I KNOW that technically they are only 2 years apart of age but I really wanted to give Kai an extra year with MK. I like angst but not too much tragedy, let my boy MK have some of his son years with him at least.
Next part is coming on August 16th, 1PM ET

if I have to hear ONE MORE TIME, that HTTYD3 is about letting go I will slap someone…
“The theme of HTTYD is letting go!!" SHUT UP. NO. This story was never about letting go of your friends and your convictions, letting go of your "ideals" or letting go of dragons. HTTYD AS A WHOLE WAS NEVER ABOUT LETTING GO. This theme was shoehorned in at the very last minute and it was executed in the worst way possible at that.
The thing is, HTTYD 3 tho has that “theme” because and only because Dean wanted it to. It’s a theme sorely for the third movie and it became a main theme for some dumb reason only for Dean to have that ending. But it doesn’t FIT as an overall theme in HTTYD movies. It’s annoying to hear ppl say that “you just don’t like httyd3 cause you don’t understand the theme” No, I understand that this new theme is DUMB and a disservice to the story. You love that theme so much? Go explore it in another place. This is NOT the story for it. This is just not the story of HTTYD Dean, it’s just not the story YOU wrote. This was just not the story that has been told for 9 years. It was never established on the previous movies that this was the core theme. Or that they had any connection about the dragons disappearing, cause it was NEVER established as a mayor plot point. Like not even a HINT OF IT throughout the franchise and hell even the first two movies.
It may be a secondary theme in other micro subplots throughout the franchise (for instance idk letting dragons leave for a while to mate, stoick letting go of thornado, letting go of your pride, your selfish ways, letting go of your enemies) but this not the MAIN theme of the entire franchise, and changing it halfway through the LAST installment out of NOWHERE to make some fake deep "message" about letting go of your best friends for dumb ass reasons like "humans bad, dragon mate cute, and there is no reform so we'll have to wait for future generations until humanity is ready for dragons, also growing up is about settling down" is beyond bonkers.
“It’s difficult to let go of your loved ones and friends” Yes. It is. It’s a valuable thing to know when to let go but again, this is NOT THE STORY FOR THIS AND IT’S MOST DEFINITELY NOT SHOWN IN A HEALTHY MATTER. It’s borderline toxic the way they do it cause in Dean’a words: dragons are pets almost but ALSO wild beasts!and Toothless needs to return to his call for the wild cause he found a cute mate! So no. It’s NOT about friendship and letting go of your friends either, it’s about letting ur wild beast of a pet free because he found a mate, which is SUCH a misunderstanding of Toothless as a CHARACTER and his relationship with Hiccup as a whole. I hate this argument so much cause it’s NOT about “letting go of your friends” it’s about a cynical way to end a story because u wanted to separate ur main protagonists so bad for tear jerkers and we want to end like the books when we never cared about them in the first place…
The worst part of it, stop pretending that this is not because Dean wanted this ending so bad that he introduced new "themes" to the last movie to make it make sense cause the ONLY REASON HTTYD3 ended the way it did is because he wanted to "pay homage to the books and have the movies end the same" after ignoring them and what makes them different for almost a decade. Anything other than Dean wanting to put cheap fanservice with the "there were dragons when I was a boy" line is nothing shorter than cope. Cause that was all this was. Dean only inserted this “theme” as a way to make his new ending make sense. Not the other way around. It’s sloppy writing.
Also idk how many times I have to say this but the themes of the books and the themes of the movies are completely different and the letting go at the end of the BOOKS is resolved in such a vastly unconnected way to the movies it's almost insulting to compare them. Did u even read the books?
"HTTYD3 is about growing up" I'm sorry that was HTTYD2 theme already and I think it did a fantastic job at it. Hiccup had to mature sadly the hard way to understand himself and what he needs to do as a leader. THW could've been about dealing with grief and earning TRUST to make bonds stronger. But no. Also why is growing up into your own person has to involve "letting go" of your convictions in making the world a better place? Why is growing up automatically "settling down"? Istg these people have this idea of "growing up" like it's some 8th grade report. Having a family is growing up! It shows such an armature way of storytelling that's honestly dated by this point. WHAT is growing up in this case Dean? You said it yourself, come on. You wanted Hiccup to settle down with Astrid and Toothless to do the same and inserted a bunch of stupid plot point to make that happen in the end cause that’s your idea of growing up…
"HTTYD3 IS ABOUT LOVE!" This makes me mad cause... hasn't ALL of HTTYD been about love? The only difference is that THW is about ROMANTIC love and somehow that's become a priority. Cause there is no comradery there... at least not on Toothless's part (he didn’t givrE AF about Hiccup the whole movie). "Love" has been a BROADER theme of HTTYD all along. The love between Toothless and Hiccup was SO STRONG that it literally ended a war. The love between Hiccup and Stoick was so strong that he sacrificed himself for his son and his family and that made Hiccup see within himself that he IS also as great if not greater than his father to create a united world. The love Hiccup has for Dragons AND his People equally to create a world of peace…. The "love" between the Light Fury and Toothless actually tells us nothing. Nothing about their CHARACTERS, nothing about the WORLD, Hell not even anything about NATURE itself, and most certainly nothing about the actual theme of HTTYD; which, in case it wasn't clear, is BRINGING TWO WORLDS TOGETHER to stop wars THE HARD WAY and bring peace in a world full of shallow mindedness and bigotry. Cause in the end, all of that falls apart for the sake of "love".

