Hiding...
Blog Entry #3
Aware of my feelings,
I know I'm falling.
Afraid to lose someone
Bet he'll be gone.

They say Filipina is Another Name for Maid by Luisa Igloria [Analysis]
BLOG ENTRY #2 THEY SAY FILIPINA IS ANOTHER NAME FOR MAID by Luisa Igloria
As I was reading the poem, I can't help but to feel pity for my fellow Filipinas—when the words finally sink into my mind. The fact that there are many OFWs working abroad doesn't mean they should be treated or entitled as slaves or maids. So far, this is the worst discrimination for us. Those people have a heart of stone. Yes, we love to work but because we have someone to lend the money to. Not just because we are busy as bee doesn't mean we are completely "servants". I just don't get the idea of why we were entitled as maids. What for? Because we don't give a damn about what other people think or say? Because we like to accept different kind of jobs as long as were able to do it? We, Filipinas, are willing to endure the difficult life and maltreatment of our "boss" for we to provide the needs and wants of our loved ones. Everytime, there's an opportunity knocking on the door, we aim to grab it and make sure not to waste it.

Under the Mango Tree by Hugh Aaron [Analysis]
Blog Entry #1 Greetings! Welcome to my first ever blog! So, the following three blog entries are for school purposes. Well, hope you would gain some knowledge from them. UNDER THE MANGO TREE by HUGH AARON [CHARACTERS] For me, the main character in this story is Lieutenant Roger B. Anderson. He was an American lieutenant who surrendered hisself in order to save another one's life from cruel killing of the Japanese marchers. Next one, Anita's grandmother, she and her husband saved Lieutenant Anderson when he was shot by the Japanese marchers. She was killed by them because she didn't admit that lieutenant Anderson was on their hands. Also, Anita, she was the one who told the story of what happened between how Japanese people marched hundreds of American prisoners through Pampanga from Bataan. Moreover, Hal, he was an American who is in love with Anita, he listened to Anita's story and also was the one who narrates the entire story of Under the Mango Tree. Anita's grandfather, he was also the one who helped lieutenant Anderson when he was shot by the Japanese. The Japanese people on that time were very cruel. Okay, so those were just the important characters (for me) in that Hugh Aaron's Under the Mango Tree story. [CONFLICT] So, the conflict in that story was, the Japanese people were letting American prisoners marching through Pampanga from Bataan. No water nor food was served. And ever since, Anita's grandparents helped Lieutenant Anderson—who was shot by the Japanese, their lives were at risk. They were warned that the should not interfere with the Japanese's business, however, (of course) in the Filipinos bloodline, being helpful is their trait. And the main conflict is when Billiard Ball's going to report Anita's story. [SYMBOLS] The Mango Tree was a symbol of the story. The grave of Anita's grandmother and Lieutenant Anderson was buried side by side of that tree because it was her grandfather's wish. The rifle was a symbol of the Japanese's cruelty in killing such person who just aimed to help. [POV] The story was narrated by first person's point of view, Hal narrated the story of Under the Mango tree. [PLOT DEVELOPMENT] The story was tragic, of course. It was a story telling how Japanese people were cruel that time. Even if the Filipinos were warned not to interfere with their business, they didn't seem to mind just to help one of the American prisoners. It only shows that even if you don't share same nationality, as long as you are able to help, then you should. [STRUCTURE/FORMAT] The structure of the story was a flash forward story. One of the characters told what happened before—during the harshness of Japanese people to American prisoners.
