ok rantpost about lifestuff

Ok so my friend was texting me not too long ago about how she really liked this guy but hes not looking for a romantic relationship rn. and i was like thats ok wait ur relationship will probably be better anyways

and now she dating someone??? i heavily doubt its the guy she was texting me about literally a few DAYS before because theyre so different.

Ok so for simplicity's sake: Let's say my friend's name is cake, and the guy she's dating rn is named dave. (i never learned the name of teh guy she originally had a crush on so i wont give him a fake name but its not really that important so whatever)

Ok so dave is like. INSANE. in like 5th grade (elementry school!!) he SET THE BOYS BATHROOM ON FIRE. LITERALLY.

hes also the known like. "class clown" / problem kid but like. turned up to a decibel so loud you cant hear it anymore. My other friend coco (her actual online name; she has tumblr) has some classes with him, and she says he randomly says stuff about like? wanting to fuck a dog??? which is SUPER gross

also im pretty sure hes racist. during a lot of elementry/middle school i had a friend, and he was black. And dave would often say racist things to him like calling him a monkey or slavery references which is super fucked up.

he also made a lot of jokes about rape and related sexual topics in A CLASSROOM UNPROMPTED.

(And given that we live in a red state, and hes made jokes about it, hes probably homophobic too; which makes it even CRAZIER that cake is with him because she LITERALLY just stopped being friends with someone in our friend group because she was very christian, and cake (who is bi) suspected she was homophobic. but she'll date dave??????? like. what)

And I dont have any classes with him (thankfully) but as far as I can tell he hasnt changed at all. especially with what coco tells me about him, i think hes exactly the same.

Now, cake is a very kind person. Shes very empathetic and sweet. I would NEVER have expected her to willingly be within a 5-mile radius of dave; much less be in a positive relationship with him, MUCH MUCH less a romantic relationship.

She says that dave's concerning comments are "just him being a teenage boy;" and while a lot of teenage boys here DO say weird shit, it doesn't excuse that behavior. It is still completely optional; all of the boys im friends with dont say shit like that because that is WEIRD. Plus dave tuns it up to 200, like. its not even funny its just weird and creepy at that point. he seriously needs a talking to, even if he is "kidding" its still fucked up to SAY things like that OUT LOUD in a CLASSROOM.

I just. i dont know anymore. i dont want him to hurt cake but i dont want to hurt her feelings either... coco (who actually recently broke up with cake; dont press me for details, i dont know them; dont press her for details either, its disrespectful; I doubt anyone will see this but jsut in case) said she tried to tell her but she used the above "hes just being a teenage boy!!" excuse. Its so over

I know I say that I'm kinda nuts for doing the amount of visual research I do, but at the same time: Specificity is SO much more compelling and real feeling, and imo not getting references often makes things look more amateur.

Eg. drawing a sofa- my mental image of a sofa is something like this:

Like. Its a sofa. It works. But it's not very convincing, the pillows are kinda wrong at the back, and it's not really giving any information about the owner. Even if you want a basic sofa... What kind of basic.

Anyway I'll get off my soapbox but specificity is sexy and fun and it can do your storytelling for you!
