it's really funny to me that the mcu came from this idea of using the 2000s politicized white boy character study obsession that gave us shit like breaking bad, as opposed to big/loud action movies that are more additions to a franchise than they are movies on their own. like early mcu was a response to previous superhero movies and post-9/11 action movies. they were trying to make superhero movies with clear political statements similar to the original wwii era comics, and trying to use film as a way of humanizing these larger-than-life characters. now they've become the exact thing they were trying to provide an alternative from and it's dc making movies like the batman and gunn's superman as a direct counter to mcu slop fatigue. truly you either die a late 2000s hero or live long enough to see yourself become a 2020s villain. unless you're james gunn i guess.

Saw somebody on tiktok discussing it that people are apparently claiming "Mr. Terrific doesn't sound smart."

The man goes on to say that Terrific has largely been written by white men so he's never really spoken with much AAVE in the comics. But that now with Edi taking head he's breathed life into him. And the newest Mr. Terrific Year One redoing his origin story definitely does have AAVE

He also points out the same happened with Ryan Coogler. That people couldn't wrap their damn heads around the fact that somebody with an Oakland accent could actually talk about film with nuance and skill. Yall are racist as hell.

Mr. Terrific speaks with confidence. He's speaks like he's the smartest man in the room because he is. Some say he should sound like Reed Richards. That is old and tired. Some of yall just don't like to acknowledge that intelligence and AAVE can exist at the same time. That somebody talking like he does IS scholarly.

People don't know what code switching is and that's clear. I am so proud of Edi for stepping up and being able to do so much for this role and in turn the characters as a whole.

I should not have to hold anybodys hand and say the AAVE that EVERYBODY appropriates on a daily massive scale claiming it "Doesn't sound intelligent" is racist bullshit.

Every quip and line and bit of his identity he has makes his character better. It is earned and real and 100% intelligent. What in the hell
