Summative assessment- IMPROO!
On 25th of May a summative assessment of Theatre took place on Raszyńska building. Half of our school year gathered on the main hall of the Diploma Programme. Because of the technical difficulties MYP2 classes had to be moved to the DP building. At 14:45 everyone gathered together in the main hall and the impro began. Ms.Paulina Gawrońska chose 3 people at once and they had to come up to the centre, the rest of the people were supposed to choose a topic for them to perform on. I got a theme “Cockroaches living under a radiator” to be honest my theme was quite hard and I tried my best but I saw several problems in my acting, first of all I didn’t act quickly and my group was forced to stop talking, so we were trying to get into action but it went partially well. Overall speaking I would say that I am partially happy with my work, although I am really happy that I manage to come up to the stage and do a anything, I have bad anxiety and the Improvisations escalated this problem. I’m really happy I managed to complete this summative <33

Preparation for the summative assessment
For our summative assessment preparation we were chosen at random into groups of three and were supposed to act on a topic chooses by our group. The improvisations were fun but the main challenge was how we needed to act quickly and faster get ideas for our improvisation. We were cheered by our peers to act and the atmosphere was generally really great but most of us were still very stressed because the improvisations cause a lot of anxiety but we still tried our hardest.

Improvisation workshop
On today’s improvisation lessons we had a guest, it was an old friend of our Theatre teacher and he taught us about quick improvisations and how to adapt into different and new situations. Using an example of four students from our group he created 4 different improvisations scenes that were continued one after another. He emphasised that we aren’t supposed to talk rather take action and focus more on our environment, we are supposed to agree to the ideas given by our partners and don’t stand in opposition to them, well no always. If we don’t have an idea we are just supposed to go with the flow rather than being stuck up.

Silent Improvisations
The second semester of MYP2 focused in improvisation. The whole point of improvisation is to overcome stage anxiety. My group was especially attentive because of many expressing people that we have there.I on the Frist a few lessons we were focused on silent improvisations, on creating stories without suing any words focusing mainly on body language. It was a preparation to start more advanced improvisations. The silent improvisations were present on the lessons because Ms. Paulina Gawrońska wanted us to learn to use our body to tell a story because when in improvisation one talk too much it starts to get boring for the audience.

My Reflections
The semester ended with the final show performed, and my group did great. Before the whole performance we divided ourselves into groups, this is we’re we came to some obstacles as most of my group was absent and it was absolutely mixed. We had a short amount of time to prepare, only a week, our teacher helped his greatly She gave us ideas and we used them in the final product. As we did Comedia de’ll arte it was comedic so our plays were comedic it was supposed to make the audience laugh which we fulfilled. We were performing short skits between the bigger plays, to make the watcher laugh and peace their mind. Overall speaking I really enjoyed this semester and I learned new thing such as: etiudes, comedia de’ll arte and how to cooperate with one another. The final show was amazing, all of us gathered together and we had the chance to watch an review each other’s performances and perform on our own. In my opinion everyone did absolutely great and it was really impressive how some people synchronised with each other. I am really looking formales to the next semester and how it will look like

Etude
On our recent Theater lesson we started learning about Etude, and prepare a presentations about it. Me and my group prepared a presentation about Commedia de’ll arte. Out etude is characterised by stereotypical characters and improvised performance, this kind of play also let women perform on stage which was a huge change in Theater. The whole point of commedia dell arte was to bring joy to the viewers, the authors performed on the streets and watching it was completely free

Making masks
Recently on out Theater lessons our teacher let us making masks. The first thing we started with was dividing ourselves in groups of two. The first person had to cover themselves in Vaseline, especially they’d had to pay attention to eyebrows and eyelashes. The task of the other person was to cover their whole face in gypsum, when it dried a mask was created. This task had to be repeated twice in order for every person to have a mask. In the next lessons we covered the insides of gypsum masks in wet paper mixed with glue, we had to make 8 layers and let it dry. This ways a paper mask was created.

Boże Mój- Live theatre experience
A play performed in Theatre Polonia directed by Andrzej Seweryn was a performance about believing in god. Personally I am an atheist but the play was really funny and moving. The whole story revolves around a mother that spend her whole life taking her of her mental disabled son, she progressively loses faith in god when suddenly a Deus ex Machina appears, the god himself descends from heaven to personally talk with the main character. The whole play consists of a variety of conversation between the mother and god himself, they talk about life, death, love, happiness and sadness. If I was about to categorise this play I would considered it a long essay about the sense of existence that was transformed into a Theatre play. Although I do not believe in god, Philosophy is a big interest of mine so In consequence this play was very pleasant for me. I haven’t felt any strong emotion but this was not the purpose of the play, purpose was to trigger our minds into thinking more about who we are and where we are going.

