so i was writing this headcanon for one of my characters, and it got me thinking about how some characters are absolutely, to their very core, protectors, and even then they still need protecting! so i made this list which is similar to about five other memes i've made. feel free to add a "reverse" if you so wish! Tolbert very nearly chased after Eskel's lips once the kiss broke. What stopped him was the other's gentle touch trailing over his scarred back, how sword and rein calluses grazed warped lines or dragged on smoother patches - all with only the intent to follow Tolbert's spine, and map the muscle beneath his skin. They never had cause to be demure about scars with each other, yet Tolbert's breath softly caught just the same.

One of his own palms cradled Eskel's cheek, while its opposite dipped teasingly past the collar of the other's shirt at the back of his neck, blunt nails skimming lighter skin with each curl of fingers. Tolbert smiled warm and wide enough for a flash of teeth, golden eyes lidded low as he rested his forehead against Eskel's.

"Always hoped for a chance," he agreed just as softly. "So now that we've got it, what else do you want to do?" Tolbert could think of several wonderful ideas, yet was similarly torn about whether to slip back upstairs to one of their rooms or to remain right where they were.

Eskel hummed softly as he lingered on Tolbert's lips for a little longer before they parted.

The fireplace was only glooming lightly, embers gleaming softly, but Eskel felt like that they either had to move upstairs or just be down here. The rest was asleep, or at least Eskel assumed so.

His hand under Tolbert's linen shirt trailed up and down wiry muscles but also the soft bumps of his back, every bone unique and for Eskel palpable.

He only brought enough space between them to press another short peck on Tolbert's lips.

"I thought we'd never do that," Eskel murmured.

Well, he wouldn't have done it if Geralt was around, but that bastard hadn't shown up in almost a decade now. Eskel didn't know what happened and he was too bitter to care.

This way, he got to find out about how much he loved Lambert, as well as Tolbert or even Gwain... All these chances had remained untaken for too long.

Basking in the now very real kisses with Eskel that he used to imagine on lonely nights, Tolbert let out another low, muffled noise at being pressed back against the table's surface. That first tug on his pants was enough to have him hurrying to help. Legs loosening around the Wolf's waist, his hands made quick work of unfastening his trousers and smallclothes. In the meantime, his feet adjusted to ease the removal of his boots.

Tolbert's breath stuttered as cool air surrounded his blood-warmed length, only winding up his anticipation further. His next inhale caught, before it became an earnest, almost pleading moan as their lips met yet again. His hand buried in Eskel's hair, while his other gripped one shoulder. Much as he did want to just clutch close to his favorite Wolf, that could come after Tolbert was all oiled up and likely shaking with need.

Leaning in for a light, tender kiss to Eskel's lower lip and a nudge of their noses, he let the gestures and his expression answer for him. Tolbert turned where he lay, bracing his feet on the floor with his length hanging just below the table's edge, and was passingly glad he'd kept his wool socks on. Sweeping the longer backs of his coat and tunic away from his rear, he noticed the bottle of oil still sitting nearby and slid it toward Eskel. "This should do."

He noticed some of the effect his question had on Eskel, and much as he wanted to know every tempting idea that might have crossed the other’s mind, he waited to hear an answer. Or to feel one. He adored Eskel’s voice, but knew some of his brethren preferred to be more action than talk.

That single word sent a greater wave of desire tingling through his body. A rush of warmth followed in its wake, leaving patches of pink high on tawny cheeks. The idea of spending an entire day and to the next morning in Eskel’s bed sounded like perfection. It also sounded like something they could do later. Tolbert was just about to back up against the table, to check what was on it - only to find Eskel doing both for him, in a far less patient way than he’d planned. At least he didn’t hear any glass or pottery breaking, so it would be easier to clean up.

Then cleaning was the last thing on his mind. Hooking his legs around Eskel’s waist, Tolbert followed that pull without hesitation and let his hands slide up from shoulders to jawline. An unabashed, eager groan escaped into their kiss. If the Wolf hadn’t started talking after they parted, Tolbert would have chased after those lips. “Gods, I want all of those,” he admitted on a breath. “But after this. Right now, this is perfect.” Underlining his words with another open-mouthed kiss and a thorough tongue, Tolbert tightened his legs to pull Eskel even closer.

He knew the table was strong enough to withstand them. He’d noticed Merek having a passionate reunion with Everard on it the other day, when he’d returned to the storeroom to fetch extra spice for his dinner.
