“Never heard of it.” She said with a shake of her head, leaning down to attach the leash to Atticus’s collar when he finally made his way over to her, tail wagging as his tongue hung out the side of his mouth, as if he was smiling. Scratching behind the dog’s ears for a moment, Lola stood back up and opened the front door. “Always hangry, no. Always angry… maybe. I’m actually the Hulk, I don’t know if you were aware of that.” She teased back, allowing Ally to walk out of the apartment first before exiting herself and locking the door behind them.
“You don’t get out much, do you?” Ally teased grinning over at Lola and she followed her out the door. “You been holding out on me, Cortez? If I knew you could turn into a hulking big green guy I would have signed us up for tag team wrestling a long time ago,” She joked.

“Nope. I kidnapped this kid. I thought he was cute and he was the only one who’d take the candy! So, here we are.” He thought the joke was funny at the time but after saying it out loud it sounded horrible. “That wasn’t funny, I’m sorry. No, I am not the ‘hot babysitter’, but yes I am the ‘hot dad’.” He smiled and shook his head before extending his hand. “Wyatt LeBlanc.”
“I know you’re joking, but there’s a decent amount of people around this town who would actually do that,” She laughed. “Well it’s nice to meet you Mr. Hot Dad. I’m Ally and I’m just hot I’m afraid,” She joked back.

“Oh…” his brows are still furrowed. “I… didn’t realize that was a thing. I mean I knew The Bachelor was. Allison and I watch it occasionally. But I didn’t know there was a fantasy league behind it. What do’ya get if you win?”
“Oh yeah. It’s a thing. A very competitive thing. And pride, a free bottle of champagne, a weekend getaway and your friends not signing you up behind your back to go on the show? Want to play?”

“I wasn’t implying that you had to.” Ava correctly, she shrugged lightly. What Ally still did stealing wise was her business, considering the family they came from she didn’t have a right to judge. “It’s not that I wanted to be out of the business it’s just that the thrill of it was gone. It hadn’t been there for a long time so I’ll live with stealing and taking what I want here and there. It’s been working out for me nicely so far.” She barely wanted for anything anymore, it was all purchased or bought by those compelled or those she stole from. “Yeah, but you’re also family it’s different. You’re not some outsider I have to tell about our lives, they are. Most outsides aren’t Cain and just accept this lifestyle and take to it. Plus then I have to get into the story of our crazy sister and it’s like falling down a habit hole of crazy.” Just thinking about Alina made Ava feel uncomfortable, she felt like the more she said her name the more it was going to end up summoning her to town. “Oh—“ She realized she hadn’t even considered vampirism a solution to Ally’s mortality. “I’m not calling you selfish? Why is that the first place you assume I would go?” Questioning Ally with a raised eyebrow. “I get wanting to turn to be with those you love. It’s not selfish, it just is what it is. I just didn’t realize that is what you wanted. I mean we’ve never really talked about you turning.” She pointed out with a shrug. “If you want to turn I respect your decision. Did I think I only had like eighty more years left in life? Yeah, but I’ll take longer with you. There’s nobody else in the world I want more time with other than you.” Reaching out, she gave Ally’s hand a squeeze. “You can’t ground me, Old Woman.” Replying back with a smile, she continued to play with the figure for a moment before putting it back on her desk. “And I have yours. I just want you to know that. No matter what you choose down the line I’m always going to support you.”
“Well to be honest, it’s not like Cain was an outsider when we started to you know? He was already way too in deep with the whole stealing thing,” Ally said with a little shrug. “But, I get how hard it can be. I used to date none thieves too and it was- weird to say the least. Like Jake back in college. But, it will be okay, alright? One day one guy will learn the truth and not care,” She told her sister reassuringly. “Because it is selfish,” ally said quietly with a little shrug. “I wouldn’t turn for Cain. I’m not going to turn for a guy. I- I’d turn because I don’t want to get old and die. I’m vain. I like looking young and being young. I like magic too, but I’d rather survive I guess,” Ally said with a shrug. “Can too. I’ll get you my pretty and your little dog too,” Ally replied flicking a paper clip off of Ava’s desk in her direction playfully. “Thanks Sis. And sorry for ruining your death day plans.”

