BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Rochester, NY; relocated to Manhattan just after she turned seven, after her father’s company expanded to a new headquarter location in New York City.
Comes from a well-to-do family; her father owns a marketing company, Addison Industries, and her mother is a mid-level executive for a multi-national consulting firm.
Amy and her sister didn’t want for much of anything as children. While they were taught the value of hard work and dedication, their privileged upbringing caused them to have a certain air of superiority and entitlement.
Amy struggled a lot with body image as a teenager. She was diagnosed and received treatment for anorexia when she was 17. She hasn’t had a full relapse but still struggles with the disorder from time to time.
After completing high school, Amy took time to travel the world with a small group of friends. They spent about a year visiting a number of countries, including Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Portugal.
Instead of going to college after her gap year like she had originally planned, she decided to pursue a career in the beauty industry, starting off as a freelance makeup artist while working part-time at her father’s company.
It was through this endeavor to build her career that she met Nathan Young, her now ex-husband and the father of their two daughters. Their romance was something of a fairytale, the kind of whirlwind romance that she had only dreamed of up until they met. They fell fast, and were married and starting a family of their own shortly after.
Their marriage ultimately ended after six years, after Nathan announced he had been unfaithful to her. Amy was absolutely devastated and desperately hoped they would be able to work things out and move forward, but such was not the case. The divorce proceedings were quick to follow, and it wasn’t even a year later that Nathan had left New York and she had been granted full custody.
The divorce, while it had been the most painful thing she had ever been through, the experience had been a humbling one. It ultimately served as a catalyst for Amy, one she desperately needed. Knowing she needed to be the best version of her for the benefit of her daughters, she decided to return to school. After an intensive two-year program, she graduated with honors from the Media, Culture and Communication program at Columbia University.
Amy took a job with a well-known fashion and beauty magazine following her matriculation from Columbia. She eventually landed a promotion within the company, to lead the Fashion Editorial Team in the Los Angeles Office. While she was reluctant to pursue such a big change, this would allow her girls to be closer to their father. As contentious as their dynamic could be at times, she was not going to be the reason her daughters didn’t have a healthy relationship with both of their parents.
