Thread for @aldersheep (and anyone else who may find it useful) about the correct construction of your alternative body. I'm doodling this freehand while I sip my tea so please excuse the very messy sketch, I'm not much of an artist.

Starting with the main source of confusion; your fingers. Those patterns on the bottom of each knuckle are exposed joints. For reference (and familiarity with my own mechanisms) we'll be using a ball-style joint, but you may just as easily see a series of ligaments with other types of joint.

The "eye" shape is actually the tolerance gap for your joint. Sticking straight out, the rim of the top sides of both segments should be flush, as that's their max rotation. When the finger is fully bent, the rims of the opposite side should touch.

You can imagine this just by looking at your finger. When you bend your finger as much as a single joint can, two spots of skin are now touching that are farthest away when the finger is extended. Those spots should be the top and bottom of the "eye" shape.

The line in the "eye" is the joint channel, it's the part of the ball that the finger plugs into and can bend along. It should be straight with the finger, in the middle of the joint, and go up to the middle of the "eye."
