Had a small presentation of past years NMP PDFS. Really good work. Took some inspiration away for laying out mine!

t_mr_m. Design ANNA KATRIN KARLSSON. A simple and effective visual display of text and images. It is work like this that, I am looking at to get a greater depth of understanding, as well as from other mediums, however, actual magazine/zine work like this is a real life project undertaken by a designer to showcase artwork and photographs of scenery and people, to be displayed as part of an art gallery.

Management of art galleries. Magnus Resch. This work was found on behance whilst strolling for inspiration and similar work as well as added research. The basic red and white colours used add a simplicity styled look that bode well with the layout that uses black text and red and white graphics/info graphics. Very inspiring stuff.

With the recent change in logo and style that I would choose to carry on throughout the booklet/zine, I will have to use a similar continuous style to make sure it works well, makes sense and is a well designed booklet for both child and even parent to enjoy. The one on the left being the logo I have chosen as my final for now, unless any colour or positioning needs to be made.

A really interesting book making video, on how to quickly make little books/zines with conceptual art style drawings and quick sketches to make very unique, one of a kind and playful books.

My Design and Play logo for my children’s graphic design book.

With this final logo design, I begun finalising the position of it making sure it was styled most suitably and that made sense as to what it was, and most importantly, making suitable for the parents of the children, as tthet will be the ones buying it. Also, for the children as they need to find it appealing so their parents will want to buy it for them.
I would lie to look at an educational angle as a USP, as if it’s an educational book, parents might be more willing to buy it, instead of just being a magazine or something similar.

I started working on a different typeface which is made from different coloured blocks, and pen made shapes, with different opacity levels and thickness. I like this style as it comes off as a bit more design relatable and perhaps, more suitable for young children. The top one was made with a few more colours, than the bottom one as i wanted to make it stand out a bit more, however the pink and blue one was made to suit both males and females. Although, I think with that colour combination, it looks a bit babyish.

Working on the original logo idea, I wasn’t too sure on the colour of the ‘&’ block or the opacity level of the words, so I played around with it more, adjusting it to a suitable setting. Also as you see with the first two images, I added more colour to see what works a little better.
With this progression, I want to see it perhaps I should be little bit more creative with colour choice, as this is a design book for kids, that will use a large portion of colour in it. Also, the actual type it self, should it be a bit more adventures, creative, playful...?

Having a further look into development, I tried different fonts which all held a unique and playful aspect which is perfect for my book. They don't have a constricting style which comes of as boring or too structured, which isn’t the style I’m going for, for this project, however, it’s something i think I will look more into, making the logo come off as more playful and fun.
Colour is also an important as I need it to be gender neutral as it’s both females and males, and don’t want one of them too think it’s to manly or girly, but somewhere in the middle, to suit both.
With these fonts above, however I still like them, however not really for the logo, but I might use them within the book for titles, headings so on.

I also pitched these two just for a closer look into the paper use, layout and type choice. They also make as nice gifts for design lovers alike and friends and family.

A small beak book zine with classic and foreign stamps and a zine named, Counter point-WATER. Both very interesting and nicely designed, the stamp one being very minimal and classic feeling, the water one using interesting print processes, riso and mono printing, with images and body of texts payed out in various positions. This will come I handy when it comes to laying out the DESIGN AND PLAY design book

A few more zines and small card publications, some of photographs of photographers taking photos, interesting concept, and also a zine with photographs taken around I pressure town with less popular locations. Also, the looney tunes character image zine by Martin Willson, printed on brown card, with black and white images, which I purchased for keep sakes, as it suits the younger audience and would make a nice gift for my younger niece.

I popped in MAGMA zine shop in town for more research into how a variety of different types of zine, books and other publications are printed and presented. Each having targeted it self to a different audience type, age, style and preference and for whatever reason it was made for. A lot of inspiring stuff in there, with talented creators, artists and designers. As I've taken a few pictures, I'll post the rest in another post.