“I want to, yes, I think it’d be hot having sex in the woods,” he pointed out. “But that wasn’t exactly the purpose here. If you want to change the plans though…I can take my shirt off right now.”
Cain loved how her face lit up. He reminded himself in that moment that he did that. The man that didn’t believe he had a truly romantic or genuine bone in his body had done that for her. When she quoted 10 Things I Hate about you he smirked. It turned into a soft smile at her last words. His lips touched hers softly when she’d finished speaking. “You should know I’ve always known you didn’t hate me. You think we’re going to get to see any of this carnival, or are you satisfied right here, because I could do this all day,” he told her, nuzzling his nose against hers before placing another chaste kiss on her lips. Honestly he could kiss her for the rest of the day and hold her in his arms. He didn’t know hat come over him, just that one day, all of a sudden he was satisfied, content and happy with just this, just her. She was truly all he needed.”
“Well if you’re offering, porque no las dos?” She teased, “Shirtless you and a carnival. What more could a girl ask for?” She asked, her heart skipping a beat with each kiss. Ally had never been much of the sentimental type, but the way he looked at her made her heart melt. She had never had a guy look at her like that and as her gaze met his, she couldn’t help but think she was screwed. Ally had spent years doing everything she could to protect her heart. She had been happy on her own. She liked being independent and had never once wanted to be the girl with the heart eyes for some silly guy. But, here she was, head over heels, and it scared the living crap out of her. “I mean I’m happy right here, but since you did put all this work in,” She trailed off reaching out and weaving her hand through his. “Lead the way, boyfriend?”

“I mean, I ran out in your path to grab a can of-” he looked at the fruit. “mandarin oranges.” He looked up and let out a sigh. “Mason obviously knew something I didn’t because these were supposed to be peaches.” He looked at the toddler and shook his head. “Good job, monster.” He looked back to the woman. “Still sorry for literally sticking my head in your way.”
“And miss out on this whole little encounter? Never,” She shrugged, giving the kid a little wave before turning back towards the man and asking him curiously, “So, I take it you and Evie, you know? Unless, you’re just the hot babysitter?”

“The slowest since the pie shop isn’t open yet. So I get to spend my days wandering around town, grabbing food from the bakery and planting my happy ass on the couch of the cafe waiting to people to come to me.” She let out a big dramatic sigh that earned a curious eye or two from the people around them. “Are you here to save me from the boredom that threatens my very existence?”
“Well since you’ve put it like that, sure! Think of me like your knight in shinning armor,” Ally teased, giving the girl a playful bow.

“Like with the show the bachelor? You can create fantasy teams in a fantasy league and make bets on whose going to win the final rose. It’s like football but more of a trainwreck.”

“What is Wicked?” She asked, still confused. Shaking her head and dismissing the Wicked aspect of her conversation, Lola stood up and stretched. “Good because I’m getting… what is it they say? Hangry?” Smirking, Lola moved over to the front door and grabbed Atticus’s leash and whistled for the dog to come to her. “Somewhere we can sit outside. It’s nice out and I’m tired of being indoors.”
“A famous musical? It’s a spoof on the Wizard of Oz? You know what, never mind,” She let out a laugh, shaking it off. “Oh please. You’re always hangry,” Ally laughed popping up from the couch. “Works with me. Somewhere we can get you a snickers too?” She teased, referencing the ‘you’re not you when you’re hungry’ commercials.

