Pure serenity 💕 Gorgeous photo, Sufjan x
One of my landscape photographs is in a new group show at Shrine Gallery in NYC. It opens tomorrow. Lots of great artists involved and it’s all been put together by the amazing Scott Ogden, who first introduced me to Royal Robertson back in the day. Enjoy!

Love who you want, how you want, as much as you want. Life is short, love is precious. Honour, Accept, Tolerate, Empathise. Can we turn HATE into something positive? Love to you, Sufjan xx

What Sufjan wants should be respected - leave the past where it is
hello, do you have any information about the doc Crooked River or where it can be founded ?
The documentary has never been released. Here’s some info about it from Sufjan himself in an old interview:
The revelation of the singer’s Pac-Man acumen was recently uncovered in the latest trailer for Crooked River, a documentary that followed Sufjan and his brother Marzuki on their journey to reunite with their estranged father. Although it was shot in 2006, the film is yet to be released, and that’s just the way Sufjan would prefer it stayed.
“I kind of hated it,” he admits. “It was very invasive. I don’t really like being around cameras so it was very awkward. I would rather it wasn’t released. It originally started off as a student project by an old friend Kaleo La Belle as he was working through a program in Switzerland. So I don’t really know what his intentions are. I didn’t ever think it would be released, I thought it was kind of a thesis project.”

Just gorgeous. Oh, to be at that premiere 💕 Sure it will be ethereal, magical and memorable

The new ballet is called “Principia,” based on the work of Isaac Newton and inspired by the neo-classical architecture of Étienne-Louis Boullée, who designed Newton’s Cenotaph (though it was never built). We can think on the order of the universe to better understand our role in it. Ballet is a great vehicle for investigating the basic principles of life—of movement, physics, thought, aesthetics, politics, and behavior. New York City Ballet is a great company to see right now as they undergo big changes and return to form. We live among the chaos and according to the laws of nature (and society). Let us not forget ourselves for what we have become. Let us remember who we are called to be. https://www.nycballet.com/newcombinations

Looks fabulous and anything that you touch musically is exquisite so triumph awaits. A trip across the pond to NYC is in order. Love, light and festive lunacy to you xxxx
I wrote music for a new Justin Peck ballet that premieres next month at New York City Ballet. It’s ten movements for orchestra and piano. I had a lot of fun making it and I got to work with the incredible Timo Andres, who did the final orchestrations. If you’re new to ballet (and don’t know I occasionally do this on the side), here’s some teasers for the previous ones I did with Justin: https://youtu.be/FCwPqjqPR3Q and https://youtu.be/l7jXp0qFz0Y.
I watched a rehearsal of the new one today and it’s gonna be real fun. More info soon. XOXO

Hi, yes, love the birthday boy:)
‘Death with Dignity’came on the radio one night and it was instant love. Only a newbie - I discovered him in 2016. Flew to Paris last year to watch him perform Planetarium but gutted that I missed the C & L tour :/ Yes, I am in the UK. The guy is a total star and a sweetheart. Ever seen Sufjan live yourself? I know he is quite elusive....

The ocean is endlessly cathatic and therapeutic. It reminds us of our transience, insignificance and slots those priorities into place. I walk b the ocean every day and it stills my soul. Your beach walk is a lot more beautiful than mine - keep enjoying it
Feeling heart sore and exposed. My eyes burn from tired or tears. Time at the ocean is never enough…
Laying on the sand, particles prick my cheek with the wind….waves crashing so hard I could feel the reverberation in my chest.
A final photo before leaving for home….
Now, blocks away from home, I pull over to have a minute and take a breath before getting pulled back into life and family.
Hoping for a nap and time to think and write. We’ll see.
My mind is still here…..

He is all too human but he is also touched with a rare grace and sweetness (and very few humans are that beautiful and talented) This whole show was wonderful to watch and he just elevated it to something special. I think any future gigs he does should incorporate a hymn- some of his songs could almost be seen as such already. Beautiful ❤️

Sufjan Stevens leading an audience in singing a hymn is one of the most Sufjan Stevens things (also: beautiful).

Sufjan and songs which are 'utter failures' ?? No, sorry. This was a hugely entertaining show - there were clearly a lot of Sufjan fans in the house and he was his modest, sweet self, as ever. He was so young when he wrote 'Heirloom' too ...
Live From Here host Chris Thile wants to know how Sufjan Stevens deals with the problem of “having too many good songs.”

It was wonderful - the whole show was exemplary musicianship but then add Sufjan and that smile :) worth staying up for
Here’s the link to the audio recording from yesterday if you missed it! The whole thing was nice to listen to, but here are the Suf related time codes:
12:45 -> Tonya Harding
52:00 -> A little chat w/ suf, Heirloom, and Visions of Gideon
1:43:26 -> Mystery of Love
1:54:45 -> Ah Holy Jesus

Only Sufjan could have carried it off and still looked incredible. Yup, huge respect
I can’t not respect the fashion choices of a man whose instinct is to wear a striped pink jacket to a black tie event.
(Also, I actually genuinely like said jacket)
