Professional life: Recreation is another part of the hospitality industry. The Walt Disney is moving towards more sustainable practices in their cruise ships, hotels,and parks. Some of their practices include renewable energy and getting rid of single use plastics. As a hospitality major student, I hope more theme parks become more environmentally friendly. Theme parks are constantly expanding in order to accommodate increasing demand.

Professional life: Seafood is consumed in every part of the hospitality industry. Many hotels and restaurants are located near oceans and lakes, which include their aquatic inhabitants. Sustainable seafood encompasses ethical and sustainable practices in correlation to the production and consumption of seafood. As a hospitality major student, food plays a crucial role in a guests’ experience. Sustainable seafood can keep seafood on the menu and in bodies of water.

Tourists’ goals are environmental conservation and wildlife observation in exotic and endangered places.There is growing demand of a unique experience with a purpose over a touristy place. As a hospitality major, I hope to see more initiatives in conserving the environment as climate change is an ongoing issue.

Professional life: As a hospitality major student, the farm-to-table is re-emerging in the restaurant industry. The hospitality industry especially restaurants are moving more towards this because more consumers are being conscious of the environment. Farm-to-table supports local farmers, and the connection between the restaurant and farmer is crucial. The idea of using seasonal and locally grown food is in ability I hope to achieve in my profession.

Personal life: Cleaning is a constant task that is needed throughout life. However, cleaning with chemicals is not environmentally friendly. The use of natural cleaning products is better for the environment, and it does not have that heavy chemical smell. It is using ingredients that are most likely already in your house.These tips are useful in cleaning multiple parts of house.  During this pandemic, I will use this tips for cleaning around my house.

Personal life: Adidas x Parley collaboration utilizes plastic bottles from the ocean into shoes and clothing. This initiative reduces the plastic from the ocean, and it is reused in another way. I will continue supporting brands such as Adidas and any other brands focusing on sustainability. I hope more and more brands move towards to sustainability.

Personal life: Clothes are often found in landfills. A way to upcycle an old pair of jeans is to embroider it. Embroidery in denim/ jeans can make them look like a different pair of jeans. I hope to embroider my jeans and other clothing items now and in the near future.

Personal life: Coffee is prevalent in many households, including my own household. Coffee and creamer are usually bought together, so the empty coffee creamer container is discarded. However, the household trick of reusing the coffee creamer into a snack container is simple way of reducing plastic waste. In the future, I will be putting my snacks into these type of containers.

Personal life: Lush Cosmetics values its naked packaging with the goal of reducing waste in landfills. Lush products such as the bubble bars can lead consumers to a simple switch. I would love to try these cleansing bars.

Personal life: Madewell designs their products with sustainability in mind. Madewell implemented a repair,reuse, and recycle programs for their jean. Madewell ‘s goal for the programs is to  increase longevity of the jeans and decrease landfills. I  would love to purchase their jeans due to their style and sustainability.

Personal life: In recent years, there is a decline in the bumble bee population. Bees are essential for pollinating our food. Gardening these plants can help sustain the bee population. I always wanted to try gardening and find some way to help bees.

Personal life: As a student, the idea of being sustainable can be daunting at times. These tips for students give easy and fairly cheap ways to be more sustainable. I will pay more attention to what kind of pen I’m using, and I will buy  refillable pens rather than a large pack. 

Being a student can be detrimental to the environment - one example being papers. As many learn, they come from trees, who are our friends by releasing oxygen. They’re a bit crucial, and case in point, the Amazon rainforest is called the “Earth’s lungs”; however, it is a major site for deforestation. In addition, many highly concentrated areas combat overpopulation with planting trees. By reading these tips, you can learn how to easily change habits in favor of our planet - some of which you may already be using without knowing!

1. Ecosia Eco-what? As students, the majority of us rely on Google for resources and answering questions we have on assignments. However, by switching over to the search engine Ecosia, you can plant a tree every 45 searches! As trees release oxygen, they’re vital for life and fighting climate change. The browser is completely free, so at no cost but searching, you can make the world a better place. The German-based company goal is to plant 1 billion trees by 2020 - so why not help out?

2. Forest Ah yes, the infamous app that gets you to focus. The essantial principle is to stay off your phone by setting a timer; if you leave the app during that duration, your tree will wilt and die ): While you can plant pixelized trees for free, buying membership at the low cost of $2 will allow you to save up the points earned in staying off your phone and actually plant a tree - with no limit. They’re actually working on allowing you to keep track of the trees you planted, so stay tuned for that! By being productive and not on your phone, you can plant a tree - how wonderful is that?

3. Stationery As Japanese stationery is the most beloved in this community (for good reason), many are using, perhaps unsuspectinging, utensils which happen to be friendly to the environment; this is due to recycling being a much greater deal in Japan. This extends from Pilot Juice pens, Pilot Fruxion highlighters, Pentel Energel, Muji, and more!

5. Water Bottles Do you know how long it takes to biodegrade one plastic water bottle? Approximately 450 years - or even 1,000. Staying hydrated for a student is crucial for concentration, retaining information and brain functions, as our brain is made up of 90% water. Reusable water bottles will ensure that you stay hydrated and not be thrown out. Water fountains are practically everywhere, and stations to specifically fill up water bottles have been popping up at an increasing rate. And hey, it doesn’t hurt if you want to show off a cute bottle or your personality. Save money and the planet, invest in a resusable water bottle.

Personal life: There is such a large dependence on plastic, especially when storing food. Plastic is constant presence in landfills, oceans, and other outside areas. As a way of lessening plastic in these places, food can be stored in more sustainable ways. They can preserve food for a longer time.