Hijack week 2025 day 6: Love letters
To nobody's surprise, another AU!
Inspired by Letters to Juliet, they were childhood friends in the United States, and Hiccup had a hopeless crush on Jack he never really got over with. In the present day Jack is in Verona and helps writing responses to the letters people leave for "Juliet" (don't ask why. Fic logic.), until one day he reads one from a familiar adress. Well, it's time to find out if it's really his Hiccup, who's in Italy for a summer vacation.
This was just an excuse to throw them in an Italian setting, in Veneto specifically lol

OK, OK OK (play's AT ALL COSTS (DEMO) in the background)
So.... when the dragons came to take my life so to came rotg, and with them came my very old oc (Alira Yaz) that was especifically created for the latter.
I decided to redo a piece that is in a way canon to her story with Jack. I hadnt thought about this ship in ages until I heard the song "At all costs" from WISH and well. IT hit me that its song by Chris pine who is Jack's voice actor and so the brain coudlnt stop until I made something about it.
AND THIS IS SAID SOMETHING!! :D

I also started writting some stuff about her, like bits of her story and interactions with other characters and stuff. Might upload those here... maybe who knows.
I dont think I'll be doing much with her anymore but she had an special place in my heart. Also drawign her made me happy in the past (even if her design wasnt the best)
Here is the culprit for this idea and the brainrot I find myself at the moment.
youtube
Also, If you read all the way till here, frist of all thank you.
As a reward Ill leave Alira Yaz new design here for you to enjoy as well as the old version of the illustration above. (I see it and I cringe but we all came from somewhere and this is my past, my art past and I most embrace it)
Look at the change... god. SO OLD ART!!

