So my darkharvest00 theory is that Chris and Heather will find Alex, but in the at least 2ish years Alex has been held in the order, he will have been...changed.
I don't think he's been brainwashed, i don't think he'll be an antagonist.
i think they will have done to him what happened to Marc McComber/Kind von der Ritter.
There is implication that kind von der ritter and marc McComber are one in the same. Marc McComber is confirmed as an ex member of the order, he was the oracle, and had "predicted" things for the order and fed them information.
Kind von der Ritter is confirmed to have been human at one point, but no longer is. I don't believe we have any confirmation as to exactly what happened, but there's implication that it happened within the order. He is described as being able to "hear the past and see the future" and change the flow of time around him. I want to believe that it was exposure to Gorr'Rylaehotep that caused this change. This is because when we see him, he is a faceless man, wearing old man pj like robes and the way he disorts the camera in similar manners to the monster. He also refers to it as a monster and something happened that changed his role/opinion on the order.
For the rest of this theory, I'm operating under the assumption that Marc McComber = Kind von der Ritter, and I will refer to Gorr'Rylaehotep as Slenderman, for my sake. That caused this change. This is because when we see him, he is a faceless man, wearing old man pj like robes, and he is trying to help both Chris and Alex.
We don't really know what The Order is doing to Alex other than they for some reason need him alive.
McComber had a book, one which Chris gets his hands on. In the book it has a lot of details, such as the implications that there are multiple slenderman, and that he has been around or traveled through a very long time, but it brings up something else.
The Priest, The Lamb, and The Slave. The Order needs all three.
The Priest is described as "the first", the one who once spoke the word of "the Master" (Slenderman), they speak only the truth. This I think is representative of Heather. She was originally apart of the Order, and throughout the series she is shown to constantly tell the truth, tell the guys the information they need, and when she no longer agrees with the order she leaves. She is the pinnacle of information that continues to keep giving.
The Lamb is described as "the first to see our master when cycles begin anew", which is Chris. Chris first saw Slenderman, he was the first to interact with the order, albeit unintentional. This is because his home was once McComber's. [The worrying thing about this is the entry speaks of how the lamb must be sacrificed for the priest to do their work, and that if/when the lamb dies humanity will be reborn].
That leaves The Slave. The slave is described as "part of the master", they can sense Slenderman when others cant, hear it when others cant. This is Alex. Alex time and time again would get nosebleeds, pass out, and wonder off at random only to lead everyone to the Slenderman. He does it unintentionally, he's affected more than anyone, and there are numerous times where Chris is even concerned because Alex is affected by things no one else is, even to the point of being almost vegetative. The Slave is also described as being the eyes for Slenderman to see, they will do his work but ALWAYS be disobedient, as human kind is. They are an unwilling servant, and is described as the most important keystone.
I believe that these three are being kept alive because in this new "cycle", they are what the order thinks will bring about humanity's rebirth, their godhood, etc etc. Cult things.
I think there was an attempt before, where McComber, the oracle, was once The Slave, working for the order to see for their "god" . Slenderman, and help them do their bidding, that is what he did, but as described he was disobedient, and he escaped. He has nonstop been traveling and warping time to find the next cycle to help stop the order.
It has been a long time without, and I think they have captured Alex to force him into his purpose. They need all three members, but at any given time they have only been able to capture two. Heather and Alex, and then Chris and Alex. Now they only have Alex. I think they're forcing Alex to try and travel through time, much like McComber. I believe they're doing this by exposing him directly to the Slenderman over and over. I think, towards the last several entries, we have actually seen this.
Chris has seen Alex several times, times that he believes are hallucinations. He sees him when he's off the grid camping, and then he sees him again during the attempted/failed rescue mission. The former was right before Chris was ambushed, and it gave him enough warning to escape. The latter once again also seemed to save him from capture, as Chris was directly pulled into the past, acting as an observer, long enough to be kept safe (and be given a clue).
I think, disobedient, Alex is traveling through blips in time to try and keep Chris safe, and try to help/lead him in the correct direction. I think those weren't hallucinations, but really Alex, appearing at random with camera distortions just like McComber.

top 10 gayest marble hornets moments was the bit where tim was bent over behind his couch and jay zoomed in on his thighs so he could see the imprint of a tape in tim's pocket
(edit: everyone in the reblogs saying they didn't even notice the tape Really just adds to my point that this was UNNECESSARILY gay)

the buzz of near constant static had silenced instantly, and there was a loud crack, a thud and clang of metal and bone against concrete, and a sickening noise that he was sure he would never forget.
he was saving him, that much he had convinced himself of.
because… if he wasn’t saving him, them, then what was this for?
