Eijun ducked a neon green glob as it flew toward his face. On immediate contact with the ground, the acid hissed as fumes rose from the slow-spreading puddle. While he may have avoided one, Eijun still had to jump over another spot of toxic ooze. This wasn't anything new, however, as a good portion of the floor now had a rancid layer of acid. The toxic puddles themselves had quickly grown to be a problem with how frequently they were shot out from all orifices of the toads.   The battle initially began nice and organized, per usual. They divided into teams to focus on each toad. Miyuki and Yui made first contact with their designated boss as the whole team began the assault to whittle the damned things down. The melee struggled quite a bit, what with the natural poisonous slime that coated the toad's bumpy flesh, causing any who made direct contact to suffer from their toxin. Eijun spent a good portion of time bouncing around from melee to melee, in an attempt to cleanse them all repeatedly.

Akihito apprehensively sits on one of the bar stools, eyes darting between Asami and Kirishima; the latter of which, has set the bags down on the counter, pulling out an assortment of ingredients. Asami reclaims the cup, fills it again, and sets it down in front of Akihito. Reluctantly, he lifts the cup to his lips, sipping at its contents while keeping a watchful eye.  "So? Why am I here?" Akihito asks again, seeing as no one else is going to break the silence first. He just wishes his voice wasn't so weak and hoarse; it really puts a damper on attempting to sound authoritative and stern. Asami simply stares, golden gaze seemingly piercing straight through Akihito, causing him to shift uncomfortably on his stool, yet he refuses to break eye contact. Asami leans back against the counter, next to where Kirishima is preparing some fruits. Compared to Akihito's first exposure to Asami, this one comes off as significantly more relaxed. Maybe it's because he's dressed down in a simple shirt and slacks, while Kirishima still dons a full suit. Akihito wonders if Kirishima only owns suits, which quickly brings the mental image of him sleeping in a full three-piece, with the added details of a nightcap and sleep mask. Akihito has to bring the cup to his mouth to hide the smile threatening to spread across his face. He's trying to keep this conversation serious, dammit! This isn't the time for his brain to conjure up such ridiculous images.

Mina was pleasantly surprised —ecstatic even— as she tunes in to Miyuki's most recent stream. It was currently summer break, which means that Mina has been able to catch streams live more frequently, without being trapped at school for most of the day. Of course, she still had plans with some of her friends, but she spends a good chunk of the time at home. Her reasoning was that she could only handle so much human interaction before it becomes draining on her emotionally, and mentally. She needs to recharge as much as possible before school starts back up again, and what better way than to sit back with a SteelTanuki stream?

Most importantly, today it appears that Eijun was finally the star of the show. 

Currently, Eijun was standing —awkwardly— alone in the center of a kitchen, with white countertops lined up behind him, and a matching island in front, separating him and where the camera must be perched. There aren't many appliances that have been left out other than a microwave built in above the stove and a knife rack attached to the wall next to the sink. Everything else must have been tucked away into their respective homes, leaving most of the counter space clear for whatever it was they had planned. 

Eijun's eyes dart nervously to somewhere off-camera, appearing only seconds away from dashing off-screen and to the safety of another room entirely. Mina herself was curious as to where Miyuki had disappeared to, he was obviously nearby recently to start the stream but must have peaced out for some reason or another. Which, amusingly and unfortunately, left poor Eijun alone in front of the camera. Even after Miyuki had forcibly brought Eijun on-screen on several prior occasions, he still clearly struggles with how he's supposed to act. Apparently being completely solo, he has even less idea about what he's required to do or say.

"Okumura Koushuu?" Yuuki stated though his eyes remained locked onto the piece of parchment in front of him. 

"Yes."

"Class?" 

"Berserker." 

"Main role?"

"Tank." 

EIjun's eyes darted between Yuuki and Okumura as the interview progressed. Though the conversation itself wasn't very riveting. 

It just so happened that Eijun had been with Miyuki and Haruichi when Yuuki hunted Miyuki down to sit in for the interview. Out of boredom and curiosity, Eijun tagged along and no one said anything about it; maybe except for Okumura, though he hadn't vocally spoken his inquiries, instead, sent Eijun the occasional side-eye. It didn't help that Yuuki introduced himself as the captain and Miyuki as the main tank, yet here Eijun sat, currently nameless. 