“Compared to what we use to steal it’s a lot less valuable. I mean nobody is going to miss a pair of shoes in a size seven.” Rolling her eyes at Ally’s words even though she was right. Stealing always did give the best high, it helped her forget about the world around her. During the planning of events she always found little trinkets in her coat and purse that she’d stolen without a second thought. Stealing had just became the way she’d learned to cope over the years. “I know. It’s not easy telling someone and hoping they’ll accept you. I mean what’s the likely hood that they would anyways.” Rubbing the back of her wrist. This conversation was a reminder why she only allowed people so close, because the closer they got the more likely they were to find out about her and her families live style. “I mean you’re a witch Ally so it does have an end date. You dying is that end date.” Ava pointed out with a soft tone, she swallowed hard at her words. “It kind of comes with the territory of dating a vampire, you know? Either you turn or you enjoy the time you have while you’re alive.” While they talked about mortality Ava realized that everyone she cared about but Cain would be gone. Sure some would last longer than others, but everyone would eventually meet the end. “Awww but your cheeks are just so pinch-able.” Ava teased, she leaned back against her desk. Picking up the little glass figure of Lady that set next to her computer and she smiled. “I know it’s weird for me to say this because I’m the one constantly itching to leave everywhere, but I really it here Ally. Well I like the people here and the fact that despite the occasional bombing or two it feels safe-ish here. At least safer than I’ve felt in a long time. Thank you for coming here with me and thank you for staying. I could never do any of this without you.”
“Correction, what you used to steal. What I still do. Just because you decided to take a break from the family business, doesn’t mean I have,” Ally said with a little shrug. Ally had only taken a break from it once and look what that had gotten her? She was criminal, born and raised, and she was proud of it. She loved the thrill of completely a job and she loved how Cain didn’t try to stop her. She wasn’t her without it. Without stealing, without the rush, she would be her anymore. It wasn’t just a coping method for Ally. It was who she was in her bones. And she loved it more than anything. Every time she did a job, she felt alive and closer to their parents than she could. “It’s why I’m a thief. Can’t judge you when they do it too,” She said with a shrug. Shaking her head as her sister reminded her of her mortality. “And? There’s an easy solution, Ava. Called Vampirism?” She told her sister softly back, knowing her sister wouldn’t like that option- the fact that Ally might one day willingly give up her powers. But, Ally, love her sister with all her might, didn’t care. She loved being a witch, she did. She loved her powers almost as much as she loved to steal. But, what Ally had learned, the realization that had been forced upon her the second that man had put his hands on her, was that what Ally cared about more than being a witch, was being someone who survived. Ally wasn’t like her sister. She loved magic, but had never cared to be mortal. She had become power hungry and selfish with age. And whether she stayed with Cain or not, whether they could make it work, didn’t change that. “I know what it entails, Ava. But I’m not the type of person whose going to sit around getting old while the person I’m with stays young. Call me selfish, all you want. But, it’s just not me.” Ally glared over at her sister at the comment. “Don’t make me ground you, Kiddo.” Ally glanced over to the little glass figure in Ava’s hand and gave her a nonchalant shrug. “Of course. I got your back little sis. You know that. Always.”

“Shouldn’t I be the one apologizing? I mean I almost ran over you with a cart. You could have been severely or worse,” She teased, giving him a little shrug, followed by a small smile.
Mason had been making grabby hands at the canned fruit for so long that Wyatt had eventually just let him hold them. Grocery store visits were not fun with children no matter how well behaved they were. Mostly since Wyatt spent more time getting food for his son than even thinking about food for himself. Well, he could always live off chocolate pudding as well. He was busy inspecting the cereal when he heard the metal can hit the ground. “Dude,” Wyatt said to Mason with a sigh before bending down to retrieve the can and almost getting hit with someone’s cart. “Oh! Sorry, I didn’t see you there!”

“Nah. I was going to pop up on the counter and eat my pie up there,” Ally teased, giving Ronnie a little shrug as she sat on the arm rest of the couch. “Slow day at work, huh?”
Ronnie knew the couch in the cafe was for multiple people to sit down but it didn’t stop her from taking up entirely too much room as she laid across half of it with her legs dangling over the side. She was busy enjoying the pastry she probably wasn’t supposed to have brought in with her when she noticed someone standing there. “Oh, my bad,” she said sitting up suddenly. “Did you want to sit here?“ She could always use them as a pillow if she needed to!

