Dry eye is a multifactorial disease that affects the front surface of your eyes causing symptoms such as burning sensation in your eyes, forging body sensations, and burning sensation. Dr. Sarah Pinkhasov from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan discusses different types of eye drops used for treating dry eyes. It is important to have a dry eye evaluation to understand what is causing your symptoms, as that will also identify the correct type of eye drops for you to use and the available treatment options. Over the counter artificial tears are used for milder cases of dry eyes but if you are using these daily then you may want to switch to the preservative free option. The use of lipid-based eye drops or gel may be required in cases of dry eyes that are a result of clogged meibomian glands or evaporative dry eye. Additionally, our eye doctor may prescribe prescription eye drops such as Restasis, Xiidra and Cequa eye drops.

Dr. Sarah Pinkhasov from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan discusses keratoconus and whether rubbing your eyes can cause it. Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease of the cornea, which is the front part of your eye. With keratoconus, your cornea becomes increasingly thinner over time, causing it to bulge out and protrude out, resulting in an irregular corneal surface. The problem with rubbing your eyes is that it can cause microdamage to the collagen in the eye, causing damage to the cornea. When the enzyme tries to repair the corneal tissue, it just gets worse. Thus, it's very important not to rub your eyes because this can cause further damage and thinning of the cornea and can speed up the progression of your keratoconus. Dr. Nat Wernick FCOVD from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan discusses convergence insufficiency, its symptoms and how it is detected. A problem with convergence can cause symptoms such as eye strain, eye pain, headache, blurred vision, double vision and tired eyes. It is estimated that 3-13% of children have convergence issues that impact their ability to read and succeed in the classroom.
This is a visual skill that can be evaluated with a pencil push-up test. Basically you hold a pencil and bring it close to your eyes. Your eyes will turn in toward the pencil as it gets closer to your nose. Convergence insufficiency occurs when the brain does not have good control over the eyes, so the eyes do not converge well. An example of what that might look like if the patient is doing the test and failing, is that at a certain point, their eyes give up, and they stop following the test. This is a common way to diagnose convergence insufficiency in the office. You can schedule an eye exam by calling at 212-752-6930. - Do you want to learn more about Convergence Issue? Dr. Sarah Pinkhasov from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan explains how contact lenses can cause dry eyes, as well as how to treat them. Contact lenses can cause dry eyes if you wear bi-weekly or monthly contact lenses because you are more likely to develop a variety of different protein and lens deposits on your lens. Then, when you place them on your eyes, your eyes may feel gritty and dry. The best contact lenses for patients with dry eyes are specialty hard contact lenses called scleral lenses, which can help to improve your symptoms of dry eyes while still wearing contact lenses. It's really important to get a thorough contact lens evaluation to see which contact lens is best for you because some contact lenses have a greater oxygen permeability, and a different water content compared to other contact lenses that can reduce your symptoms of dry eyes. Call us at (212) 752-6930 to schedule an eye exam for dry eyes. #DryEyes #Vision #EyeCare #Vision #EyeHealth #ScleralLenses #ContactLenses - Do you want to learn more about Contact Lenses and Dry Eye? Dr. Nat Wernick FCOVD discusses how your eyes and brain work to perceive 3D images and causes and symptoms of poor depth perception. Depth perception is a result of each of our eyes looking at a similar object from slightly different angles. People with poor depth perception may stumble when they walk in a room, may be clumsy when grabbing things, and may have difficulty seeing cars around them when they are driving. Come in for an eye exam if you have any of the symptoms described above so we can assess your depth perception and binocular vision. Dr. Nathaniel Wernick FCOVD from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan talks about saccade eye movement. Saccade eye movement is a jump eye movement. Watch full video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oAo6bBUk4Q This movement involves looking at something and then looking at another thing all of a sudden.  A saccade is a quick movement using both eyes, moving from one point of fixation to another in the same direction. It is a visual skill, which is initiated by the center of your brain that tells you how much to move your eyes and where to land. Reading requires this type of movement, and the most common symptom of the saccade eye disorder is when you reread the same line instead of moving to the next line. #Saccade #Reading #childrensvision #saccadiceyemovements - Do you want to learn more about Skipping lines when reading? Dr. Sarah Pinkhasov from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan discusses the causes, symptoms and treatment of subconjunctival hemorrhage, commonly known as blood in the white part of the eye.  Oftentimes patients don't even realize they have subconjunctival hemorrhage because it's asymptomatic, but if someone were to tell them, "It looks like you have blood in your eye” or if they look in the mirror, they might be really concerned. The good news is that it appears much worse than it actually is.  This usually happens as a result of lifting heavy weights, working out really hard in the gym, or coughing or sneezing really hard. If you are in the bathroom and straining and you are constipated, that strain, and that upper body pressure could all be reasons for a blood vessel to burst in your eye, and then you see blood in the white part of your eye.  In most cases, there is no treatment; it resolves within two to three weeks. It is relatively mild and not much to worry about. In contrast, if subconjunctival hemorrhages occur very frequently, such as more than once per month or within a few months, then that can be a bit more concerning, as it could indicate some sort of issue with your blood. #SubconjunctivalHemorrhage #BloodInEye #optometrist #eyecare - Do you want to learn more about Blood in the White Part of the Eye? Dr. Nat Wernick FCOVD from Amplify EyeCare Manhattan explains suppression in binocular vision and how to test it at home. Suppression occurs when your brain shuts off one of your eyes because it either sees double or doesn't work as it should. The brain has an amazing mechanism that shuts off information coming in from that eye, so that you don't see double all the time.
One thing that can help you visualize suppression is a pencil diplopia test. Basically, what you'd do is look at a target at a distance and hold a pen about a foot in front of your eyes. If you're looking far away with this pen held in front of your eyes, you should see two pens. Seeing only one pen might be a sign that your brain is suppressing an eye, and you may need a binocular vision test. This is a very simple test you can do at home to make sure that both of your eyes work properly at a distance. However, you should always see a qualified eye care professional for proper diagnosis and treatment. You can schedule an eye exam by calling at 212-752-6930. #suppression #worthfourdot #DiplopiaTest #eyecare #vision #eyehealth #optometrist - Do you want to learn more about Suppression?