They were settled in one of the smaller, unused conference rooms in Seido, with he, Yuuki, and Miyuki sitting on one side of the sole wooden table, while Okumura was on the other. Okumura was rigid in his chair, yet his eyes were narrowed into a glare; whether from anger, nerves or that was simply how his face was, Eijun couldn't be sure.

Being witness to the interview brought Eijun back to when he first arrived at Seido, which was a vastly different experience than what Okumura had to sit through. Befuddled, Eijun leaned closer to Miyuki, and with a hand shielding his mouth he whispered, "Why is this so different than when I joined?"

So far, Miyuki had been leaned back in his chair, arms folded across his chest the entire duration of the interview. Even now, his gaze was hyper-focused on Okumura, almost as if he were searching him for something. However, because of that, Miyuki didn't respond right away. In fact, he took so long that Eijun had to wonder if he even heard the question at all. Yet, just when Eijun began to debate asking again or waiting until after, Miyuki tilted his head toward Eijun, eyes still trained on Okumura, and mumbled, "You were recruited. He applied."

Only several days after Shogun's Keep, they arrived at Dekishi Depths. It was located off the coast of Yokohama, and they had to be up at the ass-crack of dawn as the only time Dekishi Depths was accessible was during low tide. They had to traverse over damp, barnacle-covered rocks until they found the entrance to the cave that led to Dekishi Depths' portal. 

Throughout the progression of the raid, Kazuya kept a watchful eye on Sawamura. After the completion of Shogun's Keep, Sawamura had been quiet and withdrawn, and Kazuya had a strong hunch about what the cause was. The fact that Furuya obtained a legendary weapon, subsequently making Sawamura the only one without, had to have been a devastating blow; considering he had been talking about acquiring one for months now.

It wasn't until Kazuya caught Sawamura moping around Seido's hall that he pulled him aside and dragged him to a dungeon two towns over. The dungeon wasn't difficult enough that they would be required to have a full party of six, and considering that both he and Sawamura had better gear, it was a piece of cake with just the two of them. However, Kazuya made sure to drag it out by only being on defense, which forced Sawamura into the role of sole damage dealer. But his plan worked, and Sawamura was soon laughing and cussing at Kazuya.   

After that was said and done, Sawamura appeared lighter, though Kazuya was convinced he still pondered his lack of a legendary weapon, but at least he moved past the moping phase and more toward his jubilant self.

They continued further into the bowels of the castle, wherein the temperature rapidly began to climb, melting the constant ice that clung to the walls and patches along the floor. The best part about the sudden rise in temperature was that they no longer had to deal with korizo. Though in Eijun's opinion, it was a little too late, as they'd already had to fight a total of five groups of the bastards.

If Eijun never had to deal with them again, it would still be too soon.

In place of korizo, they encountered flame sprites, and fortunately, they weren't nearly as troublesome to deal with; though they had their own fair share of quirks, with their penchant to float toward the ceiling and effectively limit those that could hit them. This meant only Tanba, Kawakami, Furuya, and Eijun were able to attack them, which left the rest to cheer from the sidelines; useless. With only four attackers, it took a while longer to kill them all, as they were also tasked with evading the wisps of fire that the flame sprites shot from the safety of ceiling corners. But in the end, Seido prevailed.

So after hours of wandering the endless halls, fighting anything they came across; they finally happened upon the boss room.

Kazuya slides into the backseat of Kataoka's car alongside Sawamura. So far, no one has uttered a word, leaving them to sit in uncomfortable silence. Kataoka pulls away from the heat shelter and merges into the midday traffic. Movement from the corner of his eye draws his attention to Sawamura, who pulls his bag onto his lap and hugs it to his chest. His mortification was palpable in the way his face was aflame, eyes darting around the interior of the car, but never focusing on any of the other occupants. Kazuya himself can't help but smirk at the reaction. No doubt, Sawamura is finally realizing that Kataoka has a good idea of all that went down last night.

To be fair, anyone would under those circumstances. 

He debates for several minutes on whether he should poke fun, to see just how red Sawamura's face can get, yet ultimately decides against it; for now at least. Maybe in a week, he'll bring it up to remind Sawamura of this day. After the day he had yesterday, Kazuya figures Sawamura has earned some time with minimal amounts of teasing.

