President Trump was elected fairly and in line with all proper process. How can the idea of impeaching him be anything other than a undemocratic coup and an outright declaration of war on the American people by the elites?

If he breaks a law, such as obstruction of justice, then impeachment and removal from office is the Constitutional mechanism in which the Congress can and should use to safeguard the republic. Impeaching him and removing him from office just because we don’t like him would be an “undemocratic coup” (And, by the way, aren’t all coups “undemocratic”? I’m pretty sure there aren’t any democratic coups. Those are just called elections.) Impeaching him and removing him from office because he obstructed justice – as in, just as a totally random example, if he had done something crazy like asking the FBI Director to drop a specific investigation and then firing him for not doing so – is a responsibility that each and every member of Congress takes an oath to uphold.

Also, I’m about as anti-Trump as any human being alive today, and I am certainly not an “elite”. I don’t even know who the “elites” are. They obviously aren’t as powerful and controlling as “average Americans” seem to believe. If President Trump breaks the law and is impeached and removed from office, it won’t be because of any “elites” who weren’t elected by the American people. It will be because members of the House of Representatives voted to impeach him and at least two-thirds of the Senate voted to remove him from office. And all of the people responsible for casting those votes are elected officials (and the majority are Republicans). Oh, and if President Trump is impeached and removed from office, he’ll be succeeded by another Republican – Mike Pence. So, basically, that would be a wildly ineffective “undemocratic coup”. There’s nothing undemocratic about enforcing the Constitution.
