All about National Technology Day 2021
It’s National Technology Day today, May 11th, 2021!!! Being an IT and Software Professional Services Company, Alpha InfoLab is extremely excited to celebrate this day with everyone. We had first celebrated National Technology Day on May 11th, 1999. This year’s theme is “Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”.

Why is National Technology Day is Celebrated?
National Technology Day is celebrated to honour all Indian scientists, astronomers, engineers. All enthusiasts who have been instrumental in leading India into the Age of Technology.
Significance of National Technology Day
The National Technology Day reflects the day when India became a part of the elite world’s nuclear weapons group. On May 11, 1998, when the Indian Army conducted three nuclear tests at Pokhran in Rajasthan, under Shakti operation. On May 13th two more nuclear tests were conducted. Late APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s former President had led all the nuclear tests.
On May 11th, 1998, India also launched its first indigenous aircraft Hansa-3 designed by the National Aerospace Laboratory.
Another important achievement by India was to successfully test-fire Trishul, India’s surface-to-air missile.
About National Technology Day:
Since all these technological achievements by day were done on May 11th, the Government of India declared May 11th as the National Technology Day.
This day every year is celebrated fervently by the Ministry of Science and Technology by holding seminars and workshops and the chief guest is the President of India, who confers awards to scientists and engineers for their contributions.
Using Technology for Transforming India
India has always been at the forefront of technology. Even in the ancient Indian texts, there has been mention of weapons and warheads that we are now using.
Technology has been driving transformation in India, whether it be military technology or Information Technology through IT companies sprouting in IT hubs across the country. There is also Digital Transformation taking place.
Digital transformation is setting the pace for future innovations and customized solutions for Indians who live in rural and urban areas. In a March 2019 report by Mckinsey Global Institute, India is projected to proliferate Digital Technology across sectors by 2025. The GDP level of core Digital sectors could reach $435 billion through Digital transformation. The core digital sectors include IT and Business Process Management, Digital Communication services, and Electronics manufacturing.
The McKinsey report, also mentions that there are some newly digitised sectors that will emerge to create value worth $10 billion to $150 billion by 2025. These newly digitised sectors are education, agriculture, energy, financial services, healthcare, logistics, retail, government services, labour markets, etc.
Digital Transformation is set to create customized digital applications for the above sectors in accelerating output, save costs and time, reduce fraud, and improve demand and supply chain. The Financial Services sector is expected to see $170 billion of exponential growth through digitalisation.
There is hope that other nascent sectors like agriculture, education, and healthcare will be able to adopt digital transformation in the coming years.
On this promising note, Alpha InfoLab, a Business IT solutions company, wishes all technology enthusiasts a very Happy National Technology Day. Let’s look to Science and Technology for sustainable future !!!