They pass through the final gate, panting heavily; breaths visible puffs in the air. Group two triumphed the first two gates, though group one snuck a victory at the third. This applied exceeding amounts of pressure for the fourth, and final gate; which just so happened to be about a couple of kilometers longer than the previous. If they didn't want to end the race in a tie, group two had to claim that final win. It wouldn't be as grand as a four-to-zero, but Eijun would settle for three-to-one.

Anything not to farm Oblivion Tunnels. Even though it was originally his idea, he dreaded the thought just as much as everyone else.  

Fortunately, group two snagged the final win, by quite a wide margin, too. Eijun supposed they had Miyuki to thank, as even with the extra mobs in the fourth segment, he continued to pull them all to the gate, where he actively participated more in taking the enemies down as opposed to defending. This allowed them to dispose of the pack of wolves swiftly, as well as the two snow golems that had been stationed in front of the last gate.

Eijun did try to cast a few heals from Rejuvenation since Miyuki ended up taking quite a few hits. Even if it didn't do much, he hoped it helped a little to negate some of the damage he received.

Miyuki was still required to pull out a potion as they continued on. Though to be fair, he had to have been swarmed by at least fifty or so creatures, it made sense he would need to replenish his health after all of that.

The path was supposed to lead them to a fork that would reunite them with group one. From there, they could progress through the rest of the raid together.

As soon as the other group came into view from behind some large, jagged rocks, Kuramochi openly laughed, "Happy farming!" Which earned him a few glares, choice words, and/or middle fingers.  

Yuuki was wholly unbothered, and poor Yui appeared rather frazzled, but otherwise unharmed. Eijun wouldn't be surprised if Azuma and Isashiki attempted to rush them through, which Yuuki wouldn't have allowed even at the cost of losing. Especially not when they had a novice tank; someone they were supposed to be showing the ropes to, just in case the worst were to happen, and Miyuki was unable to participate in future raids. Ever since Chris' major injury, they haven't had a backup tank available. Or, so Eijun had been told. Apparently, the vetting process Seido executed for new tank recruits was drastically more stringent compared to the other classes.

Eijun peered up the snow-covered submit; wonderment and anticipation warred within him, the new norm now whenever they begin a raid. While the mountain itself was aesthetically beautiful, with its snow-covered caps, and especially the intricately designed castle that was built into the side. The arching pathways leading to said castle, however, were rather daunting. While most mountains had their fair share of danger, what with the chance of avalanches or rock slides; this one, in particular, was much more perilous if one considered what all lurked upon the paths. 

The portal for Shogun's Keep let them out, not quite at the bottom of the mountain, but on a smaller plateau that was leveled off before the real climb would begin. While they won't need any equipment to scale it thanks to the two branched-off pathways that bordered around a deep, crystallized chasm. The edge of each path was dotted with plinths —roughly as tall as Eijun— where clawed braziers rested atop, the flames flickered whenever a particularly fluffy snowflake was unfortunate enough to drift lazily into the heat. The snowfall had been mild, yet consistent; and thankfully, it didn't obscure their vision. All it would take was one misstep to plummet down the gorge. Eijun wouldn't want to imagine what it would be like to maneuver through Shogun's Keep during a blizzard; that was if the weather actually ever changed. Some raids had cycling weather, while others were in a perpetual state of rain, shine, snow, or even night or day.

They wheeled Kazuya into a separate room, even though he could have walked, but apparently, according to protocol, that wasn’t allowed. They waited for a little over a week from his initial surgery to perform the endoscopy after they received his father's signature. During that time frame, they still treated it like an ulcer, which, unfortunately, limited his meager diet even more. Kazuya hadn’t been allowed citrus as they were too acidic, and even bananas had a level of acidity to them that he didn’t know about. So he got to watch as they gave Sawamura fruit cups for snacks as they worked to build them back up to regular portions again. Kazuya, unfortunately, would be stuck with some sort of off-white, watery mush that wasn’t quite oatmeal or porridge, and honestly, it reminded him of the gruel they were fed at the beginning of their stint in captivity. The hospital's version, at least, was bland in flavor, though he could do with some cinnamon or sugar. Even salt and pepper as the “meal” didn’t lean one way or the other between sweet or savory. Unfortunately, sodium was off the menu as well. 