UNIT 1
What was new? Our unit one on Theatre lessons mainly revolved around the topic of integration, for me it is something new. Schools that I attended were mainly focused on our individual performance so Theatre on IB RASZ was a really pleasant surprise for me. Another factor that was new for me is how much exercises we have that do not include verbal communication, we had to rely on our body language. What was interesting? I was really fascinated by how much of group work do we have. I really like cooperating especially when we have creative tasks to do. All of our exercises revolved around creative thinking. For me overall theatre lessons are a great escapism from the rest of really repetitive lesson that we have every week. I have really high hopes for the second unit because as for now Theatre lessons in IB Raszynska won my heart <3

Dead Poet Society - Live theatre experience
I often visit theatre however the play “Dead Poet Society” was the one that left me with the biggest amount of emotion. I got my ticked during the covid era when most of the people stayed at home, if not for it I would be never able to get there. “Dead Poet Society” performed in Och-Teatr is one of the most wanted plays in Warsaw theatre. This play is a film adaptation directed by Peter Weir in 1989. Our Polish theatre version was directed by Piotr Ratajczyk, he did an excellent job. The actors are also amazing especially Maciej Musiał who entered the role of Neil Perry. The whole performance was magnificent, it really triggered emotions, the whole audience with me included was shattered into pieces, all of us cried at the end. The amazing sorry which inspires us to follow our heart and to not be afraid of we are caused in me strong emotions. Mainly I cried but not because I was sad ,I was so deeply moved tears started to run down my cheeks.
I highly recommend this play for anyone

What is Theater for me?
Since I was a kid I was fascinated by the whole idea of acting, of being someone else for a short period of time. This one blazing moment in which you enter a role. There was a time when I wanted to be an actress but I realised that this path is sadly not for me but this fascination of mine haven’t vanished. When I became older, cinematography started to be a big interest of mine, especially I fell in love with Tim Burton’s creations. This artist was inspired by German expressionism and gothic Theater plays. For me Theater is something that we do every day, we all play specific roles every single day. But some people are lucky enough to enter a role that they never though they would, perhaps they will play a snow queen or an happy elf. Theatre is something unexplainable, something that we feel something that we perform a moment in which we become someone else in which our past nor the future matters.

Voyageurs Immobiles review
Philippe Genty is known for combining puppetry with dance and acting, his imagination often is compared to a dream, and his previous shows are known for waltzing performances and vibrant lights. Voyageurs Immobiles is no exception to this impressive renown of the author.
Created in 1995, a theater play directed by Philippe Genty. This show had its tour from 1996 to 1997, Voyageurs Immobiles managed to travel across the oceans and seas. This Theater piece containing colorful lights and exquisite acting skills was accompanied by music composed by Henry Torgue And Serge Houppin.
The main point of the play is human evolution, how one’s person’s odyssey turned into a society. How we managed to develop through the years and face different situations: struggles, conflicts, terrors, dreams, and many others. The enormous amount of travel in the play suggests how many paths a society could take.
The special trait of this show was acting and showing emotions without talking, for the majority of the time actors are relying on their facial expressions, animalistic sounds, or body movements. Even without the dialogue, the audience knows what is happening, it could be even said that nonverbal acting makes us more cautious about images and sounds. The performance is brave and bold, and the ideas are controversial but it is supposed to be like this, the controversy turns our attention constantly towards the stage and creates tension.
The design of the production is well-thought, every detail has to match the bigger picture for the audience to understand the statement. Lights are adjusted exactly to the point where our attention should be and indicates how are we supposed to feel. if the scene is meant to be scary the lights are dark and dull, if the scene is loud and bold the lights are vibrant. The whole play is based on the expression of actors, there is no dialogue. Any sort of sound plays a key role in communication between the actors and the audience. The majority of sounds are loud and expressive, their role is to catch our attention at a certain moment. Costumes however play a role to a certain degree. Their sole purpose is to serve their job in a specific scene, actors dress to make the message of the scene clearer to the audience. The set and props are based on real objects or panoramas but the difference is that the scenery in the show is not realistic, the play is made in such an exaggerated way, that the realistic props and set would minimize the imaginary and dreamy aesthetic of the whole show.
At first, when I saw the video of Voyageurs Immobiles, I thought it was strange and even disturbing at some points. I am no expert in theater and interpretation, I had to look up what the author Phillippe Genty intended by directing this play. Regardless of my first impression, I would recommend watching this show, the scenery is vibrant, You will feel
like in hypnosis or a dream, everything in this play comes together and harmonizes, the loud and spontaneous sounds somehow fit in, everything in this play simply belongs together, even if You are not interested in Theater it is a great sensory experience. The other thing that convinced me, was the actor's skills and their ability to adapt to any situation given. Acting without talking is a big challenge, I think that the cast nailed their performance.
