"Why are you sad?"
"I don't know"
"Yes, you do, you just don't want to tell me!" *proceeds to get angry*
Since then, before I even showed sadness I was actively thinking of an explanation, even if it wasn't the real reason why I was sad, just to avoid being yelled at.
Good times

Friendly reminder that English is my second language, so if I screw up, it's entirely the english-speakers' fault. I am a delight when I write in Spanish.

an illustration of that very specific feeling when you're not in the mood for doing or watching anything, but it's not late enough to go to bed, so you grab some nachos and turn on the fairy lights and an x files episode that you've seen half a dozen times.

yes I understand how they work and how they should be for the people buy looking at the trail of human history it's the "still pending" effect, I understand your pacifist pov but let's be real it's fantasy talk there is no level of satisfaction of govt anywhere at anytime it's merely a pipedream, so what works? Being the change you want to see in an infinite uphill sagacious battle
Pacifism to me means not throwing stones at others, not starting wars, not torturing others out of nowhere. It doesn't mean not recognizing that the only viable solution in some cases is an actual revolution with bloodshed and casualties. It is always an option and it is a proper option when oppressors won't give in.
And humanity? Humanity is a forever work in process. It never ends. Problems come and go, some easier to face than others, some won't be solved in one's lifetime. But the only way to keep moving forward is through community, through the connection with other people. Why? Because my problems and your problems and the ones from people from different countries, those who don't even know how to speak the same language, those who don't have running water, all our problems have the same root. The poorly paid, overworked person in a different country is underpaid and overworked because of the exact same reasons that someone in my country. It's a common enemy, it's a common root. The sooner we all understand that the problems don't stop at borders the sooner we can collectively start thinking of a solution.
Peace, human rights, fair laws and social services, everything we have achieved as humanity at different points and at different scales are never permanent, never secured. A win in the ballots, a new revolutionary government, they are a breath of fresh air, a moment of respite. But they are nothing but a blank slate, a restart in the whole cycle. And there are cycles because at some point, the groups who got those achievements, relaxed, loosened up, stopped paying as much attention to the whole situation because "now everything is fixed". Revolutionaries, suffragists, people who made a change in the world, often take a deep breath and tell their children and their grandchildren the stories of how bad things used to be and how they are no longer like that.
But the upkeep? The maintenance? Those are aspects that more often than not are neglected by good people, who like to enjoy what they have and "not focus on the bad things", "those are things of the past".
A democracy needs more than people pretending to vote for one color every four years, needs people who actually know what a democracy is, people who actually look into what their candidates are promising to do and how they are supposed to achieve it, people who look why some countries don't allow private interests to sponsor candidates, people who are willing to accept when two parties are no longer different but by name and recognize that the interests of the people demand the creation of new ones. People who won't say "but no one votes for a third party!" and instead get involved with said party in order to do whatever they can to change that statement.
It's easier to cross one's arms and say "but that's the way things are", and then complain for twelve years that things are exactly the same. But people can change, learn, evolve. Sometimes the change that one wants to see won't happen in one's lifetime. Sometimes what we say and do are only tiny ideas that will spark someone else's actions in one or two generations. That is the meaning of life, along with despair and anger and uncertainty, and that's how it will always be.
The whole point in this neverending battle between humanity and itself is that, when the end comes and we have to draw our last breath, we did what we wanted to see in the world.
"But it's pointless! It's meaningless!" Yeah, it is. There is no point in life and there is no meaning on it. It's a blank page. If one doesn't want to believe in destiny, god or whatever out there, yeah. But it is a blank page. We can do nothing or we can do anything. We can complain that there is no path or copy someone else's or draw whatever the hell we want.
"But it never works! Nothing changes!" It hasn't worked before, it hasn't changed until now. Maybe we don't have all the solutions or all the answers, but then we have to keep an open mind, to listen to the ideas of others, because maybe, just maybe, in this lifetime someone will come up with something that will work and they will need others to be there to listen.
Pretending we don't have a choice is easier. It is way harder to try and fail a thousand times in hopes of that one time when something does work.

I have a cousin who studied psychiatry, she was in her last year when they had to go into a psych ward as part of their social service. She went on the first day and by the end of the day, she went back crying to her parents, saying she couldn't do it. The next day she was doing the paperwork to drop out. She ended up studying to become a preschool teacher.
Not everyone is ready for everything, and a lot of people go into careers under false advertising. You have no idea how many students I had to see entering engineering with a specialty in robotics thinking they will become iron man when in reality the program at most was preparing them to create and give maintenance to factory machinery.
This is one of the funniest things I've found on tumblr and I've seen some shit