Kazuya was beginning to forget what it was like to have taste buds.

“He’s here again,” Kuramochi says with a wry grin. 

Kazuya glances at him out of the corner of his eye, before returning his focus back to sliding his hands into the clear, disposable gloves, “Who?”

Kuramochi makes a sound of disbelief, “You know who,” he jerks his head towards the person in question, “Sawamura.” Kazuya slips the hair net over his head and turns. Sure enough, peeking out from the snack aisle is Sawamura. As soon as he realizes that he was seen –which, how can they not– he startles with a small yelp. A packet of peanuts sails through the air in his panic while he ducks back behind the shelf to hide. Kazuya chuckles as a hand darts out to grasp the fallen packet to drag it back and out of view.

After they cleared out the last of the demons, the pathway led them out of the village to a trail that winded between two narrow cliff faces. They were significantly closer to the vortex now, to the point that Kazuya could hear an insistent hum, similar to the noise emanating from portals, however, this was mixed with what sounded like a swarm of bees; inconsistent in volume. 

As usual, Kazuya leads the way, greatsword at the ready. They decided to take the trail at a slower pace, with its tight, confining walls forcing them in a near single-file line. Fighting here would be difficult if something were to ambush them. The most likely place would be from above, which had everyone on edge, peering up in hopes to catch sight of an enemy and taking away their element of surprise. They had Masuko take up the rear, as the next best in terms of defense, with Furuya and Sawamura safely sequestered in the middle. 

While the standard mob was rather easy to take down as a group, solo would be difficult; deadly even. It’s not impossible, but it would be incredibly stupid. A duo would be slightly better, a tank to distract and at least someone with a high damage output, though it would take a while just to kill one. Which made splitting up an option that was rarely considered, unless they were a skilled assassin tasked to scout ahead, like Kuramochi, otherwise it’s generally better to stay in a tight-knit group. Though there have been occasions where the party had to split in half to handle certain endeavors required in some raids, but never struck out solo. During those instances, they will divide each team into as equal in damage as possible. Kazuya and Masuko typically were never in the same team, as Masuko would play the tank role for one while Kazuya covered the other. It was times like those that having a secondary tank would be helpful, but Seido wasn’t one for being conventional. Hell, they don’t even run with a healer. 

They wind the last bend of the trail where the cliff faces widen to create a large, open area. There was nothing in it other than the same packed dirt with a loose dusting on top that gets kicked up with any sudden movement. The purple-hued fog was denser here as it settled low to the ground, which may obscure their vision if this were to be the boss’s arena, and Kazuya had a strong hunch that it was; seeing how there weren't any exits or branching pathways other than the one they just followed.

As soon as Kazuya stepped through the portal, he was slapped across the face with a horrid stench like that of rot and sewage. It had him scrunch up his nose in disgust and fight back the instant gag reflex it caused. He took in short, shallow breaths, unable to stomach a full lungful of the humid air. As the others stepped through the portal, Kazuya heard audible sounds of revulsion and complaints of the smell; even heard someone actually begin to retch from somewhere behind him. 

Once the red tint in his vision cleared and he was able to see again, he was met with an eerie, dense atmosphere and a thin veil of purple-hued fog. 

They had exited out onto a stone bridge that would lead them into a rundown, deserted village. Quite literally a ghost town, without a single soul in sight; but that didn’t mean it was empty. Wherever the demons were lurking, they were out of sight; watching and waiting for the unexpected to wander by. The main source of light afforded to them came from the full moon that hung high in the sky, when clouds didn’t block it, at least. It had been late morning when they arrived at the entrance to Shinkai Ruins, which suggested this realm lived in a permanent state of night. 

From his place in front of the group, Kazuya could only see the first few rows of cracked and crumbling buildings. The style of which appeared to be several eras behind with thin wooden walls and moss-covered shingles for roofs; many had caved in, taking down some walls along the way. The minimal foliage he could see was either some form of fungus, spindly bushes, or decaying trees; zero greenery in sight, which left the area drab with dark browns, grays, and a mysterious, dim purple glow that seemed to backlight everything.
