for the first time in history, bees have been to be added to the united states federal list of endangered and threatened species. thirty percent of our food is directly pollinated by bees, which represents billions of dollars in value each year to the agricultural economy.
there’s a quote attribted to albert einstein that while likely apocryphal is nevertheless worth sharing, that ““if the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. no more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”