in rotg when Pitch is persuading Jack to join him, after telling him that cold and dark go together, Jack ultimately refuses and begins to walk away. Pitch then reveals that he had Babytooth and offers a trade: BabyTooth for Jack's staff. He says "The staff, Jack! You have a bad habit of interfering." They make the trade and Pitch confidently snaps it after Babytooth pokes him. This, with the statement about the staff implies that Pitch knows it holds Jack's powers. Jack seems surprised that it physically hurt when the staff broke or when he couldn't fly and use ice powers to get out of the cavern. He couldn't get out until he fixed his staff. I'm wondering... how did Pitch know Jack's staff would hinder him like that? How did he know the staff had the power? North's swords don't have the same properties, taking Bunny's boomerangs would have the same effect (or would they?). Or is it just plot armor? What do you think?
oooo! i love rotg questions!
I don't think it's plot armour at all! I think it's established very early on as a weakness of Jack's, but also as a symbol of his character growth and confidence.
But to answer your actual question first!
It's not clear how Pitch deduced that Jack needed his staff, but I think it was a combination of things. First, Jack is incredibly attached to his staff,
Pitch specifically sees Jack in the 2 above scenes, being very defensive and almost using his staff as a security blanket.
Pitch also sees Jack use his staff to fight, there's several opportunities in the lead up to Sandy's death where Pitch could have seen at a glance the way Jack fights with only his staff (and not like, his hands),
he could also have seen how Jack lost his flight when his staff was knocked away from him,
or it could be because Jack points his staff at him when he goes nuclear,
He definitely plays with him in his lair, gets Jack on the defensive to see what he'd do,
knocking his staff away,
though whether this is to learn, confirm, or just torment him is unclear. And if that wasn't enough, the Antarctica fight has Jack wielding his staff very heavily,
So Pitch could've figured it out very last minute!
but, I also think Pitch fell into the (unintentional) trap of believing what Jack believes, and Jack thinks his power comes from his staff.
Which isn't true at all, the power comes from Jack himself, and his staff is just a conduit. Which is why it has frost when Jack touches it, but not when anyone else touches it,
Jack is the only one who can use the staff because it's tailored to his powers. but Jack believes that the powers originate from the staff, and so Pitch believes that by taking the staff, and destroying it, he'll have rendered Jack essentially mortal.
The scene itself, and Jack's attitude and connection to his staff imply that he's never broken it before, so the pain is likely a surprise (a happy one for pitch) for the both of them.
Jack's belief that his powers come from his staff, and having never broken it before, is part of why he gives up in that scene. He doesn't think he can mend his staff (so neither does Pitch).
The reason I don't think any of this is plot armour, is because Jack's shown that he believes the staff is the source of his power from the very beginning,
when the reality is that the power came from him all along, which is even hinted at several times, with the frost moving to follow his hand, disappearing when someone else or no one at all touches the staff. The explosion of power when he defeats Pitch comes from Jack's body, not his staff,
his relationship with his staff is one that symbolises his relationship with himself.
Jack isn't a very confident person - how much so is up to personal interpretation, but at the base of it, he's not confident in himself at all - he feels that he did something wrong to cause his isolation,
he feels that he is not a good fit for the Guardians (not that they're a bad fit for him),
he feels that he is the reason Sandy died,
the reason Babytooth was captured, the reason Easter is destroyed, and why the Guardians lose believers,
Regardless of personal interpretations, Jack is incredibly self depreciating, and lacking in self confidence.
Which is a massive part of his character arc, not because he gets over this aspect of himself - I doubt he'd be able to do that in 3 days, but in general I think this is something innate in Jack, he's sensitive and anxious but doesn't always show it - but because he starts to listen to the Guardians when they say they believe in him, not his staff, not some disembodied voice in the sky, but him.
(this is also why North is such a massive contributer to Jack's personal growth. the whole russian doll thing? notice how Jack actually puts his staff down to listen? how North is constantly talking about how there is something unique to Jack that makes him special? god that's a gorgeous scene...)
and that character flaw, his treatment of his staff as something better than he is? it all comes full circle when Jack figures out that the only thing that makes his staff special is him.
and the only way he was able to figure out he was special? Pitch falling into the trap of only seeing the worst in people, and seeing the worst in Jack specifically.
I think the entire sequence - of Jack believing he's nothing special, to believing his staff is special, to Pitch believing that the staff is special because of Jack's belief, to him destroying it, to Jack learning that the staff was never special - was intentional and thought out.
Pitch knows fear, he knows everyone's greatest fears,
Jack needs his staff to be special, if he's not special then he can't become a Guardian or interact with the world. If he's not special, then no one will ever believe in him, and his greatest fear is realised.
I think Pitch knew that and broke the staff not just as a "stay out of my business" insurance policy, but as a punishment, a way of forcing Jack to fear him and what he can do. To use Jack's fear to fuel his power,
or something. at least that's what I think, but it is open to interpretation because they don't really go into too much detail with Pitch's plans - just enough to make him look evil and get the gears turning but not enough to answer many questions, if any at all!
I hope that answered your question? I got a little lost in the sauce there I think lmao

There is this trend with and apple going around and I couldn't resist doign it with some of my oc's. This 2 are the protagonists of a story I'm still developing but it had been so long since I drew them that I needed to do the trend with them.

So.... I listen to the voices and decided to drop myself in the HTTYD universe.
Dreamer is my sona, I had to adapt her to the style of the shows/movies. Her abilities are the same:
she can fly with her wing cape (im working on an illustration about that, so soon near you)
can create things using other things
she is basically a witch... maybe we can consider her a druid in this universe... maybe, havent really thought about it to much.
No idea if she meets the main cast or na, given that she usually dont like interacting with main plots of the worlds she visits.
I also need a name for the 2 terrible terrors that she has... I had the idea to name one Mazapan which is a sweet from my country, but Im not sure yet.
Any suggestions are welcome.