Cain rolled his eyes as she mentioned him driving her out to have sex in the woods. “Do you think I’d think so little of you that I’d want to have sex with you in the woods? I mean I want to have sex with you everywhere, but right now no that’s not what I’m doing,” he said then. He playfully rolled his eyes when she said he was cute. “I’m not cute. Have you seen me? I’m supposed to be rugged and hot. Handsome. Sexy even.” When she said that she trusted him, he lifted her hand and kissed the back of it.
He laughed then. “No, that’s what I want for my birthday, you with a bow on you,” he joked. “Yep, picturing it now…yes. That’s perfect.” Cain winked at her, grinning as they joked easily as they walked. “Yes, a carnival.” Every part of this had been worth it. Every single plan for this was all for this reaction. The way her heart raced, the way she blushed burying her face into his chest. “Yeah yeah. I’m sure you do hate me.” His arms wrapped around her, giving her a gentle squeeze. “You’re not supposed to compete. You’re supposed to let me, a man that has watched every frown, here far away and distant look when your mind goes to an unpleasant place, make you blush and smile.” Normally, he was awkward with emotion, but not today. He vowed to himself that he wouldn’t be today. “I just want to make you happy Ally. For as long as you’ll let me,” he told her honestly, and more vulnerably than he’d actually intended to.
“Do you not want to have sex with me in the woods?” She countered, letting out a little laugh as he continued on. “Take off your shirt and then I promise to call you all different kinds of sexy,” She teased, giving his hand a little squeeze as she let him lead her to the spot he had set up.
“Noted,” She said, beaming up at him. She couldn’t remember the last time she had smiled that much in her life. Not even back before all of the crap had happened in her life. There was just something about him that made her light up like a christmas tree and being here, fingers intertwined in his, she couldn’t help but note that she was finally starting to feel herself again- finally starting to feel like that girl she had once known back before her brief college tragedy. “I hate you so much it makes me sick, it even makes me rhyme,” She mumbled, quoting 10 Things I Hate about you and not daring to lift her head up from where it was hidden against his chest knowing fairly well that her entire face must be bright red. She stood there listening to his every word, taking them all in, but not knowing what to say in return. Never in a million years had she ever expected Cainan King of all people to tell her that he was going to stick by her side no matter what. But, here he was telling her everything she had ever needed to hear. But, as she parted her lips to speak, she realized the one thing she wanted to tell him was the three words she was still just a bit too afraid to say. So, instead of completely putting her heart out on the table, she took a little step back, giving him the smallest hint of a smile. “But, mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.”

“Just because I’m dramatic doesn’t mean my life is interesting. A year and a half ago maybe? Now?” Putting both her hands up while she cringed. “I mostly just snatch a few things I like from stores, hang out here doing work, go home to my dog, and occasionally hang out with you, Cain, Issy, or Nate. My life isn’t dramatic or exciting.” Shrugging at her words, compared to their lives before this was actually pretty calm and relaxing. “No– they didn’t.” Putting her hand to stop Ally’s words. “I haven’t told anyone about the stealing because it’s not really their business. Plus it’s not really a conversation starter. Like oh hey you see these two thousand dollar shoes I have on? I totally stole them.” Rolling her eyes, she stared down at her shoes for a long moment. Looking up towards Ally and she shrugged again at her words. “I hear you, but I’m not worried about it, Big Sis. I’m happy right now. I have you, Cain, my job, and great friends. It’s enough right now.” Rubbing Ally’s arm lightly to let her know she was okay at least for right now. Despite how much she hated being like this she was learning to adjust. It wasn’t easy, she still wished she could go back everyday but if she just kept pushing forward eventually it would all come to an end. Hugging Ally back tightly, she ran a hand over her sisters dark hair. “He does. It’s a good thing Ally. Embrace it and enjoy it for as long as possible.” Telling her sister with a smile of her own, she playfully pinched Ally’s cheeks like a grandmother. “See look at this smile. The people of Hollow Grove deserve to see it more and now they might actually get to.”
“Says the robber. Five finger discount is still stealing. And stealing is by natural both dramatic and exciting,” She pointed out with a shrug. “Good. Best to keep what we do within the family. If you know what I mean?” Ally shrugged, not really wanting to have any more liabilities running around than necessary. “If you say so,” Ally said with a little smile, glad her sister was okay despite it all. “As long as possible?” Ally quirked up an eyebrow at that, slightly confused by what Ava was getting at. “You make it sound like it has an end date?” She asked, biting down at her lower lip at the thought. Her eyes quickly shooting up again, knocking Ava’s hands out of the way before she warned her baby sister, “Pinch my cheek again and I’ll put you in a headlock while I watch the entire next episode of the Bachelorette. That’s over an hour worth of neck cramping.”

“What are you going on about?” She asked, eyebrows raised as she didn’t recognize the song. “Nevermind, shush. I’m not starting this over again.” She nudged Ally gently before turning her attention back to the screen and watching the duration of the film. Once the credits began to roll, Lola leaned forward and grabbed the remote. “I’m starving, we should get food.” She said, clicking out of the film and beginning to stroll through Netflix’s other options. “And I have to walk Atticus, you wanna come or are you still hiding out?”
“You seriously have never seen Wicked?” Ally asked, quirking an eyebrow up at her in shock. Letting out a muffled laugh as Lola shushed her. “Sounds good with me. I think the coast might be clear now? Where do you want to eat?”
