything financially covered and can devote plenty of time, getting the deans list should be something they rightfully should brag about! Achievements are Achievements regardless. Don't let anyone take your wins from you

Now, let’s talk about the photos.
1. I found out my student I’ve know for four years is moving out of our boundaries. I wanted to make sure his new teachers knew how much he loves working on a white board, so I put that information in his IEP.
2. I go to such a rare type of school that they bring food from my childhood to share with the entire staff. #Nostalgic
3. My student gave me a list of his missing work to show that he is being more responsible. I adore the effort and he’s grown so much. It’s the little moments that matter and compound into amazing memories. I’m going to miss this wonderful scholar.
4. I’m working full-time while attending grad school for a second masters, this time an M.Ed. I’ve been developing my lesson plan skills to incorporate Bloom’s Taxonomy.
5. This is a photo of our 10th grade classroom. They have many more flags. Each represents a group of students that attend our school. Also, I didn’t know I was going to be teaching today, so I was given quick instructions on their agenda. Luckily it wasn’t so difficult. But definitely kept me on my toes.
My favorite part of the day was singing happy birthday to one of my middle school students with an IEP as he shared his food with the class. And right after my 11th grade student with an IEP comes in the room, excited after his PE class, and yells my name so joyfully because he remembered we have a speech session in 5 minutes.
Today was a day and I’m glad I made it through.
When I got back home, we went straight to Costco for some groceries and filled the car up. I didn’t know I’d be so happy for $3.49/gal. Once I returned home, I started working in my grad work. I use to study for three hours but I found myself exhausted. Now, it’s one hour to two on the weekdays and four to six in the weekends.
